I knew there was more to their stay at the KOL house last year. Ed brought it up in Columbia last year and just bragged that he drank the most. Glad to hear the rest of the story!

Lilly and I had the time of our lives the last two nights. I am grateful for the love and respect he showed my daughter. He did spend some personal time with her, as well. She has been studying art half her life (all ten years of it) and drew him a beautiful picture. He is a kind, gentle, funny, and a totally normal guy. What a great gift he has given her (and me).

Congrats! Lilly was one of the hits of both nights. I thought it was awesome that he got your daughter up on stage during Hard Sun and let her sing too. You could tell she was super excited. lol I've never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I can only imagine he is very personable and I'm glad both of you got to have a once in a lifetime experience. We were sitting right behind the lady that tried to take credit for being Lilly's mom on night one. lol I'm glad he got to find the REAL Lilly. I know it'll be a night she, or you, will never forget.

Yes this was an awesome show! The crowd was very respectful. Eddie was in a great mood!

It was funny because there was a fight next to me, up in the balcony, Someone was being a douche I guess. But anyway, security was in the process of kicking the guy(s) out, when Eddie was telling his story about stealing a chord book from church. And he says "If someone next to you is talking, just hit them." And everyone around us was clapping extra enthusiastically!

Then not much later, security came back to actually throw the douche bag(s) out of the venue.

It said "Life is nothing but a dream."

I had a weird experience this night, compared to the first Ryman show (where I was in fan club seats). At this show, I was further back, and surrounded by "casual" fans -- people who'd never been to a PJ show, or who hadn't been since "Vs." came out. So, when Ed would talk or play unfamiliar songs (which for them, was most of the songs), they would scoot past us out of the pews -- like 20 times during the show! -- and would make comments like, "Concert, Eddie. Shut up!" I thought it was funny that Eddie said at one point that if you spent the money on these tickets, then you know him well enough to know it's futile to shout because he hates authority, that he will rebel against it, and that he can't help it because his daughter's the same way. Well, it seems a lot of the people at these shows DON'T know Eddie that well, or at least were expecting an entirely different show, because in all the concerts I've ever seen (for any artist), I've never seen quite this high a ratio of d-bags in the audience. The guys next to me were so upset, because they were really big fans, and they couldn't understand why everyone was being so bitchy and inattentive, wandering to and from their seats and chit-chatting during the songs. I'm pretty sure the d-bags here are so elsewhere in life, and I'm just sorry that so many of them decided they needed to hang out at the Ryman the past two nights.

On a good note, he played "I Am Mine," which is so lovely, and I've realized that I love his live version of "No Ceiling" better than the recorded one -- a bit faster and a bit more passionate (less pensive, maybe?).

Here's to hoping the gorgeous, historic Orpheum brings out the best in Eddie AND the crowd. . .

That really sucks for the real fans. Those guys deserve 10c seats where they can enjoy themselves as well as Eddie without having to fight off douche bags during the set.

I didn’t think he could top night 1 but he did! My mom and I came from Denver to see the shows and left soooo happy. Nashville and the Ryman were beautiful!

We got 10c seats night 1 and TM single seats for night 2. We were in the balcony. She let me take the center seat (row K) and she took the side (row L). There were couples next to me and in front of me and I could tell they weren’t the hardcore fans but because they left before the first encore! I happy to not have any really drunk and annoying people around me though. The best was that right next to me was a guy, Brian, there with his friends and they had 10c tix the first night too and all TM singles on 6/18. It was nice to have a “die-hard” fan to enjoy the show with. He wanted to hear North Country and I wanted to hear I Am Mine and we got both right away!!!

The house lights came on every time the crowd sang and it was quite a different experience in the balcony than on the floor. I liked it. You could see everything from that perspective and the backgrounds stood out a lot more and had a better effect than on the floor. I also like how it was angled so no one was in my way (unlike the main floor).

I’ll touch on some stories and highlights that might have not been mentioned yet. Eddie said he gave us permission to hit the person next to us if they yelled out. If we got arrested he would come down and play a benefit for us. After that some dumb girl yelled “I love you” and he said “See, someone hit her!” It was funny how a guy right after that yelled “I got her!”

