The person that wrote before you explained the chemical process well. It does work. The Western culture should do more of this prevenative medicine like other parts of the world does. There would be a lot less cancer and disease in America. Here in America, we like to put a bandaid on sickness instead of get to the root of the problem because (Like all things) of the money companys will make. AMerica needs more education about methods that have been used since the beginning of man such as fasting.
A cleanse is not only good for the body but for the spirit. It clears all of the toxins out so the all the senses are once again cleared.
I have done them and am a whitness that everything feels better when i am done. My skin glows, the bloating leaves and I have a ton more energy. I feel better. My body is thankful for it.
...ANd the will power it takes to give up these things takes a ton of inner strength. Having power over urges is rewarding in itself.*KRISTAL*XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Is there any actual science behind detox/cleansing/purging diets that someone could point me to? From what I've read this is junk science at best. You're probably feeling a placebo effect. Or maybe you feel good because you just spent the previous 10 days feeling like shit."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

You could research it and I will too. I am not sure if "Western science" has focused much on it. (Did you the see the molecular breakdown when a person does fast that was in a previous post in this thread?) When a person goes to a Dr. and is diagnosed with a problem, they are usually not advised to do a cleanse. Regardless, I think this is because in our advanced technology we have lost touch with simple maintenance of our bodies. Again, the band aid. The costly band aid.
It is something I have learned from other venues such as people's personal experiences such as my Indian friend (from India) and it was passed down to him from prior generations. ALso, I have talked to Native AMericans that have done similar cleanses. Mostly, this desire comes from my own inner voice telling me that it something I should do. Science is wonderful but unfortunatly, they don't have all the answers.
And yes the 10 days of shit do make eating (and all those other favorite things we put in our mouths) taste so much better but it is much more then that.
That is the best way I can explain it.
Who really can hear our bodies better then ourselves?*KRISTAL*XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

I don't believe in the cleanse diet. If you want to feel good, eat healthy. If you want the toxins out of your body, eat healthy. Fruits and vegetables have fiber they will clean a system out as quickly or as slowly as you want depending on the amount a person eats. Different grains have fiber, too. The side effect, of course is that it's not a fad diet and can be sustained every day for the rest of your life.
I haven't had coffee/tea/soda for 40 days after 15 years of addiction to coffee. What is amazing to me is that I have the same amount of energy but without the sleepiness. In fact, my insomnia is worseThere is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous

It's great that Ed's quit smoking at least for a few days anyway. But he looks so thin lately. I really hope he's not "detoxing" himself away to nothing. I can understand that detoxing is good for the system, as I've done it before, but I could lose a few pounds. I like Eddie with a little meat on his bones.0

Peal Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has revealed that he is currently on a crash detox diet.
Vedder told Interview magazine that he wanted to lose weight followig the band's recent US tour.
"It's a heavy detox, so nothing in my belly except water, salt and cayenne pepper. I'm doing the Master Cleanse, which also means I'm not smoking. I haven't smoked for four days,” he said.
Vedder, who was talking to Josh Brolin, star of the movie W, said he wasn't confident enough to predict how successful the diet would be.
"I don't know how it's all going to come out -- this is, like, four days in. In fact, I don't want to talk about it. But it does feel weird,” he said.
“I'm feeling different ... I'm kind of walking around in a daze, wondering if this is all really happening."And I'm not living this life without you, I'm selfish and clear
And you're not leaving here without me, I don't wanna be without

if you go on that Master Cleanse diet website, it goes through every step and gives you all the information you are asking for and more.
They tell you how much to drink a day. No drink other then their recipe they provide which is cayenne pepper, lemons, maple syrup (B grade) organic, filtered water. Then you are supposed to drink herbal tea and salt twice a day for constipation. It's all in there.
Also, someone added in this thread about the different types of fasts. If it is your first time, they recommend other fasts other then the Master Cleanse.
Good luck!*KRISTAL*XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Someone posted on this thread about the process that happens on a cell level that once a person stops eating for 24 hours, toxins that are in the system from Environmental issues are released. This only happens when there is no food intake. I agree with the fruit and vegetable thing as good maintenance but it doesn't get rid of as much toxins as a cleanse. But to each their own.
Congrads on quitting soda, tea, coffee! That's great. I wonder how long it takes to get it out of your system?
Fasting has been found to cure many medical problems, such as insomnia:

10 days, so today is my last day. I may do this twice a year. I really feel good.0 -

You should drink between 6 and 12 glasses of the "lemonade". Whenever you chose to drink it is up to you. Basically when you feel hungry, grab a glass.
Your assumption is correct; nothing but the lemonade during the cleanse.0 -

thanks! Do you truly have to follow the re-entry process as described in the program, or can you move past the broth immediately? I think I'd rather drink the lemonade then the broth :(0 -

I don't have a problem with not eating for 24 hours and getting those toxins to the surface. Just flush those toxins out with gorgeous fruit and vegetables and water. Then add more varieties of food back.
The main question, and why I'm skeptical about cleanses, and the master cleanse in particular, is how many people who go through the cleanse change their lifestyles to reflect a healthier attitude afterwards? Did that person learn anything about a healthy lifestyle? If they did, then why would they do a cleanse again? Don't they feel good already? If that person is worried about weight loss, wouldn't a long term plan be better?
On the flip side I can totally understand spiritual fasts, but it's to slow down the body processes to obtain the goal. I was on a 2 day winter solstice fruit fast. I felt great afterwards, but instead of needing it again the next year I just decided to add more fruit to my lifestyle throughout the year. If I needed that level of stillness I could just go back, but I'm doing a ok.There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous
