I signed up for “all the games” on ESPN app.  Tried to watch Opening Game and … find out i have to download another app and fuccckkk thissss ….  thank goodness hardcore baseball fan don’t really care about opening day

Scene from MLB 2026 offseason marketing and fan relations conference….

I listened to the entire game on the radio. From various articles and sports talk radio, it seems like the telecast was not good, notably they missed the first ABS challenge as it was happening.

baseball is a not a sport for streaming.  baseball is a regional sport for the most part and random fans are not going to a streaming platform to watch teams they are not fans of.  understand your audience.  almost all baseball much prefer to watch their teams on the local broadcasts. does anyone really care when their teams are on nationally?   i think it's similar to hockey in this way.  NFL and international soccer are really the only professional sports where streaming works in my opinion.

Kay said on the Yankees broadcast that of the over 400 plus players that they had to measure for the ABS system, over 200 of their heights changed. Most got shorter.

for some reason, I don’t like the ABS system. I think I’d like it when the incorrect calls are egregious but I’m fine with an ump missing a call by half an inch.

Exactly.  A pitcher, whom doesn't have much advantage anymore, won't be able to "expand" the strike zone.

I hated Greg Maddux but he was the master of that. He’s a douche but I gotta give him his props.

Expanding the zone to make the hitter chase is good.
The strike zone growing is kinda bullshit.

Let's see how this plays out

I like it I think.  I have watched it for a few years in the Minors.  It was very subtle, and if you werent paying attention, you would barely know it happened.  It seemed to seamlessly fit right into the fabric of the game.

The major hoopla around it is a turnoff.  The telecast makes a huge deal out of it, and unlike MiLB, the umpire turns around and has to announce it (which takes like 5-10 extra seconds).  My recollection in MiLB, the batter taps his helmet, the ump took a step to the side, the scoreboard showed the result, ump made the correct call, move on.

Also, do the Marlins start out 5-1 every season? (or at least win their first few series)

Why bother to even have an ump then? Just get rid of them altogether.  Let the robots do the calls.  Play it out until the replay confirms.

Watch what that shitbag CB Buckner is doing.
    Seriously, fuck that guy.
He gets paid to he an umpire and has been an absolute joke for years.
It is time for MLB to see what they sre paying for.
The review of someone "not stepping on first" earlier this year should be a lifelong suspension.
    He sucks.
    So hard.
