No, it's a new song by Ed (or so everyone thinks). It's definitely not the Doors song.

This song is absolutely beautiful. It was one of the best songs of the night and then to be followed by the best version of Arc I've heard. It was an incredible night. I wasn't sure if Eddie could top night 1 but he delivered. Thank you 10C too for another set of great seats for this show.

These were two of the best shows I've ever seen and Eddie was born to play at the Ryman. He followed in some pretty big footsteps in that building and he belongs right up there with the best of them (as if we had any doubt!). He was simply amazing toinght again! And one of the highlights was when he was finishing up Drifting, he stopped all of sudden and said he got messed up and then caught himself and finished and delivered the line of the year " You haven't lived until you've played the Ryman and had your beard caught in your harmonica" LOL Thank you Eddie for a great two nights and beautiful music, great stories and unbelievable memories. Please come back soon!

what a wonderful couple of evenings with Eddie at the Ryman.... still kinda taking it all in. will come back with conclusions later on.... but I can't get Arc out of my head now..... I never cared much for it on the album, but the way he's been doing it live is epic. it didn't even hit me until after it was over just how great it was.
  • Was definitely a great show again tonight. I feel so lucky to have seen Ed both nights and meet so many cool people. Some I remember names, others just where they were from.

When I first got my tickets and saw Row A I about lost it until I saw it was balcony. I was a bit concerned about it until I got up there and saw just how nice the seats were. Not to mention our whole row just seemed to have a good time. We drove 2 hours to get there and to be seated right next to someone who lives 15 minutes away was just crazy. It was kind of odd because her ticket was a 10 club but it was split from the other ticket. One of their tickets was floor in the back and one in balcony. I really hope this is a oversight on 10C part because splitting up people at the show is not something that should be routine.

    Some highlights from night 2:
Ed saying to punch the people yelling and if you get in trouble he would throw a benefit concert on your behalf!
    I'm Open!!!!
Lily getting on stage for Hard Sun, Ed is such a class act. I am sure she will remember these past two nights forever.
Society with Jerry is just so sweet. Makes the song hit home for me.
Liam rocking out the drum guitar! They had two drum skins form night 1 at the merch table that he had autographed for $50 bucks but they were gone in like 10 minutes.

I thought that was just a font that Ed and BK came up with for the Into the Wild vinyl. Did he hand write that list? OR did he type it an print them. If its written he must have lots of free time on this tour.

great show, he set the bar incredibly high 2 nights ago though. Glad he opened with something other than Cow too. Lots of great stories. the stealing the of the chord book from the church in san diego and the kings of leon story about last year after bonnaroo gots lots of laughs too. Quite a bit of Uncle Eddie the past 2 nights, that's what makes these small, intimate shows extra special to me. Said to the people in the front row that he'd never had anyone sit that close to him at a show. Very awesome experience.

got to take my 11-year old son to his first show last night and man what a show. i spoke with the folks next to us and told them that he probably wouldn't be able to appreciate the experience until sometime in the future due to the venue and quality of the artists last night. liam finn was amazing and ed navigated the show with such strength, grace and incredibly funny commentary. mission accomplished with my son who was indoctrinated into the wonderful world of rock and roll, albeit, in a much more subtle venue. we drove from birmingham to catch the show after a full day of work and sports. i assumed he would sleep the entire 3 1/2 hr trek back home as we listened to 2-3 bootlegs from former shows. he was bright-eyed the entire time like a deer in headlights. and to listen to his responses when he heard a song that was played excited me to the point of stopping the car, hugging him and giving him a big kiss on the cheek. with the negative connotations and commercial mess that he is exposed to with industry and peers today, i saw the first gleam in the eye about real music and its possible influence in his life.
i think liam might have just influenced a young one with his uncharacteristic flailing drum style. he would say to me after liam established the loop on the vocals or guitar and made it over to the drums, "dad, his elbows look like they are about to come out of socket when he hits the drums." i responded, "as well they should buddy."
great show - thanks for an unforgettable experience and hopefully a roadmap to a future for a kid to explore his passions, visions and true will for his life. this night might just be the inception of something special with him. again, big thanks for the assistance in moving him in the right direction!

The KOL story was something like this..