Before Deadman he said he had some good news. He just found out that he gets to see his friend Damien Echols in a few days and they would actually get some contact time. He explained after about 10 years it would be the first time without the glass between them and said there was info about him in the programs. Then he said, “Not to make light of a serious situation but this doesn’t mean we are going to hold hands.” Everyone laughed. Then he said after a while they might hold hands because it was such a heavy situation. He said he was going to play a song he wrote for a movie directed by a friend. It was about a guy also on death row only it’s different because this guy was actually guilty. About half of the crowd clapped.

After Rise he talked again about his little mandolin being so excited at the Ryman. He said he talked about it last night how he looked at other mandolins at the famous guitar shop next door and they sounded better. He said “I had my hands all over those mandolins” which got a big laugh. Then he said he was surprised mandolins were so expensive so he’ll stay with his “cheap date” for now.

The KOL story previously explained had me crying because I was laughing so hard! I’m going to see them at Red Rocks in August and I don’t think I’ll be able to take my eyes off their “pointy shoes and tight pants” now.

Also the line after You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away was classic. “It’s not every day that you play the Ryman and get your beard stuck in your harmonica holder.”

The End and Arc were touching yet again. I loved how the lights go black during Arc.

Both nights were so amazing and my mom and I were so happy we didn’t regret spending a lot of $$ and time coming from Denver. Thanks to Eddie, 10c and all the fans for making the shows so special.

Also, to the guy we stood behind to get in on the second night at the side entrance: Thanks so much for the tip to get a wallet. He told us some of the wallets had picks in them that were authentically signed. His said Eddie and his friend’s said Ed. On a gamble I bought a wallet and sure enough the pick says EV. I was floored so thanks!!!
If I had known then what I know now...
  • Was definitely a great show again tonight. I feel so lucky to have seen Ed both nights and meet so many cool people. Some I remember names, others just where they were from.

When I first got my tickets and saw Row A I about lost it until I saw it was balcony. I was a bit concerned about it until I got up there and saw just how nice the seats were. Not to mention our whole row just seemed to have a good time. We drove 2 hours to get there and to be seated right next to someone who lives 15 minutes away was just crazy. It was kind of odd because her ticket was a 10 club but it was split from the other ticket. One of their tickets was floor in the back and one in balcony. I really hope this is a oversight on 10C part because splitting up people at the show is not something that should be routine.

    Some highlights from night 2:
Ed saying to punch the people yelling and if you get in trouble he would throw a benefit concert on your behalf!
    I'm Open!!!!
Lily getting on stage for Hard Sun, Ed is such a class act. I am sure she will remember these past two nights forever.
Society with Jerry is just so sweet. Makes the song hit home for me.
Liam rocking out the drum guitar! They had two drum skins form night 1 at the merch table that he had autographed for $50 bucks but they were gone in like 10 minutes.

Hold the phone! Bud I thought your big hight light would of been meeting me the guy from Toledo, Who knows all to well about Oak Harbor and Fremont Ohio? Just kidding, it was great to share the row with you.

  • Man of the Hour was absolutely perfect. And it's hard to believe that the version of Arc from the night before could have been beat, but it was on the 2nd night. All the guys in the roll were cool, none were yellers! Which was a plus. I'd like to thank Satans Red Mosquito for taking my extra ticket and also for the tips on where to park etc... It was great to meet you also. Keep in touch on the next big tour. We will have to meet up again!

and again the Ryman is absolutely perfect. it was a complete honor to see two shows there.

The show was amazing. Apologies in advance for a LONG post. It's my first. Came from Indy with a fellow Ten Club member (and best friend) - he was selected for seats and I was denied - good to have two chances! Got to Ryman early to pick up our tix and FINALLY - we got 11th row. Our first show together was 98 Deer Creek, my first ever was Soldier Field 95 - but this is our first hook-up from Ten Club, and it's special to be so close. Most everything's been said, but I'll add that Wynonna Judd and her "crew" was sitting behind us and they all went backstage after the show. They seemed nice. I was half expecting a local Nashville artist to join Ed onstage, but understand why that's a difficult thing. The set list, as at all shows I've attended, is always much different to experience than to simply read. It seemed to flow perfectly, though at times the crowd was ready to rock and Ed seemed to intentionally calm things down. It's my first solo show, and the vibe is much different than at a PJ show. Very personal, very chill, very authentic. I'm glad he's doing this solo tour b/c my friends in Cali saw the Berkley shows and were blown away. I never thought I'd get the chance - and I have to think this might be the last of the solo gigs (at least for some time). Hard to tell with Eddie, but with the new PJ album ready to drop it seems that this period may be coming to an end and that his focus would be shifting back to where it's been the past 20 years. So...if anyone out there is debating on whether or not to make the effort to hit one of the remaining shows, I'd strongly advise you to make it happen.

