  • All Paul Thomas Anderson films on 35- or 70mm this spring at the Swedish Film Institute program. In Stockholm.

Hopefully Magnolia will find its way to the west coast programme. Together with the planned 35mm showings of:

The Last House on the Left
    Pinocchio (Disney)
    En kärlekshistoria (”A Love Story”)
    Rebecca

Yeah, I was intrigued by the trailer, but skeptical.

Ugh, something was wrong with the IMAX, so they gave us a full refund, plus a VIP pass for any movie, no expiration date, and let us watch it in a different theater.  Unsatisfying.  There is absolutely no reason to waste your time seeing an Avatar movie in anything but IMAX 3D.  But we have free passes to see again in IMAX down the road.

Fairly certain I saw it when I was young, but definitely not since the 80s. Frank Darabont also co-wrote it with him. While some effects are a little iffy, over all some gnarly practical stuff on display. Kevin Dillon’s haircut is hilarious. Was definitely a fun 90 minutes and the final scene teases an interesting sequel idea, but I don’t think anyone followed up on that!

Had wanted to watch The Proposition for a while. Brutal, bleak western. Nick Cave soundtrack is great.

  • Never saw this in the theater and my loss. This was great. All three leads are stellar (and sadly have passed on). Graham Greene was particularly good, but he always is. Roger Deakins is the cinematographer, and the shots are beautiful. Assuming they shot in the Dakotas, the landscape is stunning, and back in the day when all the sunsets were real. Nothing digital with this.
