I wish all “big” hockey games played 5 on 5 overtime but nonetheless that was one of the greatest games I’ve ever watched!!  What a game and what a story for USA!

Let’s frame this if Canada won that game there’s zero chance the head of intelligence for Canada would have been seen acting like a fool in the locker room with the team Zero chance!

People were just discussing that in my office lunch room. Everyone was talking about how ridiculous and irritating and stupid it is, and how shit like that is what has made Canada's losses particularly hard to take.

Even so, he wasn't trying to dismantle democracy. I wouldn't say Patel's mere presence alone was the problem - it's everything he currently does and represents.

If we could get USA basketball to have this much enthusiasm we would still be the best in the world.  That gap is closing.
The World, maybe, but name a Country that is close to over-taking the USA?

Yes, a Country here and there can win in a Best of 1, but I don't think there's a Country that would come close to beating USA in a Best of 7.

100%. I enjoy olympic hockey so much more than NHL. Even playoffs. If any
tournament deserved a “best of” format, it’s this. Obviously can’t in a 2 week span, but man so many of those games could have gone either way.
    I agree .

I was really looking forward to Olympic Hockey too with NHL players back (Best vs Best) and it did not disappoint.

I don't watch as much NHL like I used too but I'll watch the World JR. s every year.

Olympic Games should exclude professional athletes period!
I think that can never be undone now.  It will never be an amateur thing again.

Like Usain Bolt or the snowboarding team, the atheletes have to make money.

Not everyone can be Alysa Liu and do things on their own terms.
For one, countries like Russia would just rig the system and have their players be “trash men” on paper or something while they train full time.
And I say who cares. Should be the best athletes competing, doesn’t matter if you’re pro. Some pro athletes make millions, other sports barely make enough to be a living. We wouldnt want to have to take away Jim Thorpe’s medals again anyway. Let them play.
  • yeah, Olympics is best of the best. doesn't matter if they are pro or amateur in their particular country. that's why it sucks when NHL'ers aren't in it.

Totally agree. When it isn't NHLers we're literally just watching players who specifically aren't good enough for the NHL, lol. That definitely doesn't give us the best of the best.

The olympic tournament normally disappoints and only remains memorable if the US and Canada end up in the gold medal game.  This tournament was pretty drab until the knockout round.

The US players are taking a lot of shit locally for their frat boy antics and allowing Trump to co-opt their victory.

I realize that probably 100% of the US team are huge trump fans.  Super wealthy with ultra-privileged families and upbringings....  but really should leave the red hats at home.  The misogynistic joke on the phone call also goes over like a fart in church.

Coming from an American…it was an unbelievable game, moment and gold medal performance that hasn’t happened in 46 years. I hate that it is being politicized under a fucking microscope and some people aren’t happy. Cant we just enjoy an amazing victory and celebration?   Anyway, congrats to the USA mens and women’s hockey teams for bringing home the gold

    No. Not allowed.

I agree with everything you said. I’m still in shock from what I witnessed. I’m a die hard rangers fan but Hughes will forever be a favorite player of mine going forward. The way he handled himself on and off the ice is great to witness.

I was reading this about someone being a frat boy.  The leader of the FBI acting like a jackass as if HE won the gold?  Dear lord man.  I'm glad I didn't see that when it did happen.

Co-opted is how shit gets now.
The head of the FBI flies to the Olympics?
    Wha?

These fucking leaches cannot stop trying to find a way to make things about them

Also, hockey players are not known for their intelligence.   They run with baseball players for the bottom of that scale based on my experience.
(Coming from a pretty big fan of hockey since I was a pup.)

    Overall?
Give yer balls a tug, America!

Also...still bummed Fiala is out for season.  That hurts my favorite squadron

It’s just as annoying when celebrities are in the locker room celebrating. Like they’re part of the team.

    To highlight the difference:

When the US beat the Soviet Union in 1980, Herb Brooks walked off the bench and went into the locker room alone. He let the team have their moment celebrating on the ice.

I was disappointed/happy that Nike (Fanatics?) didn’t think the USA was going to win and didn’t have any jerseys available.  Just think about how much money they could have made right after the game …. Even if they had a “out-of-stock / wait time until available” option, people would have ordered them.

Saved me $300 for a jersey that probably cost $9 to make.  I’m too old to buy jerseys anyway.
