Imagine celebrating a person being let off for throwing an object at an officer?

The sandwich thing is ridiculous and funny but when people can do things like this and have zero consequences is where I have a problem with it.
    Couldn’t agree more. Personal/ political

I agree. Throwing water at police can be considered assault. I don't see how a sandwich isn't.
Also agree the idea is sort of ridiculous and funny, but throwing anything at law enforcement should have consequences.
well....the officer had said that the sandwich "exploded" against his chest initially....that didn't happen

The number of SNAP recipients has zero to do with the retail cost of food. You of course know this (I would certainly hope).
The money to fund SNAP doesn't come from food producers who then in turn raise their prices.

I wonder if any of these people who have such disdain for people on food stamps and welfare would switch with them. Since they have it so easy because they don’t have to pay for anything right?
It’s like saying why do blacks protest police brutality! Unless you walk in a black man’s shoes you not you but general you can’t identify with what that feels like! I’d say it’s about the same thing.
I only disagree because people generally don't ask "why do blacks protest police brutality?" What they ask and don't get is "why did you burn down that privately owned Wendy's and then steal a TV from Walmart to protest police brutality?"
Agreed I’m talking peacefully protesting looters are assholes and opportunists

Dude this is some real childish behavior.  It is not ok to throw a sandwich at anyone, especially an officer of the law.

well....the officer had said that the sandwich "exploded" against his chest initially....that didn't happen
I agree it's a bad look if that's what he said. But it shouldn't matter. Throwing a sandwich at a public officer should have consequences, doesn't;t matter if it stains his shirt or not.
As tempo pointed out, it's also setting the stage for similar actions.
You even just touch an umpire while arguing, or throw your batting gloves at him,  you face serious consequence in MLB. An immediate ejection, possible fines and suspensions. It's not that they are afraid a batting glove is going to hurt an ump, but it sets a bad precident to allow that in a game. Same with real life too. They just told everyone it's okay.

I think assault was the wrong charge. It's disorderly conduct for sure, but assault was a heavy lift in this instance. Definitely should be consequences, but think about what a regular person would get charged with, DC, maybe, but never assault unless the bread was stale and cut them. Some acts while unacceptable, aren't necessarily criminal either.
    It's a hopeless situation...