Back to the show - the employees at the Ryman were so nice and most of them had been there for years, some for decades. They offered stories of the history of the place and were genuine. The Security guys were not. It's disturbing to me to see these guys pacing all over the place and taking things so seriously - especially at such a chill show. I saw nothing but cordial fans, but apparently there were some exceptions to this. Still, these guys should get a grip. The Ryman is simply amazing, and if there's ever a chance to see a favorite artist at this venue, check it out. It's like no other auditorium I've ever been in - very special. And it drips with history.

About the music - Brain Damage was great; never thought I'd hear Eddie sing Floyd and he turned it into his own (notice he wrote Lunatic on his calligraphy set list) and Sometimes was stunning. The audience joined in and it seemed for a moment like it was a church gospel. I'm Open was a treat. Hide Your Love Away is always great at the PJ shows, but the solo version was softer and seemed refreshingly raw. The story leading into Lukin was great - and to hear that version of Lukin was so cool. Actually, Lukin was the one song I'd told my friends that I'd hoped we get prior to the show. (after seeing the Cornice DVD the accoustic version just seems to fit). Porch never gets old and he nailed it. Throw Your Arms Around Me - did anyone else notice that Eddie seemed to be ready to sing the first verse and Liam just barely beat him to it? Eddie backed off and let him take it, but I'm not so sure that Eddie thought he was going to open the song. I love that tune and hope it makes it's way into the PJ setlists. Hard Sun was a great way to bring it home - even though it's the same finale each night. But being there, it's fitting. To me, you don't have to have a different closer each night on a tour like this b/c Hard Sun is the fitting bookend. And it was hysterical to me to see Eddie kick the mic stand right in front of Lilly. Just as the song came to it's close, it was like Eddie (now rocking the electric guitar) had a burst of energy that he simply couldn't contain and without thinking he just did what came natural and laid into that damn stand. Funny stuff, and classic.

After all these years, going from a twentysomething Crazy Eddie to a proud father in his 40's, he's still rocking - but now he's finding inspiration in fatherhood. It's perhaps a bit deep, but it seems to me that we get alot more stories and insight from Ed now that he's a papa, and that he has a much better appreciation for sharing. At the Tampa show he pointed out a father and daughter wanted to know her name, and he clearly is intrigued by the kids attending shows with their parents. It's good stuff, and I'm glad we get to hear more from Ed and we're gaining some insight to his world.

Being at this show, one thing stood out to me more than anything: he puts himself out there all alone, he's vulnerable, he's on his own. Just him and some mandolins and guitars. It's personal, he's engaging, he's funny at times, and at all times he takes it very, very seriously. He doesn't want anyone polluting the experience he's worked so hard to create by shouting or standing, and he wants the show to run his way. Which, to me, is just fine. I will say, however, that the "real fans" should try to understand that we are all, in essence, "real fans", and that PJ has been a tough act to catch on the road for alot of people. The "rules" are foreign to many and everyone pays the same $ to see Eddie, and it should be no surprise that some fans are caught off guard when one of the hardest rocking frontmen of all time just takes a seat and tones it down.

Nashville - your town is great, thanks to all who made us feel welcomed.

Speaking of rocking, can't wait for Chicago - and for some additional shows to be announced?!!

Happy Fathers Day to all - I'm sure Eddie will enjoy having that day off.

Eddie told how that the night before there was a sign-language signer at the side of the stage and that she did an amazing job at literally signing everything he said and sang. Can't remember the exact description Eddie gave, but that was basics - and then he said he was disappointed that she wasn't "here tonight because I'd love to see her try and sign this one..." and then he just ripped into Lukin. It was an intense version, as always...

  • My first post on this board, saved it for a special occasion!

