Available in both 192/24 and 96/24. Does not indicate that it has been remastered.

Any word yet on when R.A. will be reissued on vinyl?  Before 2025, I hope!  lol

Interesting that all of the tracks besides Save You and I Am Mine are "Album Versions." Are those two the "Single Versions"? Is there any difference?

I've been critical of buying bloated files, but I bought the 192/24 version. Sounds pretty good to these ears. It's hard for me to tell if it has been remastered as I haven't listened to the album much in the past decade. But if this is going to be pressed to vinyl, it should sound pretty good.

Prolly the digital files that they will cut to vinyl...ugh, but I guess it was recorded digitally, so that is the best we can get, meh

I can't remember which forum I saw it on, but if I remember correctly it was in line with the no code/yield hdtracks. I also believe they mentioned that Binaural was available in the UK hdtracks store.

I honestly feel digital gets a bad rap because of the way it's been utilized in the recording process. With storage as big and cheap as it is these days, there really is no reason to not record/master stuff to it's highest potential.

Yep, the DR is worse than the original CD. It's sad, but I don't think we'll ever get decent DR from the Pearl Jam camp.

They never championed vinyl for sound quality, they did for nostalgia and tangible reasons.

B Sides, I think what's been figured out is BoB got them to record everything digital instead of analog because he's an idiot, so all their reissues and originals can only be so good.  BoB fucked PJ.  This has all been discussed before.

Ok so maybe I don't really know enough about it. There are plenty of 24/192 files out there with great dynamic range ratings. I know there are transfers from analog masters, but are you saying it's impossible to record things digitally and still retain that type of excellent dynamic range? I'm really asking.

Again, based on my limited understanding of the recording process, I thought it would have more to do with how the technology was originally utilized when they recorded the masters.

Yep, the DR is worse than the original CD. It's sad, but I don't think we'll ever get decent DR from the Pearl Jam camp.
Yeah, I don't get it. The band has championed vinyl for a long time. You would think they want the best possible sound quality.

The CD format is certainly more than capable of handling excellent dynamic range. Both Doolittle and Bossanova by the Pixies are good examples of early 90s CDs with fantastic dynamic range.

You're exactly right about the technology used when they recorded the masters. But it has also to do with what the popular format was at the time. In the 90s, CD was king. Vinyl and cassettes were dead. So they started recording in digital because a lot of the early analog-to-digital conversions for CDs in the 80s sounded awful. After the iPod was introduced, everything shifted to making lossy audio sound as good as possible with crappy ear buds. Dynamic range went completely out the window in favor of compression. Riot Act was born in this environment. It's kind of harsh to blame Brendan O'Brien for this, as it was happening across the industry.

BoB is not the idiot. I'm the idiot for buying bloated files with poor dynamic range. And they'll keep doing this while there are people like me buying it. I tried to resist Uncle Neil's Pono nonsense, but I've fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.

I'm guessing this is all related to the subject "loudness wars"/compression, yes?

To my knowledge Pearl Jam recorded to tape untill S/T in 2006 (or maybe even Backspacer).

And Riot Act is considered one of their best sounding vinyls, so there is no reason for a digital version to not sound good.

BoB is not the idiot. I'm the idiot for buying bloated files with poor dynamic range. And they'll keep doing this while there are people like me buying it. I tried to resist Uncle Neil's Pono nonsense, but I've fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.
To my knowledge Pearl Jam recorded to tape untill S/T in 2006 (or maybe even Backspacer).

And Riot Act is considered one of their best sounding vinyls, so there is no reason for a digital version to not sound good.
I A/B'ed the "new" digital version with the original CD, and it does sound less raw and tighter, so there is a difference. It probably sounded good to me in my initial review because I hadn't listened to it in a long time. I hated listening to that album for a good long while, so it was fun to rediscover it. But when I ran the dynamic range, I was shocked to see that it was worse than the original CD. Maybe I shouldn't be worrying so much about the DR.

It's somewhat like a recent experience I had at the thrift store. They had 12 of the 15 "Oldies But Goodies" label CDs for a buck apiece. I bought them because the song selection is amazing...where else would I get 200 oldies from the '50s and '60s for 12 bucks? I went online to do some research about them and was shocked to discover the complete set going for 200 dollars on amazon. But then I noticed on the discs that they used a "Waring FDS" mastering technique. Searching for that led me to a Steve Hoffman forum link where they absolutely blasted the sound quality of those discs. There is much debate on that forum about sound quality, but it was universally agreed that the OBG discs were absolute crap. Apparently they used third or fourth generation tapes as the source which introduced speed problems. They also converted mono recordings to stereo poorly.

So, I was happy to get cheap music. But then I wasn't when I realized I had cheap quality. So, which should I feel? Sometimes, I feel like too much information can be a bad thing. Ignorance is bliss. If it makes you happy...(I won't finish they lyric, lol).

Thanks so much.... DAMN a 5, wow
Yep, the DR is worse than the original CD. It's sad, but I don't think we'll ever get decent DR from the Pearl Jam camp.
Yeah, I don't get it. The band has championed vinyl for a long time. You would think they want the best possible sound quality.

I feel that same way. In regards to the DR numbers, I try to not pay attention and let my ears tell me what sounds good, but in most cases my ears agree with DR #s.
