The gane was just too early for me - i considered getting up but fell asleep again almost immediately... and then when I finally did wake up and checked the news, I was glad I didn't watch, because i would have been even more bummed out about the outcome. I am actually really surprised by the fact that I l've been as disappointed as I have been by both hockey losses! Boooooo!
It’s never fun watching a team you’re rooting for lose. Especially against a rival. As a Rangers and Mets fan, I’m used to it I guess.

I must’ve watched that goal 500 times. What a play on the tip pass by Hughes before he gets down ice to end the game. The devils are a rival but Hughes is a player I’ll love forever going forward. Just unbelievable.

I’m a bit different I was not rooting against Canada or rooting for USA am I happy USA won yes am I over the moon happy no! I was in my twenties when the miracle on ice happened that was when I had all of my emotions rooting for America! These days I don’t feel the same patriotism at all

I live in Long Beach where McAvoy is from so the bars ere opened early for the game.

I carried a Jack Hughes rc card in my shirt pocket for good luck.

Not saying that’s  why they won but it was pretty cool to show my friends after he scored!

Can Nathan Mackinnon cope harder? Not the best look for someone who missed a wide open  net and was right there for the game winning goal against.

    He’s definitely going through it.

I read the full quote. That sentence says more than the generic sports talk he surrounded it with. He’s bitter but he has no one to blame but himself.

It was one of the best games of all time.

Mackinnon’s not wrong, Canada outplayed the US overall but 3 of the top 4 NHL points leaders had glorious chances and they couldn’t put it away. Hellebuyck was incredible. The too many men non call was a total joke though. The reffing was terrible overall. They call Thoedore with the softest hook for the first penalty and then don’t call the same when McDavid is in alone and takes a hook in the hands. Assuming they let it go because Canada had a 5 on 3 shortly before but Guentzel and Mcivoys penalties were obvious ones just like Bennetts high stick. Either let them play or call it all.

Once the game went to 3 on 3, it’s basically a coin flip. It could’ve been over a minute earlier if Binnington doesn’t rob Quinn Hughes.

    Hell of a Hockey game.

I was glad to see the USA win, but I'm not a fan of 3 on 3 to decide the Gold Medal.

How about Brock Nelson who had relatives on the Gold Medal USA teams in 1960 & 1980?

yeah, I guess anything that the losing side says will come off as "bitter" to some, but I see it as frustration that they basically danced around the US and Helle was a one man show. Which is frustrating as FUCK as a Jets fan, watching him in last year's playoffs. lol. He's right, the Canadians were the better team, Helle was the better goalie. Believe me, it's been the same when it's my team. He's bailed out the choking Jets more times than I can count. (just not in playoffs-did I mention that? lol).

3 on 3 to decide it is as dumb as a shootout. Once it went to OT, I told my wife "this will be over in 2 minutes". I know some say Canada would have won had it been 5 on 5. No way to know that, kind of silly to say to be honest. Helle was 5 guys in net at once. No reason to believe he would have been different in OT. But the Canadian coach was right. There's a reason they don't do 3 on 3 or shootouts in playoffs. It is what it is. It always benefits one team, this time it wasn't mine.

I think what is kind of getting to me is that the americans are proclaiming this some kind of changing of the guard. Um, you scored 1 more goal that we did. In one game. Settle down. lol

I’m a Leafs fan so I have decades of experience with this. I’m happy for Matthews and the Johnny Gaudreau tributes were amazing. When it comes to the game, it’s so true, 3 on 3 just isn’t the same. I wanted the Sweden vs US game to continue, same with Canada vs. Czechia. For how good the hockey was, it deserved more than a 2 minute 3 on 3. Its pond hockey shinny, it’s fine for regular season OT but deciding the biggest game on the biggest stage sucks, no matter who wins. Canada probably had the edge in OT when you can rollout the top 2 scorers and top defensemen in the game. Even 4 on 4 like they did in the Vancouver Olympics would’ve been better. The Americans came up clutch when it mattered most, Canada didn’t. It’s as simple as that. US are as close to Canada as they’ve ever been and going into the Olympics I felt it was a toss up, this is the gold medal game I was hoping for. But after watching that game, I still think there is a gap and a lot of countries are closing the gap which is great for the game overall.
  • 100%. I enjoy olympic hockey so much more than NHL. Even playoffs. If any
tournament deserved a “best of” format, it’s this. Obviously can’t in a 2 week span, but man so many of those games could have gone either way.

Let’s frame this if Canada won that game there’s zero chance the head of intelligence for Canada would have been seen acting like a fool in the locker room with the team Zero chance!

If we could get USA basketball to have this much enthusiasm we would still be the best in the world.  That gap is closing.

I agree,  although I did not watch any live Olympic coverage,  only highlights that were on the news.
I find the Olympics to be as corrupt and as hypocritical as FIFA and the world cup.

In Canada all of the attention was put on the men's hockey. A silver medal is still a great accomplishment.

I feel bad for the Canadian gold medalists as well as all of the other medalist who do not get near the same attention.

I think that can never be undone now.  It will never be an amateur thing again.

Like Usain Bolt or the snowboarding team, the atheletes have to make money.

Not everyone can be Alysa Liu and do things on their own terms.

I didn't get to watch the women's game, was a busy weekend. But watched the men's.
I kind of like the 3x3 OT. Puts a lot more pressure on, and when it's been a low scoring game, prevents multiple OTs that last forever.
Men's USA semi final was another great game. I only watch hockey every 4 years, might have to start watching more.
