Mandatory minimum child pornography sentences unconstitutional, Supreme Court rules

I honestly didn't know there was minimums for this offence.

I am not a fan of Doug Ford either, and am legit worried about him becoming PM someday - I actually think he might have a good shot at it, which is disturbing. But I don't mind saying that I do kind of like how he deals with the Trump issue.

I thought Ford may run for Conservative leader also, but he has too many skeletons. I haven’t voted for him, but I don’t completely hate what he does. The opposition has been fairly weak lately.

on a federal note, I hope the Cons and Bloq do not support the budget and bring down the government.
I believe PP would lose again and be ousted from his party and the Liberals would pick up a majority.
will have to wait and see how PP totally shits on the budget but avoids an election.

I am surprised the conservative party doesn't hold a leadership review.   I'm not sure PP can win an election.  Too many Canadians don't like his style, and the only reason he was going to get a bunch of votes before the US election, was because people trying to oust Trudeau.

It seems weird to me that the Cons would stick with PP when many Canadians won't vote for him, rather then see if they can find another person?

I suppose they could wait a while to see if the same hatred builds up for Carney, but it may not, who knows, but you don't need PP to be leader for that.  Maybe put someone else in charge for closely contested elections.

I agree about PP, but he has to appeal to his base also. I do not care for the people he surrounds himself with. (Scheere, Remple-Gardner)

I have said several times I would look closer at the Cons if they had more reasonable people.

For now I will stick with the guy with the financial background,  not the everything is doom guy.

Kind of funny interview with Rosemary Barton and PP yesterday.  Essentially called him out on him not being able to support the budget with all the negativity he has thrown out.
Now we will see if he backs what he says.

I can't find any info if this is real or not. If it is, this is pretty clear proof of trumpy type politics.

200+ days and still no constituency office for the PM, what a shining example of representative democracy!

The Cons would be idiots not to support the budget right now, because of the reasons you just said, and because at the moment, people trust Carney with the economy in the face of Trump's tariff farce. Plus, Canadians are simply not up for another election, at all. If PP thinks yet another election would be good for him right now, then he'd be proven delusional. I actually don't think he's that stupid, but he is really egotistical, so maybe?

It’s honestly hilarious how this thread is so focused on the Opposition and rarely, if ever, criticizes the sitting government. I suppose when the CPC forms government again then the government will be criticized. Thankfully I’m on my way out after my recent experience here, so I’ll say again, enjoy wallowing in your hatred.

The Liberals sold people a false bill of goods in the election (elbows up, fear Poilievre’s capitulation, not a mention of Palestinian statehood), and I recognize how difficult it is to recognize and admit when one has been suckered, Carney’s been among Trump’s chief cockgobblers since the election (the irony being that I’ve long believed that’s the right tactic for dealing with Trump). A little bit of self-examination can go a long way.

Sorry, your article is dated mid-August, it’s now October, even in August the delay was unprecedented since the adoption of constituency offices. There’s no valid reason for the delay.

this is called the canadian politics thread, not the "shit on the current government only" thread.

hatred. that's funny. we laugh at PP. We don't hate him. Cons need to face facts that they will never win federally again until he's gone.

ah, the old "you can't admit you've been suckered" game, when there's been nothing so far to feel suckered about. Sad face. Dude's been PM for 6 months.

I'm not particularly enamored with carney apologizing to trump for ford's ad. But I'm not going to froth at the mouth at everything he does. That shit's a distraction. Doesn't matter. I can figure out what matters and what doesn't. Some are too blinded by anger to do that.

Doesn't have an office set up. OOOOOHHHHH. Big deal. I wouldn't give a single shit if PP didn't either. There are temporary avenues, as the article I posted detailed.

You continue to project a lot of emotion onto my posts.

The constituency office is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. If we’re all believers in the Canadian model of representative democracy then there shouldn’t be any disagreement about the excessive delay from Carney. But a now-out-of-date article is posted, presumably justifying the delay (since you offered no commentary of your own I fall back on what I’ve observed).

By the way, I recall reading the article you posted when it was first published, in fact there’s a good chance I posted it at the time when I complained around the 100-day mark. If the RCMP had issued a statement backing up the claims of security concerns then I might feel differently, but they haven’t, and Carney’s office chose not to explain.

Such sympathy for our fellow voters (look back to the discussions of the Longest Ballot as well).
