This is a legit question. How much time will they need to get the new drummer up to speed? What about the deeper cuts like U, Leatherman or All Or None?

There's just so, so many questions right now. And who's to say the band has even been together much since Pittsburgh? I really get the feeling that it's sort of a "Metallica thing" whereas James doesn't even live in California when they're not together. I wouldn't be surprised if the guys scatter to the wind for months on end, especially following a tour.
A drummer doesn't have to learn the entire catalogue at once. When they decide on a tour, the band - but probably really Ed - creates a roster of whatever number of songs. The drummer learns these ones and the band focuses on rehearsing that roster. If during a tour Ed decides to throw in the occasional deep cut, they'll rehearse and the drummer will learn those particular songs.
This almost guarantees no more Grievance moment for the foreseeable future.

I’ve always assumed that this is what they’ve always done after a tour.

As far as the drummer goes.  Whatever drummer made it down to the final cut is going to be capable of learning the catalog.   They’re not going to pick someone who isn’t up to the challenge as far as skill goes.  So it’s assumed that anyone on the final list can handle playing whatever song they need them to. I think that once they get down to a couple names, the final decision is probably all about personality and fit with the band.

I would expect the drummer has been selected and is well underway on learning the material.  Obviously they aren’t going to be like Matt right away with the ability to instantly recall and audible to any song without notice but I am sure a great variety of songs will be played.  Can’t wait for news of any dates.

The Notre Dame football team plays a game vs Wisconsin at Lambeau Field on Sunday, Sep 6, and it will likely be a featured prime time national broadcast. A lot of the students will attend the game and be gone from campus. I would be surprised if the university scheduled a concert in Notre Dame Stadium for that evening.

Counter point:  a perfect time for a show by a band that virtually none of the students have heard of, and even fewer care about, without overpopulating the area.

    A few thoughts:

My son knows Pearl Jam and would go to the show, as would a lot of other students who have parents around my age.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, there's an AC/DC show in the stadium on Friday, Sep 4. This year, ND did one stadium concert in the fall and has one scheduled for spring 2026. The AC/DC show will be only the 6th concert ever hosted in the stadium from what I can tell, and the university has never done more than one show at a time.

Mostly though, I'm having trouble imagining the university scheduling any major programming opposite a football game, home or away, particularly one that's likely to have an exclusive primetime TV window.

My guess is that the ND Stadium rumor, if true, will be on a different weekend, or at least a different night.

All of that being said, I have zero inside information, and you and the other sources on this board may be right and I may be wrong.

Missoula has a special atmosphere, going back for sure if they play there some day again.

They need to do couple of Seattle baseball stadium shows again like in 2018, that was the last tour they played 3.5h and that Aug 10th gig was in my top 5 of all time shows I've seen.

As we’re freezing our bumpers, I’m desperately waiting from them to give us some updates about drummer, tour, or even new stuff. I know they said they were taking a break and about to go rehearse by the beginning of 2026, but that makes me excited 😂

Probably more instructive to focus on capacity vs defining stadium. Missoula is about 25k and the ballparks roughly 40k. Notre Dame you're talking 80k which is even north of Soldier Field. That's a big show.

I enjoyed last spring's arena shows so much I'd rather not do outdoor shows, especially considering how wet it was in Raleigh.
And if they decide to play a few fall shows in, say, the Midwest, all we need to remember is the ice bowl show from 2000...

I'm down for whatever....Notre Dame would be awesome, but I don't see that happening.  Either way, the only thing I want is SOME tidbit of info soon.   Drummer, tour, studio work, EV solo, anything.  Just drop me some info.

Yeah, well how about you infer something that suggests ND stadium August 29 or some time in June/July instead? Thanks, K!

Just chiming in with some "not-rumors"😅

    - Notre Dame ain't happening. It's nowhere close to being a real thing, just some harmless armchair booking. Would be cool! But not happening.

    - Some say a drummer is locked, some say we're still at 4 plus Josh & Boom. Plans change, people change. But one thing's for sure, as of the holiday season, everyone is scattered to the wind.

    - As for tour-related hopes, we have only 3 scenarios. It starts with the band practicing with a new drummer through Spring & Summer. Then we'll either get:

    • something similar to 2021. Three or 4 shows, all festival. Just to grease the wheels.

    Or

    • a quick 10 or 11, like last year (or 2023). See how they all do with the new drummer in a live environment.

    Or

    • practice gets mixed with studio time, and we get an announcement later in the year. New album, new drummer, dates in 2027. An off year.

Obviously, that can ALL happen, but I think they're enjoying the down time. As well as their families.

In the meantime, there are no solid tour rumors. We're all just fantasy booking. Nothing wrong with that, as I've made numerous threads proposing whole-ass tours in the past😅

The waiting is the hardest part...
