I just gave this band a listen last week....odd. Anyway, you really need Opeth, Pelican, Mastodon, and High on Fire. I mean really.

I've really gotten into Xasthur...cool band. Here's a page for Xasthur made by another fan.

    1349
    5ive
    Absu
    Finntroll
    Pentagram

    Hey dudes,

Was just wondering if you guys know of any quality heavy bands I could check out as I am always looking for good new music.

Take in mind that below are some of the heavy bands I like:

    Tool
    Opeth
    Isis
    Nine Inch Nails
    Cog

I'd like some recommendations, as well. Shadows Fall & Lamb of God are decent new metal.

I'm tired of bands rapping over fourth-rate Pantera riffs.
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

These guys were cool. Goatwhore (sammy duet's new band) also rock pretty hard espcilly live.

Also viggs mentioned high on fire... they rock quite hard in that sludgy way.

F*&K yeah, Goatwhore!!! We played with them a few times and they are bad-ass!! The drummer is insane, if you like them you should like Soilent Green (Ben - the singer's other older band) they arent as crazy death metal like, but they are still great.

I also saw some one mentioned Candiria, they are one of the best bands on the planet (aside from PJ of course)
If you like crazy jazz influenced metal, then they are def worth checking out...

I guess they aren't death metal like Entombed, At The Gates or Morbid Angel but SYL is pretty fucking heavy. Let's just call it metal.

Don't be stupid, yes they are. What you mean to say is that they are not thrash, at least judging by your examples.

No question. SYL is one of the heaviest bands I know of. Their new disc is amazing. But really heavy metal doesn't make it death metal :P

Yeah, they are truly light years ahead of thier time! ..and came sooooo close to not being here at all anymore (they got in a huge car accident a few years ago)
If you get a chance, go see them live, you will be speechless. Plus, they are all great people to hang with.

They have some live tracks on the myspace page I think its http://www.myspace.com/candiria (yes, the link works)
  • Has anyone mentioned the English band Queen Adreena yet? They're just amazing.

Hails to Xasthur. I've been trying to find A gatethrough bloodstained mirrors on cd for a while now. You should check it out, total bliss.

Also, I cannot believe you guys fail to mention Mayhem, Burzum, Immortal etc...
