Poster Raffles ?

Over the last few months I’ve read posts about people winning posters in raffles.  Who is running those?  The 10Club?  Is there a site I can go to and see what is being raffled?  Does the money go to selected charities?

Hey you’re probably hearing about the raffles that are on Facebook.  Most raffles aren’t for charitable donations, but @elwayvedder usually has a few OYR raffles running!

So, people operate their own raffles of their own posters for profit?

Yes. They figured out a way to skip eBay fees, get even more than market value, and seem like a hero in the process for th “opportunity “.

I thought operating raffles was illegal in most states and a federal offense. They’re considered “gambling” in most states. Some charity organizations can operate them with the appropriate license if I remember correctly.

How do people know they’re on the up and up.  Couldn’t someone just say they pulled someone’s name out of a hat and it’s their best friend?  Then they end up with the cash and get to keep the poster.

Any lawyers on on this site that could share their insight?

Almost all of them are based on powerball or live drawings so theres no real worry about them being rigged.

I'm not on FaceTard but I like the idea for fundraisers, I think it is great.

we've done them here on Lost Dogs to help charities and others in need. We've done them on Facebook as well to help OYR, GTL, and PJ fans and/or their families. There's one going on right now to help a PJ fan's family as he just left us way too early. There's info posted on it I believe on the Porch if anyone wants to help and participate

I think it's great to conduct them for charity.  Just seems odd they allow them for profit.
