I think it's a cute song and I like it.

It was also PJ's biggest hit. #2 on the charts sometime during the summer of 1999.

Discuss.

I love this song.. Without this song.. I may have never heard Pearl Jam.. who knows.. But because of this song, I am a fan.

Its simple & fun, catchy and you can easily sing-a-long.. great song!

absolutely LOVED it when it first came out.... 8,000 radio plays later..... mehhhhhhhh....

it is awesome that it was/is their biggest selling single,, and the money went to a great cause.
  • I was 16 at the time, taking behind the wheel drivers ed. The meathead, assistant football coach, asshole, that was the instructor turned it up every time it came on the crappy pop station he made us listen to. I remember thinking it was ironic that he was cranking a song about a fatal car crash while teaching drivers ed. ;)
  • imo it is horrid.

Soldier of Love is a much better rendition of an old sappy love song.

i hated Last Kiss way back when, you know, the original.

that being said, good that it mighta turned on some new fans. so..

    Hear Hear.
    WOOT!
  • I love this song. I used to sing it at camp when I was a kid and was so excited the first time I heard the PJ rendition. Who would ever imagine their favourite band covering one of their favourite songs from when they were a kid. I still remember exactly where I was the first time I heard it, on the gardiner expressway in toronto stuck in traffic going to a jays game. There are many more PJ songs I like better than this one but I definitely have a soft spot for it.

  • I thought the original was awful and I feel no different about PJ's version. The fact that it became the most well-known PJ song is very unfortunate.

Not nearly half as good as everyone makes it out to be, the one song I fear seeing live

I don't hate it unless it's played at a show that I attend. Ugh!

Of the 24-27 songs we usually get, it's a giant bummer to hear Last Kiss played.

I agree that Soldier of Love is a much better song. Last Kiss is ok but it is more than likely my least favorite song by the band.

Liked it when I got it as a holiday single... now hate it live. The only Pearl Jam song I don't like... piss/drink break song so you can enjoy the encore and YLB fully.
  • other than black its one of the first songs id heard from pearl jam and its when i really started to take interest in eddies voice.i still like it,besides i heard it at the casino last night and hit for $100 as soon as the song started

I liked it when it came out and I still do. I think the story of the song makes it so much better, and I wish more people knew it, and that things like that happened more often. Remember, this was a song only available on vinyl to fan club members, and I believe it was a radio station in Boston that started playing it, and it just kept growing, and for a long time of it being popular, I don't think Pearl Jam even provided radio stations with a non-vinyl ripped version. I mean, how often does something like that happen in pop music? Never. The DJs just play the singles they get from the record company in the mail and that's it, rarely do they seek a new song out, or find something they enjoy and share it with their fans, let alone turning a song that took around $1000-$2000 to record one take of in to the #2 song in the country. This is an example of a song getting huge on it's own right, and I think that is something to be proud of. Just my two cents.
words seem so out of place.

I think we'd all like it more if it was only released as a Christmas single and not commerically.

Always ALWAYS hate when the band plays this.. Cheezy piece of crap song.. However, I actually kinda enjoy ed doing it solo.. Heard it as a pre-set a couple times, and he rocked it out in Memphis last week.. So I guess it makes for a fun campfire singalong, but wastes precious time in a Pearl Jam show that could be better spent playing In My Tree, Low Light, or Faithful ;)

I love it. It's very un-Pearl Jam so I can understand why a lot of people don't care for it live, but I really enjoy it.

no thank you, and live as soon as they turn around to play to the back, i know that dreadful song is coming...
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Heard it for the first time in Knoxville in .... 98 ? Loved it !

was super pumped when they released it.

My band covered it. Made me sick of it.

    My GF loves it still.

I think I'm indifferent to it now. ( was cool to hear it solo in Memphis though )

BTW, i dont know how people can be sick of any PJ song, but then say they love YLB !

I could do without hearing YLB close 95% of the shows myself, but thats just me.
    Peace, Love.
