Matter of Time
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder committed to curing epidermolysis bullosa (EB) after a friend gave birth to a son with the painful condition. In 2023, the rock star held a series of benefit concerts in Seattle to highlight the work of the EB Research Partnership. The story of those concerts and Vedder's philanthropic efforts is highlighted in Matter of Time. While mostly an advocacy film, the movie still tugs at your heartstrings in the way all good rock ballads do.

It’s incredible my favorite music artist and his wife took this cause on.
My friend Jessica had EB. She’s been gone for many years now. EB is the worst disease I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. When she was here, we'd pick her up in my wheelchair van and go all over the place. She taught me so much. Video of Jessica when was on the local news:*~Pearl Jam will be blasted from speakers until morale improves~*0 -

We’ve been fortunate to support and align ourselves with amazing people and organizations. One of those organizations is the EBRP. It’s been a few years now since we’ve started working with them and have been nothing but amazed by the work they are doing and the community it has created. There is no better way to explain this work they are doing than by watching this film that came out recently on @netflix called Matter of Time @matteroftimefilm. A local Toronto director by the name of Matt Finlin and his team made this powerful and informative documentary. I had the pleasure of moderating a board filled with some amazing people at the Toronto screening. If you have a moment and would like to learn more about what Epidermolysis Bullosa is, please watch. The work that Michael Hund and what Jill and Eddie Vedder are doing is truly inspiring in so many ways. This cause is very near and dear to my heart as someone in my close family has EB and I witness the struggle and heartache that goes along with that. The team at EBRP are well on their way to curing this thing. Much love to you and yours. 🦋♥️

Here in the UK the charity is called DEBRA. It's vice president is ex footballer Graeme Souness who raised over £1m by swimming the English Channel.
Would be great if Ed did a couple of Albert Hall shows or something for DEBRA

When @pearljam met Bono years ago, the band got a lesson in how to channel rage to effect real change.
@eddievedder has brought those learnings to his EB Research Partnership organization he started with his wife Jill.
Eddie and director @mattfinlin joined @tomjoepower to talk about their new film, Matter of Time, which documents their efforts to raise money and awareness for the life-threatening skin disease Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Currently available on NETFLIX, MATTER OF TIME is a compelling documentary chronicling the fight to cure Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare and devastating genetic disease. Set against the backdrop of a powerful benefit concert organized by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder in Seattle, the film weaves together personal stories of patients and families, the scientific breakthroughs propelled by their advocacy, and the strength of a global community refusing to accept the status quo. Far more than a concert film, Matter of Time captures the emotional and physical toll of EB, the radical model of venture philanthropy driving progress, and the belief that art, science, and love can fuel a cure. With an original score by Broken Social Scene and candid interviews from all sides of the movement, the film is a rallying cry for what’s possible when people come together—with urgency and heart—for something bigger than themselves. Director Matt Finlin stops by to talk about the Vedder family contribution to something that feels increasingly doable, and getting to know Deanna, Eli, Charlie, Rowan, Garrett and the researchers who have dedicated their work to ending the crippling impact of Epidermolysis Bullosa.
About the filmmaker - Matt Finlin is a Toronto-based director and producer known for crafting ] ] emotionally resonant stories that intersect art, social impact, and cultural memory. With a background in both documentary and commercial filmmaking, Finlin has spent over a decade building a body of work that reflects his deep interest in human connection, creative expression, and the power of storytelling to inspire real-world change. His first feature-length documentary, The Movie Man, premiered at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival and was praised for its heartfelt portrayal of a small-town cinema owner’s life, legacy, and love of film. Distributed by Mongrel Media, the film went on to screen at festivals across North America and aired on TCM and PBS. Finlin has collaborated extensively with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and EB Research Partnership, using film to amplify awareness around Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and accelerate efforts to find a cure.

For over a decade, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder has been quietly fighting for a cure for EB.
Together with his wife, Jill Vedder, and a dedicated group of parents, he set up @ebresearch.
Now he has brought EB to the big screen through his rock documentary: Matter of Time and you can watch it here in Ireland on Netflix.
Matter of Time is more than music. It shows the reality of living with EB.
Behind every bandage is a person. A child. A family.
EB doesn’t recognise borders. A child born with EB in Ireland faces the same daily pain, the same challenges, the same fight as a child anywhere else in the world.
Right now, there is no treatment or cure. But there is hope - and it exists because people choose to care.
If you can, please watch it. Share it. And help more people understand EB. 🦋
