I was blessed enough to receive a mandolin, a baritone ukulele, and a new harmonica. Never really played any of the above before, but I'm excited about all of them. It's going to be a great year.10/96 Hartford, 9/98 Hartford, 7/03 Mansfield I, 9/04 Boston I, 5/06 Boston I (Best crowd to date)0

Not really a present, but I bought myself a Hughes & Kettner Statesman Dual EL84 combo amp. The spring reverb isn't working sadly, so getting it sent back on the 10th for repairs, but it sounds sweet.Paul

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0

Rarely did I not roll the bass roll off all the way up (clearly I'm a single coil guy) but man... the fender type Jfet circuits.... are brilliant.

sounds very good. open and pretty ballsy. i was expecting mellower since it's based on a little amp but it's surprisingly meaty.0 -

The Heavy Metal Vault CD set, interesting.
Slash's biography
Into the Wild soundtrack
Bought myself Raising Sand
We have a trip to the US coming in a few weeks, so there was no point in paying Oz prices for stuff, when a shop-a-thon is imminent.

You must be a lawyer, doctor, stock broker, computer guy, or maybe your
family is just independently wealthy?
I remember buying a ton of gear like that a few years ago, mind you it was
for my job, not just because I wanted to show my expensive gear (and the
great thing was that I was able to write it all off that year).
Unfortunately those days are past now that Sony® isn't writing me as many
checks (I wish I still had the disposable income).
Good for you, glad you're doing well enough to afford it.
My '59 Les Paul Junior never got played (which is why I sold it), though I still
use my '67 Dlx Rvb (Blackface), '67-Plexi (1959-SuperLead), and '66 JTM-45
(1987-Mark-II) from time to time - still sound great after all these years, but
they're expensive to get worked on, which is why I don't use them as much.

Nah... typical middle-class family man with a decent job and some savings. I've been buying selling gear for quite some time and each upgrade cost a bit more then the next but it has worked out OK for me. Been playing in bands for about 6 or so years and had some years where I could write-off some gear but for the most part just a hobby and I'm a vintage nut as well. What I didn't post was all the gear I sold to get the stuff I bought recently. I don't stockpile guitars and amps. The collection is relatively small but yes, very nice. Check out this verified brazilian R9 at Maverick Music:
http://www.maverick-music.com/scripts/vintage-guitars.asp?idproduct=1556
In '03 that guitar was around $3800... today, you couldn't get one below $7500. Investment grade, to say the least. I recently sold it which allowed me to get some of the gear you saw. These are the same guys who sold the Peter Green Burst for 1.4 million...
BTW... Nice junior you had there. Is that a cali case that's pictured with it? Those are $3K by themselves! Those amps are sweet also. If that superlead and JTM 45 are all original (trannies, etc.) then you should do very well in 10yrs time. Good stuff....0
