I don’t think people are necessarily pro socialism as they are pro putting limits and constraints on transnational capital and trying to recreate the policies that once allowed for more upward mobility.  But now that those common sense policies have been repealed in the name of short term profit year after year, anyone even mentioning pumping the breaks or reigning things in gets labeled as some kind of socialist.  We wouldn’t even be here if not for western capital sending jobs away, government cutting taxes for the rich, and expecting people to live in austerity in order to build wealth.  The wealthy broke the system and they should have to pay more to fix it.

Without getting too much into details, Mamdani is targeting a select few taxpayers to fund $9 billion in new govt spending, not counting the tripling to the debt load and related service costs he wants to incur. It’s a very easy tax to avoid, which puts the city at risk of default. Although the Rs just passed a terrible tax law benefiting the rich, the USA does have one of the most progressive tax structures in the world. And literally, Mamdani has said he was a socialist and believes seizing the means of production was the end goal of his political ideology.

But you were talking about the popularity of socialism and no one defending capitalism.  If capitalism worked the way it is and has been advertised, no one would be voting for anyone that was calling for the seizing of the means of production.  Unfortunately capitalism has been failing the last several generations and billionaires and business have taken larger and larger control of the government.  Most people have no way to get ahead in a meaningful way as did previous generations. So of course they are looking for different options, because the one that they were sold from birth is failing anyone born after 1980 that doesn’t have any kind of generational wealth to fall back on.

We are on a website where possibly hundreds of users travel the face of the earth, spending tens of thousands, to see a rock band. Year after year. We have a new era of consumer goods that sell sleep aid products start at $3000 plus… wait for it…..a monthly fee of $40. To name just two things that can be viewed as evidence of successful generation and country

I agree we have too many in poverty but let’s not pretend America is not the ultimate land of opportunity. Let’s decide not to judge this country by those who have failed to take advantage of free or low cost education options to get better employment, but instead by those who did and have become successful. But that’s not saying we shouldn’t be trying to help folks left behind. We should.
    damn...you really don't get it

It’s incredible the left gets to make accusations without substance, without facts and without support.

NY absolutely offers free college to those in need. I’d appreciate truth and honesty if anyone chooses to misrepresent facts in response to my comments. Thank you.

Gotta disappear, I’ve got an Asian tour to scope out.

Pressed, lol. The supervisor told us to chill, pal.

nice reply up there that if the  governments just took the $49T wealth you were complaining about it’d last four years, and  there’d be no more wealth to tax.

Easier to joke and play strawman than understand fiscal policy…for good reason voters don’t trust the left with economics. It’s all jibberish to the left.

And like the rest of your silly arguments you assume the world is a static place, where nothing ever changes, or that straw man arguments of taxing at a rate of 100% exist and that future wealth will never be created.

To be fair, JD Vance said it was the fault of illegal immigrants.  Yes, they are taking away your 300k homes thanks to their high paying roofing jobs.

“A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive,” the vice president said. “Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought, by right, go to American citizens.”

Now we’re up to 30 million illegals? Do I hear 40? Anyone got 40? Going once, going twice………….

I’m sure we’ll hear 60 million were deported in one year.

This is an angle I thought about and it does hold some merit.

If section 8 housing or low income housing is being used to help the migrants/etc then sure.

In regality it's places like Fairfield, AirBNB and Vrbo that have placed more damage on the housing market than the migrants have.

How would section 8 housing used for migrants affect the housing supply and prices?  Plus Vance didn't make some macro argument of downstream effects.  He said "..who were taking houses that ought, by right, go to American citizens".

The actual effect is that we are taking away laborers needed to build.

Very easily.  More migrants need more housing.  With the housing deficit anything going towards that would make supply lower.  I said if that is the angle he was going for sure. But apparently not.

We have plenty of labor to build houses, that's a bullshit excuse why supply is low. I mentioned why supply is actually low and raised prices.  Corporations bought tons of houses taking them away from the public.

Corps are buying existing homes.  Why aren't builders building new homes?  Is it really just zoning and red tape?  That seems unlikely.

Second, I still down understand how section 8 housing would drive up the cost of buying a home?  You are talking about two explicitly different economic classes here.  Are you saying that people moving into section 8 are driving other people out of it, and those people are then buying homes?  That doesn't make much sense.  If you are section 8, you can't afford a home.  Maybe there's some third order effect, but I've never seen an argument that passes of the sniff test of being material.

Private equity is buying up homes although I think the number is less than 4%.  Investors in general, are buying about 25% of available inventory though.  Certainly these numbers drive up the price for those that are looking to buy and actually live there.

In some housing markets, such as desired metropolitan areas of major cities such as Atlanta or Denver, for example, the share owned by PE can be as high as 12%. For mobile home parks, the share can be higher. Again, it depends on the market area and housing sector but to not include PE in the discussion is a disservice.

Nah, cutting interest rates to a record low in 2021, reducing aggregate mortgage payments by $26b had nothing to do with the problem.

Jiggs, they’ll just never see a problem with too much govt intervention.

Nearly 60% of all mortgages  today are locked in at below 4%. No one’s giving those rates up. The govt intervened and we have a decade or two of less housing inventory. At least y’all can blame 45 for that.

maybe just maybe, there will be one light bulb to go off here.
