I don’t think people are necessarily pro socialism as they are pro putting limits and constraints on transnational capital and trying to recreate the policies that once allowed for more upward mobility.  But now that those common sense policies have been repealed in the name of short term profit year after year, anyone even mentioning pumping the breaks or reigning things in gets labeled as some kind of socialist.  We wouldn’t even be here if not for western capital sending jobs away, government cutting taxes for the rich, and expecting people to live in austerity in order to build wealth.  The wealthy broke the system and they should have to pay more to fix it.

Without getting too much into details, Mamdani is targeting a select few taxpayers to fund $9 billion in new govt spending, not counting the tripling to the debt load and related service costs he wants to incur. It’s a very easy tax to avoid, which puts the city at risk of default. Although the Rs just passed a terrible tax law benefiting the rich, the USA does have one of the most progressive tax structures in the world. And literally, Mamdani has said he was a socialist and believes seizing the means of production was the end goal of his political ideology.

But you were talking about the popularity of socialism and no one defending capitalism.  If capitalism worked the way it is and has been advertised, no one would be voting for anyone that was calling for the seizing of the means of production.  Unfortunately capitalism has been failing the last several generations and billionaires and business have taken larger and larger control of the government.  Most people have no way to get ahead in a meaningful way as did previous generations. So of course they are looking for different options, because the one that they were sold from birth is failing anyone born after 1980 that doesn’t have any kind of generational wealth to fall back on.

The Flex Loan, a new type of payday loan pioneered by Advance Financial in Tennessee, allows residents to borrow up to $4,000 at a 279.5% interest rate.

It has burdened low-income borrowers while generating huge profits for lenders.

I thought there were anti-predatory laws passed about this?
In Tennessee, they passed a law that allows "fees" to be charged daily, just like interest.  But it's reclassified.
    The ol' loophole eh?

Look at California.  They have high gas prices and housing costs too.  That is how they pay for everything there.

We will see uptick in pricing for goods in NYC soon enough to pay for those things.

We are on a website where possibly hundreds of users travel the face of the earth, spending tens of thousands, to see a rock band. Year after year. We have a new era of consumer goods that sell sleep aid products start at $3000 plus… wait for it…..a monthly fee of $40. To name just two things that can be viewed as evidence of successful generation and country

I agree we have too many in poverty but let’s not pretend America is not the ultimate land of opportunity. Let’s decide not to judge this country by those who have failed to take advantage of free or low cost education options to get better employment, but instead by those who did and have become successful. But that’s not saying we shouldn’t be trying to help folks left behind. We should.

Funny how you complain about data sourcing but dont provide any.

you can take the entirety of that $49T and fund the govt, federal and local, for a grand total of four years. Maybe.

All your comments do is misunderstand my points. I have no issue with the feds charging two percent extra. As I’ve said a trillion times, the problem is when localities go too far. For trillions of reasons.

That your world view continually needs to ignore in order to survive.

Which brings me to the Healthcare bill that Trump/Republicans have been promising for 10 + years! I get why you just want Democrats to win with a non smearing tactic but you never or at least I have never heard you speak about why Republicans are willing to just let millions of ACA recipients get torpedoed or like you state “Left Behind “

We should.
    damn...you really don't get it

It’s incredible the left gets to make accusations without substance, without facts and without support.

NY absolutely offers free college to those in need. I’d appreciate truth and honesty if anyone chooses to misrepresent facts in response to my comments. Thank you.

My comment was a reply to “capitalism has failed the last few generations and it’s the billionaires fault” if anyone is blaming it’s that comment and yours.

Did anyone say failed to take advantage here? Anyone say lazy? My point was our system has the tools to help. It’s so easy to just shove any discussion to the extreme and then attack the strawman.

Just easier for all of us, left center and right, to stay in our own silos, blame those not like us,  than figure out how to do this better

Pressed, lol. The supervisor told us to chill, pal.

nice reply up there that if the  governments just took the $49T wealth you were complaining about it’d last four years, and  there’d be no more wealth to tax.

Easier to joke and play strawman than understand fiscal policy…for good reason voters don’t trust the left with economics. It’s all jibberish to the left.
