We have shit corporate bands and emo, they have bands that are just plain bad, annoying, and not musically talented. I would call it pretty even. To tell you the truth, I feel like we have had better bands from America for the most part in the last couple decades
This decade
The Redwalls
Interpol
BRMC
OK Go
The Killers
The Strokes
Switchfoot
The Fray
Kings Of Leon
vs.
Coldplay
Snow Patrol
and a song here and there by a few other bands
And we all know that America ruled 90's rock musicAlpine Valley 2000
Summerfest 2006

Its middle America that makes it look this way, those are the people who are buying Hinder albums and voting for Bush. Nickelback is pretty much a laughingstock on the coasts but they're huge in middle America. That being said, the stuff that's popular on the coasts these days doesn't do it for me either.0

in all honesty kings of leon were the reason i moved quicker to get my pearl jam tix. ive been listening to KoL for years now and have them live about 5 times and they have yet to disappoint me. for me they have been consistent. and how can you not like joe's head?hear my name

Because most American's are brainwashed (I'm not). TV rots your brain and todays youth is effected by what the television feeds them. MTV and American Idol garbage.0

If you like Kings Of Leon, go listen to 'em. If you like Nickelback, go listen to 'em. If you like the Pussycat Dolls, go listen to 'em. Who cares?
I wish my life was so simple that I had time to approve everyone else's cd collection.0 -
Here's a mind blowing concept. What if you're mistaken and you are the ones who are listening to the bad music and it's the rest of America that's listening to good music.
Or just maybe the whole thing is subjective, but that would just be crazy talk. amirite?0 -

US charts equal= Teenage pop driven dumb asses
they do not reflect anything but who's hot0 -
ill briefly mention all the "pop" bashing that is going on in this thread, and take a more specific road in my response....
Hey folks.. MTV and American Idol aren't to blame for the "shitty" music. Idol performers pick songs that have been popular throughout the years to sing. Its not like all week every week they are covering AKON, Pink or Gwen Stefani... They cover songs that have been hits in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's... Which means those songs were popular well before AI or MTV. Sure, the people of a pearl jam board may recognize 1978 as having some great rock.... but guess what folks? Disco was topping the charts.
80's? Um, yeah.. the "rock" that most loved and topped the charts was Quiet Riot, Poison, etc. Sure there were some other bands making timeless rock... but it didnt own the charts.
While Nirvana and Pearl Jam and the "seattle" sound may be in the forefront of our minds...Also think back to Tony Toni Tone', Robyn, The Real McCoy and some of the other awful dance music that sold a ton of albums in the 90's.
Its not MTV and AI's fault that decent rock acts dont hit the charts like they used too..... Its OUR fault... When a Taylor Hicks album hits the stores, teenage girls and grandmothers still take the time to drive up to Best Buy and pick up the record....
When a pearl jam record, or another good rock record comes out, or we hear about it, what do most of us do? We go download it. Some of us may buy it, but a lot of folks wont. When In Through The Out Door came out, rock was hardly king, but because the whole rock base mobilized to buy it, it still debuted well... that doesnt happen now.0 -
Because all Americans suck I guess. Why the generalization and does anyone really care what the taste in music is of the masses in particular region of the world? Its not a disease or anything. The music you like is safe.0
