To Good To be True -- All Access Passes to MSG Show

So - I answered a Craigslist ad for ALL ACCESS VIP passed to the 5/21 PJ show at MSG. Said Section 1/Row A and All Access VIP Passes for $300. Sounds too good to be true?

Impulsive as I am, I contact the guy and ask a bunch of questions. Seemed legit. Met with his messenger who delivered actual authentic looking VIP All Access Necklace passes with bar codes, seat assignments, pictures of the PJ band in all their glory.

So I paid the $300.

Then I returned to my office and skepticism got the best of me. I tried using a bar code scanner and guess what: Neither of the bar codes are actually scannable. Unless it is because they are behind plastic???? Also - The bar code pictures themselves (thick and thin black lines) match on both tickets even though the ticket numbers are completely different....

Has anyone had any exerpience with ALL ACCESS passes. Do they scan or type the digits in when entering venue? Am I f'd out of my money?

    mmm, the band are not in the habit of taking fans backstage, if anything it's only friends and family. Also as it's MSG there will be plenty people they know who'll already been given VIP access, think you've been bumped!

    Sounds like a burn. That asshole just made $300 off you and whoever else he sold those $0.0025 (meaning 1/4 of a cent to produce) passes to. Maybe check if the ad is still there. If it is, have a friend contact him, and when the meeting happens make him give you your $300 back. I'm not endorsing vigilante-ism. I'm endorsing kicking this guy's ass and getting your money back! :D

    Its probalby a scam - you should try getting a police report going as soon as you can so you have a chance of getting you're $$ back.

    There were listings for this a while back too. Since floor seats are going for well over $300 on stubhub, etc... theres no way anyone would sell backstage passes plus front row seats for $300. :(

    Someone posted this same auction from Craigslist about a month ago. I replied to that, but I was told I was "gloating" and being "smug" for mentioning my experience in this field in threads like these.

    At the risk of seeming "smug", since I have extensive experience in this area (up until 2000) hopefully I can give some insight.

    Backstage passes come in two typical categories. Stickies and Laminates.

    -Stickies are fabric stickers, and usually given to stage-hands and local crew.
    -Laminates are usually for tour personnel

    I have about 300 backstage passes from working concerts in arenas and theaters in the NYC area. None of them use barcodes. Granted, I stopped working shows in 2000... but even considering that, I believe no one is using barcodes even currently. In 2008 I was backstage for PJ at MSG, and my old friend was doing security at their dressing room corridor... and they had no scanner. Only thing different was a bomb-sniffing-dog, but that's about it.

    Can you PM me a good image of the front and back? I'll let you know if I think it's legit.

    At the moment, he has no idea you are unhappy. Until the event happens, he'll assume you know nothing.

    Firstly - If you paid him via paypal with a CREDIT CARD, then the CC should protect you. I've been scammed on ebay and on this forum a bunch of times, and since I only pay with my CC, I have not once lost money because their protections are that good. How did you pay?

    IF you're going to go after him, why not email him back and say "my friend now wants the same package... do you have another for the other MSG show?" He'll of course say "yes" and that will give you the opportunity to meet with them in person again, for you to handle things personally. If you let them know you are on to them, then there's no way you'll find them.

    ...but it boils down to how you paid...

    If I were you, I would keep doing Craig's list searches for All Access Passes since I'm sure this is not the last time the guy is running the scam. Then have a buddy set up a meeting and have the cops there.

    There were similar redundant craigslist posts before.

    I think if he posts that he wants the same package for the other MSG show then they'll meet with him, knowing he's paid before too.

    Ten Club just emailed me back and says "SCAM". If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is...

    I learned my lesson but I will contact police as I have cell phone numbers for him and messenger (which I am sure are pre-pays)... But you never know.

    I knew it was too good to be true but the idea of getting front row seats took hold of me. I did not even care so much about the ALL ACCESS aspect of it. I was just thinking how amazing it would be to rock out in the front row of one of these shows.

    I learned a lesson today. Paypal and or Credit Cards only in the future.

    Paypal using CC only. Paypal using your bank account is very risky.

    I've had PP side with me on a dispute, only to tell me that the fraudulent seller closed their account so they couldn't refund money. And that's where CC rules saved me... every time.

    Impulsive as I am, I contact the guy and ask a bunch of questions. Seemed legit. Met with his messenger who delivered actual authentic looking VIP All Access Necklace passes with bar codes, seat assignments, pictures of the PJ band in all their glory.

    So I paid the $300.

    Then I returned to my office and skepticism got the best of me. I tried using a bar code scanner and guess what: Neither of the bar codes are actually scannable. Unless it is because they are behind plastic???? Also - The bar code pictures themselves (thick and thin black lines) match on both tickets even though the ticket numbers are completely different....

    Has anyone had any exerpience with ALL ACCESS passes. Do they scan or type the digits in when entering venue? Am I f'd out of my money?
    Thoughts?
