Broke up? I think they've just been quiet. http://www.chairpage.com

Diorama + tour is/was phenomenal. So pleased that other PJ fans are listening to silverchair :)

i heard a DJ like months ago say they were done. i hope he was wrong.

Back in May they called it quits.

There were several threads about it. Like this one:

    http://forums.pearljam.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=158148&p=3673081&hilit=silverchair#p3673081

They did everything except actually say breakup, but they broke up. They said they're on indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future. I read that the reason they used those words was to keep the possibility of playing for a good cause or charity event type thing open. But they said it wasn't fulfilling anymore and they needed to go their own ways, and they have. So they could possibly play again, but Silverchair as a recording and touring band is supposedly through. That doesn't mean much though, how many bands have broken up only to play again? My neighbor always rocks his 1982 Who "Farewell Tour" T-shirt on weekends which I get a chuckle out of.

Yep I think they're such an underrated band, everyone just stereotypes them for when they were 15 and did Frogstomp. They've changed so much though and for the better, the last 3 albums are incredible IMO.

Maybe it was just me, but I always found them a bit disappointing as a live act
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

I think it was you, I had seen them over 6 times.. and the only show that sucked was with powderfinger.. due to the whole crowd being pro-powderfinger/anti-silverchair and some overweight bimbo kicking me and my mate in the back for standing up and singing to the chair...

Seeing them at the Enmore Theatre was probably the second best gig I have ever been to.. next to Pearl Jam in Melbourne...

damn! maybe I was at the wrong shows? I gave them I few chances, saw the four times with various friends and never felt a real stage-audience connection. Not that it wasn't fine just not up to my expectations

My favourite gig was Belvoir Amphitheater (Diorama Tour). I loved the 'Across the Great Divide' (with Powderfinger) concert in Perth - maybe being outdoors with plenty of space for fans/not fans to come and go made the difference? I also saw them NYE (with Ammonia?) must have been '97/'98?... Can't believe didn't hear about the break-up til now!?

Only saw them once back in '07 in Minneapolis. It was the same night as Pearl Jam at Lolla in Chicago. For a while I was bummed about not making it to Lolla, but when I heard about and got tickets to Silverchair for that night instead it was all good.

I really liked Young Modern, probably the only album of theirs that I repeatedly listened too all the way through. And when I made the move to Australia last year I was excited at the possibility of seeing them again in concert. (They never seemed to play the States much) But almost right after I got here, they announce that they are 'parting ways' or whatever the press release said. :(

I was lucky enough to live in Sydney from 05-08 and got to see them quite a few times and they were amazing, especially the Young Modern album launch at the Carrigeworks. Putting on free booze and canopes all night for c500 people was very generous too.

Saw them in 1999 at PointFest in St.Louis - Kind of a strange in-between stage for them musically. Pretty thunderous sound for 3 guys. Glad to see this thread bumped up. Love Young Modern - my favorite thing they've done.

that was daniel's transformation from angry 17yo to political 19yo, all whilst battling anorexia.

neon ballroom is their most underrated album, and where most fans dropped off... like hugh freaking dillon. it was their no code/yield era. daniel johns was an amazing song writer.. how many 19yos could write emotion sickness and get david helfgott to play piano for him.

however daniel developed the unfortunate "axl rose" syndrome... where it was all about himself. massive ego maniac where every song had to be the next "greatest song ever written". complex arrangements, disjointed melodies, orchestras, weird ass tunings... long gone were the simplicities of power chords and dropped D tunings of frogstomp and freakshow.

i can understand people liking young modern, but i cant see how silverchair fans can like young modern. but the time that album was released, it wasnt even silverchair anymore - it was the daniel johns trio with chris and ben as studio musicians. as soon as daniel started bumming paul mac, it was all over.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.

That was the lead single to one of the greatest albums ever.

I respect Daniel for going all weird for Neon Ballroom and especially Diorama. David Botrill the guy who produced the album in an interview recently said this when asked about what bands he has worked with:

"Obviously I have to mention Silverchair. They’re great guys and Daniel Johns is an amazing musician and someone I would still call a prodigy. He is an unbelievable musician and creative personality. Looking back now, it is not surprising that he became so successful at such a young age because he is so incredibly talented."

This is coming from the guy who produced Muse and TOOL (Anima + Lateralus)

great quote. two of my favorite records ever. neon ballroom -- point of view and emotion sickness are in a league of their own. diorama -- in its entirety.

Fantastic band. I own all their stuff. Loved the first two when they first came out. I was 13 when Frogstomp came out so I always look at Silverchair as a band that i grew up with. They got much better as they went on. Hopefully someday they will release another album, because Young Modern was amazing

This is one of my all-time favorites. Boyfriend just introduced me to the album like a month ago and haven't stopped listening to it since. Title track is my favorite but Waiting All Day is a close second right along with Those Thieving Birds (both parts of course).

This album reminds me of the Beatles white album in many, many ways...

Wish Silverchair wasn't on permanent hiatus. Want to see them live so bad.

It's not my favourite Silverchair album but it's certainly has its moments:

It's a shame they called it a day, I was looking forward to seeing which direction the new album would be going in. It'll be interesting to see what Daniel does next

nah, I dropped off after Frogstomp. Loved that album. The next album's single didn't do it for me, honestly, can't even remember what it was. But when I heard Anthem, I thought "ok, these guys are DELIBERATELY trying to get a slot playing during the Super Bowl halftime show!".

Honestly i think i might be the only one who genuinely thinks that Silverchair started with their best record first and got gradually worse. Dont get me wrong i enjoy all their records, but that ealy sound was just great.

To each their own and I can understand and respect your opinion, I loved their early work initially, but as the years have gone by I find it hard to listen to those albums and much prefer the epicness of their latter work, especially Diorama.

If you keep losing sleep is an amazing track to me. The song is so crazy and creative. The vocals in the second verse always get me.

I actually think that Frogstomp is their worst album and I struggle to listen to it, especially after you listen to Diorama and Neon Ballroom
