great eye ! I didnt catch that- I actually pulled the lyrics off of their official site- http://www.U2.com . Anyhow- going to the Garden tonight- I hope they play " Bad "- but i see they did lst night and probably wont do back to back closings like that ! Oh well.

    nice " find " ACC ! ; o )

My 1st or 2nd favorite band was U2, and I still love them so much than PJ.
U2 is like that bands that never dies. The best of Europa today.

haha Yes! I was there for U2 on Saturday night, and man, I knew Pearl Jam were coming on Monday, and I wondered if Bono would bring out Vedder to sing, but then tossed the idea away.

And so when Bono brought out Vedder, I was so shocked. I'd never seen Pearl Jam before, and I was seeing them on Monday the 19th. So to see Vedder singing with Bono, both of my favorite vocalists, it was really one hell of an experience. And also it was cool when Bono took my friend's camera and started taking pictures with it and handed it back to her.

A Sort Of Homecoming has been my favorite U2 song for a couple of years, so when Pearl Jam started playing it on Monday, once again, it was an experience and a half.

Those were the first two concerts I was ever able to afford going to.

Sorry, I couldn't get what Bono was saying, everyone was soooooo loud when Bono came out, and I was in the 300s.
    things were different then
    all is different now
    I tried to explain
    somehow...
  • hahah i was there too n what ever he made up n said was way to fast for me to catch n the place was just going nuts, it was sweet seeing the people when they turned the house lightso n

Dude "Discotheque" was one of the best songs on POP, which I think is actually a great album. Zooropa was ok, but one of their weaker efforts(probably along with Unforgettable Fire and maybe October in my book). Now, comparing their experimental albums to their peak isnt quite fair, most albums that exist cant stand up to Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby(in my top 5 albums easily)
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

  • red hill mining town and all i want is you are my all time faves!

They ran out of inspiration after Achtung Baby in my opinion. They tried a few things but mainly failed and have reverted to making easily digestable music whilst shoving their brand/reputation down people's throats. I don't like it. He always wanted to be 'Bono - The Living Legend' and I guess now he has his wish.

But the days of I Will Follow, Bad, Where The Streets Have no Name and Pride are long gone.

some might say they are peaking again with all that you can't leave behind and how to dismantle an atomic bomb.

    Miracle drug

I want to trip inside your head
    Spend the day there...
To hear the things you haven't said
And see what you might see

I want to hear you when you call
Do you feel anything at all?
I want to see your thoughts take shape
    And walk right out

    Freedom has a scent
Like the top of a new born baby's head

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough I'm not giving up
    On a miracle drug

Of science and the human heart
    There is no limit
There is no failure here sweetheart
    Just when you quit...

I am you and you are mine
    Love makes nonsense of space
    And time... we'll disappear
Love and logic keep us clear
Reason is on our side, love...

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough of romantic love
I'd give it up, yeah, I'd give it up
For a miracle, a miracle drug, a miracle drug

God I need your help tonight

    Beneath the noise
    Below the din
    I hear a voice
    It's whispering
    In science and in medicine
    "I was a stranger
    You took me in"

The songs are in your eyes
I see them when you smile
I've had enough of romantic love
I'd give it up, yeah, I'd give it up
    For a miracle, miracle drug

    Miracle, miracle drug

Thank you! I also liked them up until then, but it just seems to me that its the other way around as far as who admires who. Bono wishes he could be like Ed. ANd youre right about digestable music(pop/radiofriendly, whatever u wanna call it) Its all just recycled and redundant. I dont wanna upset anyone cause my sis and bro in law love U2 and last nite we had a 3 hr debate on the diff. between the 2 bands.
I just think Pj is in aleague of their own considering they dont need any marketing, sponsors or publicity to convey their message.

I like U2 and had a great time at their concert in November. I do see what you are talking about though. In the "Ten Past Ten" article in Spin, Bono talks about how he "is a fan of the Pearl Jam organization" and that he didn't know how much longer U2 could keep up with the kind of tour, promotion, etc.

I think the answer is somewhere in the middle of the 2 bands. I think a lot of people might like Pearl Jam but aren't exposed to a lot of their new music due to the fact that they don't super-promote and radio does not give their new stuff a lot of airplay. This is where I can see where U2 promotes their asses off because music will not get to people now by just being on the radio because so many less people are listening to commercial radio now with ipods, etc. Still it doesn't feel right to see Bono singing "Original of the Species" on an ipod 30 times an hour on TV even if they didn't take any money for it.

and the funny thing is, Bono is not the 1st one to mention PJ as an inspiration or being a fan, and still....PJ remains where they are, nowhere to be seen or heard of, except thru the fans. Honestly? without the help of mass marketing and promotion U2 isnt where they are today, hands down, and thats why I respect PJ...cause they contribute the same if not more and have more of an impact as evidenced on this board and the sickest fan/band relationship I never knew existed until recently...and on their own steam nonetheless.

i brought up that ipod thing last nite like a million times....lmao damn that thing gets me.
But I WILL give them credit for being a voice, having created music I can relate to until the 90's(songs actually like end of the world, which mean more to me than say....Its a beautiful day, which I coulda watched Mr. Rogers neighborhood if I wanted to hear that )and still contributing to charities and stuff, but again...no need to strike a pose Bono...lol :D

those would be wrong. Their best album will always be Actung for about a million reasons many of them being context. and Pop gets my vote for one of most underated albums of the decade. as much as I really did like All that you can't leave behind I felt it was a step sideways, more of a cros between joshua tree and Actung. the new one is a complete waste, I saw them in in April and only got excited for the stuff off of Actung and Boy, I thought I would get into the new one more after seeing stuff live but not so much.