This was my second time seeing Eddie, last time was last August the first night in D.C.
Eddie is amazing, no doubt, it was worth the 8 hour drive from Ohio. The Ryman is a beautiful venue too, it just added to the whole experience. My favorite song was hearing the new song, it is freaking gorgeous, and Arc is always amazing to hear. Plus you can't beat the story time chats between songs and Eddie's unending wit when dealing with the drunken fools. I didn't get to meet him, though I did in D.C. so it is okay. Seems like the shows this tour are a bit shorter than last years, but just any chance to see Eddie, even just one song, is an unequaled pleasure! I wish I coulda seen him more this tour (like my brother who got to go to both nights in Baltimore :( ), I'm still in awe four days later, and these shows are something I'll treasure for the rest of my life. He needs to come play the Civic Theatre in Akron like Tom Waits did a few years back!

Anyway, an Eddie show is the best thing I've ever experienced in my life, and that about sums up anything I could say in a review.

Oh and I was one row back and across the section from those three guys who got kicked out for being drunken jerks threatening people and security, and I was glad when that happened. They deserved it.

Amazing show at the Ryman. I am glad I was able to make the trip from Austin, TX to catch the show. Thanks to Ed and 10C for making the evening a memorable one. Does anyone know if a recording from the evenings performance will be made available "a la Bootleg?"

The show was just beautiful. Such a great time we had in Nashville. Even though the seats that we had for this show were a bit futher back than for Night 1, and we got REALLY lucky with Row B for the Memphis show, this night was my favorite of the three.
Wynonna Judd was sitting 2 rows in front of us, and was really getting into Arc, and my husband said he saw her wipe her eyes when it was over, and I'm sure she was not the only one. It is such a powerful performance to witness, and so very cool!
I won't bitch about the dipshit in front of us that felt the need to yell "Eddieeeeeeee" after every song that he played. Oh wait.....I just did, but really it was mostly pretty tame compared to the shows last Spring.

    Thanks for the tickets Scott!

  • wow! what a show. so we got to see fleetwood mac the night after ed and its just amazing that one man can do a more intense show than a legendary rock band thats been around for over forty years. not taking anything from the mac because they really still rock pretty hard. but ed just has that special something that makes for an incredible show!!

    Anyone have Liam Finn's setlist?????

Liam played a lot of new songs. So the only one's that I recognized were Better to Be as the opener, Wise Man towards the end, and Lead Balloon at the end of his set. He did this cool thing with an experimental drum guitar that he looped and drummed along with it. It was pretty cool. I have a review of this show that I am working on, it is just taking a while, just btw...

Never too late to say a little bit about the show.. maybe now it's all finally sunk in. I had such an amazing time in Nashville and can't even BEGIN to shout out to all the new friends I met down there. There may have been some shenanigans on Broadway after the shows. :) I do have to call out ComeToTX though for the AMAZING 10C seat... the Ryman is like magic.. the only place where a third row ticket actually equals a front row seat which allows me to have my elbows on the stage directly below Ed's mic during Hard Sun. Choking on the smoke from the smoke machine was TOTALLY worth it.

I think I'm going to sum up both Nashville shows at the same time because they're all blending together into one magical experience. I had a blast relaying for you all the first night and was so happy to just live it up in the front the second night.
First of all.. the setlists from the Ryman in calligraphy are beautiful. (Holy calligraphy! )
The Ryman is beautiful. I am so lucky to have seen a show (two shows!) there. You could tell Ed was loving it...and his "are you here dear God" pleas during Sometimes seemed to be so in earnest.
Also, I am loving the Brain Damage into...
I loved Ed's stories about his mandolin... the little mandolin that was so happy it got to play at the Ryman. Cute. :)
Arc from night one was the most beautiful version I have ever heard.
Meeting Jerry Hannan at Tootsie's after the first show was pretty cool. He just seemed to be living it up and enjoying every second of being on tour with Ed. I asked him if he would be back the next night and he said "Of course! Will you?" He was totally content to chat with all of us and was super friendly.
I can't believe I got to hear "Throw Your Arms Around Me" three times in Tennessee... :D:D
EJ OWNS Golden State. That woman...my goodness. If I ever fall in love again, I want it to be exactly like that song.
Hearing "The End" was quite the treat... I'm excited to hear the version on the album and wish I would have stuck around to listen to those strings at the end...
Hard Sun.. enough said. I'm never sad about a show ending because you can't help but be happy every time you hear that song... and elbows on the stage doesn't hurt either.

I'm forgetting everything... loved it loved it loved it.