He said after they played Roo last year they had a day off in nashville( If you remember the story in Columbia last year this fills in the missing pieces). He said they went out to KOL's property about 45 min away from town. They did a lot of things he said. Insinuating booze and drugs i assume. All of the girlfriends of KOL were tehre and even their mom. Ed smiled and laughed when he was mentioning their mom. SO he proceeds to say how hot it was out there and sure the guys were wearing white sleeveless T's and what not but they still wore their skinny jeans and pointed boots. He said i played basketball with them and the EVEN wore them then. He made another funny comment but it is hard to do it justice.

Then he said they asked him if he wanted to skeet shoot. He said sure but ive only fired a gun once in my life and that was to become a securty guard. Everyone laughed and he was like what cant believe i did that once?? He said he went from making 6 bucks to 8 an hour after shooting a gun once.

So he misses the first 3 clays. He is holding his accustic guitar like a gun during the story and says what a nice prop it is. He was trying to describe the "cartridges" but was having trouble. The next round he shoots the first clay and it explodes everywhere and everyone screams and yells for him. As they do this he turns around with his gun in hand to celebrate. He said everyone scattered .. dresses were flying up etc..

Another snippet from the night was when he said.. "i didn't think id ever have to say this but.. i'm having a bad hair day." he said it must have been a bad hair cut or all of the time he spent on the lake today.

so he said it is time for a mohawk again!

"The End" was probably the best song I've heard live in 37 shows. I hope Ed wrote that song, because it is just amazing. I love the classical guitar vibe.
  • for any of you that were sitting near the back around the middle section, I'm the unforntuate dude that bought a single ticket and got stuck next to four guys that got kicked out of the venue about mid-show. It all started as soon as Ed took the stage, these tipsy guys were yelping and whooing really loud. The also stood up during "Rise Up", which prompted security to ask them to sit. This request did not go well and they argued with the security for about a minute about it. During this, the guy who was sitting directly in front of them turned and told them that he had bought a tickets to the show as well, and that he would like to enjoy it. These guys were the kind of the type that go out together and look for fights. The ass kicking threats started flying and finally security was notified of the problem. They first came and got one guy only. Then his buddies continued to threaten the guy, because he told on them. So, they were not far behind. I spoke with these guys before the show and this was the first PJ or Ed show. They bought tickets off of ebay for $110 each. I'll bet that was a long ride back to Louisville.

Other than this board, there is not primer for conduct for Ed's solo shows, but I for one think there should be.

As far as the shows went. . . .both were amazing experiences. . but I would have to give the edge to Night 2 on overall entertainment value. It may have the Kings of Leon story that put Night 2 over the top.

It disappoints me they didn't stick around to take in Roo. I know they had a day off before and after the Roo show, so I'm sure they got some time in, but I'd hoped they'd experience as much of the festival as possible.

Well I know it has been said here before.. THANK YOU 10 CLUB!!!! I arrived in Nashville at about 1 pm with high expectations. I was NOT dissapointed in any way. Nashville was a nice and clean city and I would go back there again. The Ryman is a beautiful place and I can see why Ed chose to play there. I picked up my tickets and OH MYGod.... Main floor dead center third row seats one and two. The sound was beautiful and I really enjoyed hearing the music and Ed's mood was pretty good. After a couple of over-excited female fans shouted out, Ed gave everyone permission to punch anyone yelling out, in the face. He even went as far as to say that they would play a benefit to get the puncher out of jail. He told a funny story about going to church in San Diego and stealing the chord book. He also told a story about hanging out with K.O.L. and skeet shooting at their place. He played with the focus and energy that has earned him the following that he has developed over his career. The lighting ,the background changes ,the ending with Liam and E.J. helping out on hard sun was awesome as well. Liam is a MONSTER on the drums!! Again THANK YOU 10CLUB!!!! I hope the show goes this well in Memphis. :D

Thats a good overview of the story. My favorite part was when Ed was describing/showing how he turned around with the gun pointed at everyone and he turned back around and said in the mic "pointy shoes and tight pants flew everywhere!" That part had me crying I was laughing so hard. He went on for a while about their "pointy shoes" and really tight pants they always wear.
If I had known then what I know now...

THANKS 10 CLUB, EV AND PJ!!! That was the best show I have ever seen. I sat dead center of stage main floor row Q. I noticed several cameras and mics mounted on the underside of the balcony. I hope he releases a cd or dvd of the event. The acoustics were unreal!! Could you imagine seeing Pearl Jam play there? I might make the trip back to see the Black Crows in Sept. Also I would like to thank the people from Alabama for the whiskey.
