Heh, I only say I wait for a drought because I can't be overloaded with music. I've gotten three really good albums a little over a week ago and I need to let those soak in. I may venture into White Stripes and Radiohead next. While we're at it I've seen two recommendations for what Stripes album I should get first but what's everyone else think? Usually I start at the beginning with bands that have a well established discography like Pearl Jam and that worked out real well.Pearl Jam Album Rankings

Hypnotize
I want to hypnotize you baby
On the telephone
So many times I called your house
Just to hear the tone
And though I knew you were't home
I didn't mind so much 'cause I'm so alone
I want to hypnotize you baby
On the telephone
I want to spin my little watch
Right before your eyes
You're the kind of girl a guy like me
Could hypnotize
And if this comes as a surprise
Just think of all those guys
Who would tell you lies
I want to spin my little watch
Right before your eyes
I want to hold your little hand
If I can be so bold
And be your right hand man
'til your hands get old
And then when all the feeling's gone
Just decide if you want to keep holding on
I want to hold your little hand
If I can be so bold
If I can be so bold
If I can be so bold0 -
Fuck yeah it's good. It's gooder than good.
And nobody can deny the Depp-like looks of our Jackie... um, YUM.
Ahhhh...
"The Denial Twist"
If you think that a kiss is all in the lips
C'mon, you got it all wrong, man
And if you think that our dance was all in the hips
Oh well, then do the twist <~~~~~~~~~~~~~loooove the little laugh here!!!
If you think holding hands is all in the fingers
Grab hold of the soul where the memory lingers and
Make sure to never do it with the singer
'Cause he'll tell everyone in the world
What he was thinking about the girl
Ya, what he's thinking about the girl, oh
A lot of people get confused and they bruise
Real easy when it comes to love
They start putting on their shoes and walking out
And singing "boy, I think I had enough"
Just because she makes a big rumpus
She don't mean to be mean or hurt you on purpose, boy
Take a tip and do yourself a little service
Take a mountain turn it into a mole
Just by playing a different role
Ya, by playing a different role, oh
The boat ya you know she's rockin' it
And the truth well ya know there's no stoppin' it
The boat ya you know she's still rockin' it
The truth well you know there's no stoppin' it
So what, somebody left you in a rut
And wants to be the one who's in control
But the feeling that you're under can really make you wonder
How the hell she can be so cold
So now you're mad, denying the truth
And it's hidden in the wisdom in the back of your tooth
Ya need ta spit it out, in a telephone booth
While ya call everyone that you know, and ask 'em
Where do you think she goes
Oh ya, where d'ya suppose she goes, oh
The truth well you know there's no stoppin' it
And the boat well ya know she's still rockin' it
The boat ya you know she's still rockin' it
And the truth ya you know there's no stoppin' it
You recognize with your back in the back?
That it's colder when she rocks the boat
But it's the cause hittin on the Cardinal Laws?
'bout the proper place to hang her coat
So to you, the truth is still hidden
And the soul plays the role of a lost little kitten but
You should know that the doctors weren't kiddin?
She's been singing it all along
But you were hearin' a different song
Ya you were hearin' a different song
But you were hearin' a different song

Oh man, I've had SO many Stripey things going on lately. I finished watching Moore Park, AU '03 and even though I knew what greatness I was getting myself into, the duo blew me the hell away like it was my FIRST viewing!!!!! Damn!! JACKIE collapsing to his knees, so wrapped up in the music...sooo feeling it and sooo tearing that guitar to SHREDS! Completely morfed into the thing too! Him and his intrument united as one resulting in power beyond any of us. It really is one hell of a thing to witness. He especially had my jaw dropping during --one of the greatest covers that just rips me apart with it's beauty/intensity~>LOVE SICK, the HOLY "TOO SEXY FOR MYSELF"~> BALL & BISCUIT, and the shake your hips, smoothered in blues & groove beloved cover~> DEATH LETTER. Literally jaw-dropping performances here.
The man is one hell of a work of art! Whew!! All his little semi-moon walks too. HAHA! Looove it. Nothing compares to SEEING all the music that pours outta him though. How each layer of sound completely possesses him and in turn possesses you. Soooo incredible!!!
Ok...just had to get that out. There are other viewings that took place but I'll save that for another post.
LeeAnn...first off, SUCH a kick ass choice of song there.I absolutely LOVE the middle part!!! Where the drums and guitar really start going nuts with each other. Ahhh! The way it builds and builds!?? Brilliant! That last verse always gets me too, especially "and then when all the feeling's gone-just decide if you want to keep holding on"
Secondly, aww that sucks about the download. See, this is why I am a MAC ONLY girl.haha. Stupid PCs and all their crashing. Grrr! Well hey, no worries. I know that was a huge ass file. I'm gonna post the version I was talking about in here for yours (and everyone elses) listening pleasure. The crowd simply KICKS ASS.....

