U2 song break

I'm not sure I know what it means, but I like the way it sounds.
Running to Stand Still
And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was
Lying still
Said I gotta do something
About where we're going
Step on a steam train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing Ha, Ah La La La De Day
Ah La La La De Day
Ah La La De Day
Sweet the sin
Bitter taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out
You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice
You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here
Singing...Ha La La La De Day
Ha La La La De Day
Ha La La De Day
She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will...
Suffer the needle chill
She is running to stand
Still.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0 -
I'm a huge U2 and PJ fan.
Running To Stand Still is a beautiful song.
It's about a friend of Bono in Dublin who was a drug addict I think - very poignant - so glad they brought back the original version of it for the latest tour.Is death, that silent, dreamless situation

i'm irish and i do not see what all the fuss is about U2, i think Bonno is the most self righteous git in the world, all this "niceness" and charity or politics work is just brilliant publicity and its obviously working, all u2 songs sound the same, the edge has only i effect that he uses on every song, bono has to kae his mind up weather he wants to be a politican or a musican. pearl jam are a million times a better band than U20

Respect your opinion mate - Bono does get up my nose sometimes but they have written lots of great songs.
As for all their songs sounding the same - listen to the Zooropa and Pop albums - totally unlike any of their others.
I totally understand WHY people hate U2 but I still have a soft spot for them as the band that got me thinking music could be serious and rock at the same time.Is death, that silent, dreamless situation

u2 made a massive impact in my life, for me they opened the door to proper guitar music and it lead to me appreciating a whole load of different genres including pj. you can say you don't like bono but to say all their stuff sounds the same is like saying all pj stuff sounds the same which is bullshit mr handman, if u wanna hear shit that sounds the same 50 cent and all the other creaters of audio turd are waiting for you.www.myspace.com/rockmastergeneral
To break down borders and realise that we are one species and then the true patriotism comes from pride and love of the human race, not from the tribes of which we currently are divided, open your eyes your mind will see! - ME0 -
You're dead right there.
Every band that is distictive has their individual sound - PJ have theirs, for U2 Edge's delay guitar sound is unique - you know exactly who it is before you even hear Bono sing, same with Stone and Mike in PJ.Is death, that silent, dreamless situation

Saw them a week ago today in Oakland and they were fantastic. Very cool positive vibe running through the whole night."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0

@showtime: yeah the cult had some similar guitar sounds but Edge's style is still all his own
U2's amazing. I actually enjoy all eras of their music, but I think Joshua Tree-Achtung Baby was their peak. Bad and Running to Standstill are my current favorites. Bonos one of those guys, along with Vedder, I just think is awesome and I wish I could meet them. It really bugs me that he gets all sorts of criticism for trying to help people.
Anyone get the new Live from Chicago dvd? its greatI've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

i just have an incredible amount of respect for u2 for multiple reasons. one, they are a group of friends that started a band without really knowing how to play their instruments. that shows some great faith and dedication. and second, they use all that "star power" for greater causes...instead of 20 inch rims and some "ice."
speaking of irish bands...whatever happened to the cranberries?0 -

I was thinking a similiar thing last week before the U2 show I saw. Just looking at the arena all set up with the elipse, etc. and I thought how cool it was to start a band in the late 70s and have it become such a huge thing that I would pay $50 to sit behind the stage!!!! (where the view was not bad at all).
I did hear that when they formed they did not know how to play instruments (I think I saw it on VH1 legends a few years ago) and that has always stuck with me."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -
Adam got fired from his first band because he couldn't play a note!!
Some would say he still can't play!Is death, that silent, dreamless situation

I was just thinking of how Bono and Eddie Vedder are two lead singers I find hard to criticize, two highly intelligent, bold, passionate, creative people. But maybe my next post will be about a mistake I think Eddie Vedder made.
well, make this your next post please and let us all know what the mistake Ed made ? ThanksFor the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside

If you twist and turn away.
It you tear yourself in two again.
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would let it go.
Surrender, dislocate.
If I could throw this lifeless life-line to the wind.
Leave this heart of clay, see you walk, walk away
Into the night, and through the rain
Into the half light and through the flame.
If I could, through myself, set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away, see you break, break away
Into the light and to the day.
To let it go and so to fade away.
To let it go and so find away.
I'm wide awake.
I'm wide awake, wide awake.
I'm not sleeping.
If you should ask, then maybe
They'd tell you what I would say
True colours fly in blue and black
Blue silken sky and burning flag.
Colours crash, collide in blood-shot eyes.
If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would let it go.
This desperation, dislocation
Separation, condemnation
Revelation, in temptation
Isolation, desolation
Let it go and so to find away
To let it go and so to find away
To let it go and so to find away
I'm wide awake, I'm wide awake, wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh no, no, no.

That there, is my #1 favourite U2 song of all time. Its on their album The Unforgettable Fire, for those not familiar with the band. It is hauntingly beautiful.
And as justam pointed out, Ed sang a little bit of that as a tag...I think to daughter, but I'm not 100% sure here in Toronto.
The other song they sang half of was "A Sort of Homecoming" from the same album. U2 themselves have never done that one on this side of the Atlantic, but its a beautiful song in it's own right.
A Sort of Homecoming
And you know it's time to go
Through the sleet and driving snow
Across the fields of mourning
Light in the distance
And you hunger for the time
Time to heal, desire, time
And your earth moves beneath
Your own dream landscape
Oh, oh, oh...
On borderland we run...
I'll be there
I'll be there...
Tonight
A high road
A high road out from here
The city walls are all come down
The dust, a smoke screen all around
See faces ploughed like fields that once
Gave no resistance
And we live by the side of the road
On the side of a hill
As the valley explode
Dislocated, suffocated
The land grows weary of its own
Oh, oh, oh...on borderland we run...
And still we run
We run and don't look back
I'll be there
I'll be there
Tonight
Tonight
I'll be there tonight...I believe
I'll be there...somehow
I'll be there...tonight
Tonight
The wind will crack in winter time
This bomb-blast lightning waltz
No spoken words, just a scream...
Tonight we'll build a bridge
Across the sea and land
See the sky, the burning rain
She will die and live again
Tonight
And your heart beats so slow
Through the rain and fallen snow
Across the fields of mourning
Light's in the distance
Oh don't sorrow, no don't weep
For tonight, at last
I am coming home

2 days prior to Bono coming out at the Toronto show for RITFW, Ed came out at U2's show (also in Toronto) and sang Old Man River, which is what U2 tags on the end of One. It was an amazing, surreal site, and I'm blessed to have been there both nights."Rock and roll is something that can't be quantified, sometimes it's not even something you hear, but FEEL!" - Bob Lefsetz0 -

ohh btw...hate to be picky, but not sure what site you got the lyrics from but its not "find away"...its FADE away.
BTW another song thats gets me emotional is from their new album. Its the song Bono wrote for his father.
Sometimes You Can't Make It On your Own
Tough
You think you've got the stuff
You're telling me and anyone
You're hard enough
You don't have to put up a fight
You don't have to always be right
Let me take some of the punches
For you tonight
Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone
And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
We fight all the time
You and I, that's alright
We're the same soul
I don't need
I don't need to hear you say
That if we weren't so alike
You'd like me a whole lot more
Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone
And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
I know that we don't talk
I'm sick of it all
Can you hear me when I sing...
You're the reason I sing
You're the reason why the opera is in me
Where are we now?
I've still got to let you know
A house still doesn't make a home
Don't leave me here alone
And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you that makes it hard to let go
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
Sometimes you can't make it
Best you can do is to fake it
Sometimes you can't make it on your own"Rock and roll is something that can't be quantified, sometimes it's not even something you hear, but FEEL!" - Bob Lefsetz0
