How young are you? How old am I? Let's count the rings around my eyes.

I love that line (The Replacements, "I Will Dare")

Got me thinking about something a 30 year old (I mean middle young) said to me the other day that goes something like this:

Under 25, you are young
26 to 40  is middle young
41 to 50 is middle aged
51 to 62 is old middle aged
63 to 70 is young old
71 to 85 is old
86 and up is old old.

Sound about right?

Yep.  It does.  But then I’m also of the mind that age is just a number.

That too sounds like a line from a song.

I don’t know about a song, more of a saying/mantra. I’ve met 80-year olds who embodied youth through attitude and I’ve met 25-year olds who were weighed down and aged beyond their years.

Life experiences and attitude are everything when it comes to age.

    * oh, and genetics play a massive role as well!

    1) The Replacements were so damn good, it hurts.

    2) I have to say, "it depends." I think genetics plays a role, yes, but socioeconomic status also is a major factor. I live in an area where I've met many 65-70 year-olds who are super active and look and act much younger than their years, people in their 80s who I would have sworn were fifteen years younger. But I've also lived in places where 65 was "old," and being 65 meant being in poor health with limited mobility.

All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

    I'm 52

My life, by my calculations, is 62% done

    Where did my youth go?

At least I got to see a lot of cool bands in their prime

85 is not a bad goal, Joe, but now days 90 and up is not uncommon.  However many they may be, I hope they're good ones for you!

I find it puzzling that according to my drivers license, birth certificate, etc. I'm supposedly going to be 67 next month.  There has to be a mistake there somehow.  I mean, WTF, 67? No way.  It's a conspiracy!

Very weird how all of your government-issued documents represent you as older than you are!
