Now Live - Red Mosquito App v1.3.0

Red Mosquito v1.3 is live — first slice of the Stats Engine update

    Hey all,

Pushed v1.3 to the App Store and Google Play today. This includes a Stats Engine update. Upcoming releases will add a Show Score to every show, surface song trends, and publish the actual methodology so the math isn't a black box.

v1.3 is live now for Android users and should be available for Apple users within 48 hours.

Here's what landed in this one:

NEW badge for Dark Matter songs. Tracks from Dark Matter now get a gold "NEW" tag while the tour is still "active". When the next tour kicks off, they'll roll into their real frequency tier. Otherwise Dark Matter (the song) gets stuck in Ultra Rare just because the data set is young — which isn't really what "rare" should mean.

Staple threshold tightened to 40% (was 50%). New Staples joining the club:

    • Given to Fly

    • Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town

    • Why Go

    • Rearviewmirror

Sitting alongside Even Flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Better Man, Corduroy, Porch, Daughter, and Do the Evolution.

Filter by tier. Tap any rarity pill on the Songs screen or a Show Detail to filter. The new gold NEW pill works the same way.

Bug fix: if you'd marked 50+ shows as attended, your "unique songs heard" count on Profile was silently undercounting. Now correct.

    Get it:

What's next: Show Score — a 0–100 rating for any setlist — plus a published methodology page. I'm designing the scoring formula right now and would genuinely like input: what makes a 100-point setlist for you? Rare songs? Deep cuts? Energy? Sequencing? A perfect curveball? Drop thoughts in the comments.

    Cheers 🤙

Data validation check needed for the RedMosquito database....

Anyone know, for sure, the last time WMA was played in full? I have it as only 18 full plays and the last time was July 25, 2022.  When I look at the breakdown between times played (18) and appeared as a tag only (103), I was surprised to see that split.

☝️it seems the math behind the App has changed the status of the 11 DM songs because the time since release has changed and passed the mark that is set to trigger this action.

DM songs are rare and ultra rare songs now.

Edit: or the math was changed via manual update of the app

+ minus two songs since May 9th.😉 somehow

A correction needs addressed. I know I  must be low key pathetic but it's been bothering me for close to a year.  The night 2 show in Pittsburgh has Little Wing placed as a tag. I thought somehow in my fever dream of that show I  must have not remembered it correctly and my concept of time was distorted. I have since listened to the versions of San Diego 2009 Charlottesville 2013 and Tampa 2016. The Pittsburgh version is a full minute longer than all of them. How can that be a tag? I believe it was a unique individual song and needs to be corrected. 27 songs were played that night not 26. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. I'm sure I will sleep much better.

    **Red Mosquito v1.5.1** Released

Hey everyone — just shipped **Red Mosquito v1.5.1** to both stores and wanted to share what's in it.

    ## The big one: live show tracking 🔴

This is the feature I built this release around, with Ohana 2026 in mind:

    - **Pulsing LIVE badge** — when Pearl Jam is on stage, the show lights up with a live red badge right on the Shows tab

    - **Real-time setlists** — open the show's page while it's happening and songs appear automatically as the band plays them. No refreshing, no waiting for someone to post the setlist after the encore. You watch it build song by song.

The Sept 27 Doheny show is already in the app as SCHEDULED. When the band walks out, it goes live.

    ## iOS users: this is a BIG update

Real talk — the iOS app has been stuck on v1.2 for a few months due to a delay in developer account verification. That's resolved, and iOS jumps straight from v1.2 to v1.5.1 in one shot.

Here's everything you're catching up on:

    - **My Stats redesigned** — Most-Seen Song, Rarest Heard, Biggest Year, Albums

Discovered Live. Tap any card to drill into it.

    - **My Albums** — personalized album cards built from the shows you've attended

    - **Refreshed show pages** — tap any concert poster to flip it over and see the handwritten setlist photo (where available), plus rarity filter stamps to spot the bust-outs

    - **Refreshed UI** across the whole app + a new animated splash

    - **What's New screen** — in-app changelog so you can see exactly what changed, including setlist corrections (and who spotted them)

    ## What's under the hood

1,100+ Pearl Jam shows, 23,000+ setlist entries, 600+ songs with a 6-tier rarity system, 700+ venues. Track which shows you were at and the app builds your personal Pearl Jam history — your songs, your venues, your countries, your rarest catches.

    - **Android**: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.redmosquito.app

More coming soon. See you at Ohana.

    Dark Matter Rarity Update

Rarity fix: Dark Matter songs now flagged NEW

Thanks to u/samus252 for reporting this one.

    The issue

Dark Matter songs were being assigned standard rarity tiers based on career play frequency. Frequency rarity is calculated as total plays ÷ total shows, which doesn't account for how long a song has been in live rotation. A recent song in heavy rotation ends up scoring the same as a long-dormant catalog song with an equal play count.

    Example:

    • Dark Matter — 43 live plays, debuted May 2024

    • Satan's Bed — 42 live plays, debuted April 1994

Near-identical counts, but one spans 2 years and the other 32. Not comparable rarity.

    The fix

Songs on the current studio album (Dark Matter) now carry a NEW designation and are excluded from frequency-based ranking. That designation persists until a newer studio album drops, at which point those songs re-enter standard rarity scoring with a multi-year play history to score against.

    Known limitation

Rarity ranking currently weights every performance equally and doesn't account for song tenure — time since first performance. I'm planning to add recency/age weighting so a song's era factors into its rarity.

Thanks again to u/samus252 for the catch.
