    I can't speak to the 40, but one of my amps is an id100 and I love it. Great cleans and dirt. My only complaint is the effects are a little goofy with the 4 button switch. But the delay is amazing. 
    I want to be clever, but I don't know how.

    That is a VERY good sounding receiver. I used to have the next step below that one in the previous series. (SX-626). I actually bought it from someone here on the forum. 

    Pair it up with some efficient speakers and it will play plenty loud for most people, regardless of it relatively low power output.

    No.  No they are not.  Give me an amp with six or so knobs vs a box that can do a million things anyday.

    But if you gig at places that run out of a PA, they have a use.  Plus you don't have to carry a huge pedal board.  

    But I guarantee you will be playing your guitars much more often with an amp and it will be a lot less frustrating.

    i agree. i prefer amps. i bought a headrush prime last year. it sounds good, but because of the amound of knob tweaking and volume matching and shit you have to do to set it up and create usable presets i have basically given up on it. i do not plan to ever gig with it, but i do use it at home a fair amount. plus the frfr speaker sounds too wooly. sounds nothing like the tones i get running straight into the pa. i have basically given up on ever mastering that thing.

    I use a Darkglass Element for bass practice at home. It was IR cab models and can easily be used with headphones. I could probably use it in place of my amp but it just doesn't feel the same. 

    Maybe it's different with some guitarists but if I can't feel the bass shaking shit and moving air, I don't want it. 

    For electric and acoustic guitar,..... still amps for me. No substitute for the real thing, even though new gen modeling is better than ever. It has more to do with how an instrument responds to different touch and technique than how it sounds. The new modelers, profilers and amp sims SOUND great, but the feel and touch response isn't quite there yet. 

    (The Fender Tone Master amps might be the exception. Those things are really impressive and weigh hardly anything.)

    i agree. i always used to say when i plug into and amp and hit an E chords and if it does not rattle my balls it is not what i need. i do not get that with the headrush, so i totally relate to what you are saying. 

    those tonemasters are pretty sweet. i just am not a huge fan of fender amps in general so i don't really have a need for one.

    I found a Sweetwater mini catalog from Summer of 2023.  A fender princeton tonemaster was $800.   Now they are $1300.   :|

    I've got a Tone Master and I love it. It looks like it's going to weigh a ton and then you pick it up with one hand easily. I don't play loud, so it's perfect for me. Got it for a good used price.

    Cool! I got to play a '66 Fender Strat through a Tone Master Twin Reverb at a local shop a while back and was thoroughly impressed. It very much sounded and felt like a real deal Twin Reverb. 

    If I needed an amp for playing outside of my home, I think the Tone Master Twin Reverb or Super Reverb would be it.