I cannot get over it.:o I'm so glad to hear that it's rockin your life. And yep, The Denial Twist is fuckin awesome. I think this makes the 3rd time it's been posted up in here. haha. Well hey..we seriously can't get enough.hehe. Pretty much sums up how we feel about the band all together.
Aww love that little laugh there too. Ok but wait a second...are you quoting {WS} in you sig as well??? Ooooh HEEELL YES!! Just when I thought Huggy couldn't possibly love you anymore.
Heeey btw....pj_zombie! I saw in The Ranconteurs thread that you've been listening to some White Stripes albums. Wooohoo! Way to go buddy. Please be sure to let us know how that's going. Are you completely baffled by the musical god that is JACKIE WHITE yet??? Do tell!

Why yes, yes I am, thanks for noticing (goes well with my little guy flipping off the world, eh?).I'm telling you, this duo is seriously rivaling my PJ love these days... although nobody truly tops the boys in my book as far as bands still making music goes...
I cannot believe it took me so long to discover the {WS} magic. I guess you either get it or you don't... A lot of people think they suck... I hadn't ever really given them a chance till I saw them live... and now I cannot get enough (thank you AGAIN Sigh Eternally, my beautiful little brother)!
I've often wondered if any of the PJ boys have given the Dynamic Duo a serious listen. You'd think that if they did, they'd be drawn by both the musical talent and the lyrics (certainly what hooked me). Holy fuck! It's some of the greatest stuff ever! And I'm a picky-ass music person, too... the hub is always telling me I'm "not diversified enough". Whatevah, hon... :rolleyes:Sorry if I can't do the rap, hip-hop, country, or Tejano these days... too much good ROCK to listen to!

Yeah, I borrowed Elephant from a friend for a good week and gave it at least 10 listens. Now that I gave it back my CD case feels a little empty so I'm going to have to pick it up soon. Jack White is definately a talented musician and the lyrics/vocals were done well. This'll be my first White Stripes album so where should I go after this?Pearl Jam Album Rankings

YAY Lizzy! I loooove it.
Seriously, I liked the band a lot before but seeing them live has especially sent me over the edge. I hear ya on that. I'm just obsessed now! I really think after you actually witness this magic, this chemistry, this huge sound from 2 people live...well the love & respect is just pushed to the highest extreme. Anyone that sees them live for the first time and is not way deeper in love or freshly deep in love is just plain CRAZY!! I agree with you, JACKIE is a huge talent all around. I can't praise his lyrics enough either. They definitely draw you in. I actually made a WHITE STRIPES mix cd for my ex before he moved to Hawaii a few months back. Well he sent me a message a few days ago thanking me for it...he says he listens to it EVERY SINGLE DAY!
HORRAY!
He also commented on how catchy and captivating Jackie's lyrics are.
This coming from a man that never, I repeat...NEVER listens to lyrics. We use to get into long convos about this. I never understood how lyrics didn't matter nor stand out to him. Anyways, as you could imagine when I heard this news it put THE biggest smile ever on my face.
Not only the fact that he's looovin it up with the {WS} mix cd, but the fact that he actually gave props to Jackie's lyrics. That's huuuuge! Yes, as if further proof is needed~~>Jackie is a fuckin musical mastermind. In so many ways the man just OWNS.
I was watching old MTV interviews with the Dynamic Duo awhile back. I really can't say it enough...I completely admire and appreciate their entire approach to music making. It's so raw, real, fresh, original, classic. Each time I hear Jackie talk about live shows...how they never rehearse, they never have a set list!? I mean jesus!! All of this to add to the uniqueness/ specialness of the show and overall entire live/{WS} experience. Soooo beautiful! They really know what it's about! This style, sound, approach and vibe is definitely unsurpassed. All around the band clearly stands out in a league all their own.
Alright...that's my "I'm in LOVE with THE WHITE STIPES" gushing for the day.
pj_zombie! Right on! Elephant is for sure a classic {WS} album. Love it to bits. I don't see how anyone can deny that badboy. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. This is the start of a great relationship. What next? Hmmm. Well honestly no matter what you decide you can't go wrong. I agree with PearlStripes. It might be a good idea to kinda work your way back and go with WHITE BLOOD CELLS next. All the albums are equally great if you ask me. I do find myself listening to DE STIJL a whole lot though.
You definitely need to educate yourself on the greatness of GET BEHINND ME SATAN too!!! All in due time. hehe. Really though, whatever you do decide to do at this point will be the right choice.
Speaking of DE STIJL, Lizzy I don't think this ones been posted yet so allow me to do the honors! This one's for you MommSissyBear. So glad we can not only share in PJ together...but also the almighty STRIPES. We sure do have awesome taste.
This is such a great song. I'm gonna BUMP up the love with this hooky little number. This main guitar just digs into you....and I LOOOVE the way Jackie sings the "oooh ooh".Such a groovy, catchy ass song. This breakdown before the chorus is awesome as hell too!!

