Best part of this should it happen will be the confirmation that they plan to play US shows every year. Even if only Seattle happens at least we will know Seattle is happening.
"Leiweke said Pearl Jam initially asked if the KeyArena remodel could be for music only, but they were told no, that it would be for music and sports just like MSG."
Too bad it couldn't just be music, that would be cool. If they have just "begun exploring" then this could still be shot down early on. I am also worried they might be setting themselves up for touring even less with this sort of arrangement.
But for all in Seattle (and those that get to travel a lot), I hope it works out.

I think residency has an unfairly bad reputation. Yes, Vegas is a place for has-beens to find an audience, but that doesn't mean that artists aren't still putting their hearts into their shows. Someone like The Who, The Stones, PJ, etc could put on regular shows without assembling the juggernaut of organisation and labour that comes with a tour. Less fatigue, less stress, more time for recording, I don't think the stigma is necessary and I think it will be disproven in the future.
If this happened I'd guess it wouldn't look exactly like Billy Joel at MSG just due to the population/tourism in New York and the surrounding area. Maybe PJ would play a couple, or a few times a year and in multi-night stands. Seattle also isn't even their best drawing city for ticket sales so it would be interesting to see how this would go.

If you're unfamiliar with the name Leiweke, he was briefly in Toronto with MLSE. In the short time he spent here he made a huge impact. This guy gets shit done. Very curious to see how this plays out.
Polishes up resume. Starts looking for jobs in Seattle.

If we want the band to do yearly shows, I can see this as a means to keep them active without having to figure as much logistics. In other words, their "off" years could be a few shows in Seattle in between years with bigger tours.
It's not like their fanbase wouldn't travel to see them...
I know there is little info on this and I am jumping the gun a bit with this comment but if they do start a residency in Seattle I really hope they do not follow the Billy Joel method. 1 show a month would be hard to justify a trip to Seatle imo for an east coaster like myself. It would be great if they did a similar style as to what they did closing the Spectrum in Philly. Either way this is great news for people on the west coast and hopefully, they start this year. Seattle is due.
If you read between the lines, we may see a residency at MSG, The Forum, Key Arena and something in Chicago. As they get older, they would only have to make 4 stops and cover large markets. 4 nights minimum in each location would cut cost on touring but still have tons of money from ticket sales coming in. I love this idea!!!

There is absolutely no hint of a residency anywhere other than Seattle. Reading between the lines is one thing, making up a lie is another.
oh man is it spendy there! people are buying in droves, The new Amazon is going in, i live in Tacoma 45 Minutes away, rent is the highest increase in the nation at the moment has rose to 7% in the last few months, whats happening is people are buying in Tacoma and Driving to seattle...our tax just went up this week to 10.1..Yikes!! turning us into LA
I don't think a residency is cool, the band is aware of their image, they won't do it.
