The Drones are quite interesting as well. The Sadies are fucking brilliant. Pair them with Neko Case (as they've done numerous times) and that's a helluva band. I just saw the Drive by Truckers earlier in the summer, and they were great. I'd like to see 'em play a longer show though (they were only an opener).

Just popped on Mike Ness (of Social Distortions) solo album Under The Influences, and that one (along with Cheating at Solitare) could fit under the alt-country tag. Both excellent albums, the cover of Big Iron on Under the Influences is pretty damn good.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Thats an outdated link for Golden Smog, from the Weird Tales days. They just released a new album on Lost Highway, their new page is here:

Nice to see them out on tour again, catch it if you can since it is a quick one, although I don't think Tweedy is touring with them. Saw them back in '98(?) when they last did a big tour, and it was a great show.

  • I've downloaded a few Nickel Creek songs and likes some other stuff that I've heard... are you suggesting any album in particular?
  • two notes...

Jason Isbell's "Dress Blues" is absolutely fucking amazing. Sad and genius and everything all together.

Also, anything Brent Best does is incredible.

Kings of Leon, MMJ and Ryan Adams are so great. I can't get enough of southern rock as of late. Possibly my fav genre of music in the world. There is an Australian band called Mexico City who fit this bill quite nicely.

ive not heard their albums but i LOVED their set at lollapalooza. it was so much fun, they are phenomenal musicians.

funny to see ryan adams mentioned so much. i might have to borrow a few albums from my friend, but his lollapalooza sets was one of the biggest disappointments of the weekend. very boring...

Probably "This Side" would be a good one to start with. "Why Should The Fire Die" is good as well, you really can't go wrong with either one. It's all acoustic, but they are great.

If you want to download a couple songs first, I'd recommend:
    Speak
    This Side
    When In Rome
Jealous of the Moon (my favorite at the moment)

Let me know what you think!

  • anyone here heard the new Bonnie Prince Billy?

    it's excellent.

"the seedling" scares the crap out of me. it sounds like something that would be playing as the world exploded or something.