he thinks I'm one-dimensional. oooooooooo-kee-dokee! I'll just continue to explore parallel universes within my chosen genre, thank you very much. 1D Lizzy, that's me.
Whoa, that's major progress on the ex studying lyrics. I have a friend who was the same way -- "I just listen to the music, not the words" (whaaa???) so I have printed out I don't know HOW many PJ songs for her (since that's what she's subjected to a lot when around me, heh) and it really opened her eyes. Now she says the music on the Top 40 stations "is shit because it doesn't say anything".Mission accomplished! Granted, we can all go for a lose-your-mind doo-da-de singalong from time to time, but the music that MATTERS is the music that speaks to you. And so it is, for me, with PJ and the mighty {WS}.
How does all that SOUND come out of 2 people?!? A-may-zing!

PJ Zombie,
That's the best way to do it IMO. Spend time with each disc. You'll love White Blood Cells. If you like the raw stuff, rockin' bluesy vibes from an artist truely feeling the music, their first release is awesome. Some catchy shit! And then there's De Stijl. Apple Blossom! Fill us in on De Stijl Vedhead. You're Pretty Good Looking .....For a Girl.
hey little apple blossom
what seems to be the problem
all the ones you tell your troubles to
they don't really care for you
come and tell me what you're thinking
cause just when the boat is sinking
a little light is blinking
and i will come and rescue you
lots of girls walk around in tears
but that's not for you
you've been looking all around for years
for someone to tell your troubles to
come and sit with me and talk awhile
let me see your pretty little smile
put your troubles in a little pile
and i will sort them out for you
i'll fall in love with you
i think i'll marry you0 -

YAY!!! AWW!!!I can't stop smiling! This is fuckin great news. I really had such a good feeling about them winning too. Aww, today has kicked ass! What a perfect end to it all. HELL YES!!! CONGRATS TO THE TWO!
We couldn't imagine the beloved album not winning and check it out.
YES!!!!!
pj_zombie...good idea. I hear ya with taking time with each album. Shit with this band that gets extended beyond the norm it seems.haha, yep...nearly PJ style. It's hard as hell to stop listening to these albums!! I agree PearlStripes, I too think he's gonna love WHITE BLOOD CELLS. It is super raw! Oooo, did you say DE STIJL? Fill you in, eh? Well posting Apple Blossom is a huge part of the answer there. What a little gem. Such a beeeeautiful/cute little song.
I also don't think I've mentioned how in love I am with DEATH LETTER. Shit! The song is soooo groovy. It's as if Jackie was destined to cover it. Such a perfect match and easily one of my most listened to Stripes tracks.....along with the REMARKABLY GORGEOUS I'm Bound To Pack It Up.
Oh and more gorgeousness....Truth Doesn't Make a Noise, Sister, Do You Know My Name?, A Boy's Best Friend. The album just seems to have a lot of heart to it, and a lot of heart tuggin beauties. I love that about it.
MeGaJuNkIe^...ROCK ON! Hey you don't need to have listened lately to know this band kicks major ass!!NOTE : You probably should do yourself a favor and listen soon though.
