I don't think that joke works because at the heart of it, not knowing what Bad Bunny is saying is just scratching the surface of what people are upset about. To say nothing about its maybe 4 PJ songs where you don't know what Ed is saying.

Early REM would have been a better band to pick, but then the joke still isn't great.

I still can’t understand any vocal emanating from a nineties era Seattle band. It was a thing back then.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner has been announced, and it's not just a worthy choice... it's brilliant. Instead of ignoring Trump's incessant demands for the prize, this selection feels like a direct response to him.

This year's winner isn't a world leader, it's a pro-democracy activist from Venezuela named Maria Corina Machado. The symbolism is very deliberate... this was a statement.

In the press release announcing the winner, the committee noted:

"Democracy is a precondition for lasting peace. However, we live in a world where democracy is in retreat, where more and more authoritarian regimes are challenging norms and resorting to violence. The Venezuelan regime’s rigid hold on power and its repression of the population are not unique in the world. We see the same trends globally: rule of law abused by those in control, free media silenced, critics imprisoned, and societies pushed towards authoritarian rule and militarisation. In 2024, more elections were held than ever before, but fewer and fewer are free and fair."

"When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognise courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist. Democracy depends on people who refuse to stay silent, who dare to step forward despite grave risk, and who remind us that freedom must never be taken for granted, but must always be defended – with words, with courage and with determination."

    ...

There is little need to read between the lines there.

    Read the full statement here:

    Occupy Democrats adbook post

BREAKING: Trump's EEOC Chair is pressuring staff to fast-track discrimination cases against white men despite little evidence — while gutting cases for actual victims of discrimination.

The federal agency created by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect workers from discrimination has been turned into a blatantly political operation by the Trump administration — and the people who dedicated their careers to it are sounding the alarm.

More than a dozen current and former employees of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) — both Republicans and Democrats — told the New York Times that Chair Andrea Lucas has transformed the agency into an arm of the Trump White House, pressuring investigators to fast-track cases that fit Trump's political agenda regardless of evidence, while sidelining legitimate discrimination claims.

The directives are explicit. District directors instructed staff in writing to assign top priority ranking to "all cases that fall within the chair's priorities" and separately ordered staff to prioritize all cases claiming discrimination against white people. Lucas released a social media video encouraging white men specifically to file complaints. Cases claiming "reverse DEI" discrimination are being accelerated through the system.

Meanwhile, investigators are being told to find reasons to keep weak cases alive. In one instance that staff described to the Times, they were required to justify closing a case involving a white man who didn't get a job — because the job went to another white man, and every other applicant was also a white man.

The human cost is buried in the numbers. The agency has 1,725 employees — its lowest staffing in decades, down from 2,300 in 2023. It received 90,000 complaints last year. There are approximately 400 investigators to handle them. Intake interviews have been cut from 90 minutes to 55. Staff says they regularly close cases that would prove violations of employment law if given adequate time.

Lucas has been providing regular updates on cases directly to the White House — a departure from the historical firewall between the agency and the executive branch. She has personally instigated investigations, including one against Nike over DEI initiatives and one against the University of Pennsylvania that a court filing called "premised on the unspecified suspicions of a single commissioner."

Employees describe a workforce that is demoralized, fearful, and watching the moral mission they dedicated their careers to being dismantled in real time. "Many saw their work enforcing the nation's civil rights laws as a moral calling," the Times reported. "That has now been abandoned."

The EEOC was born to protect the most vulnerable workers in America. Under Trump, it has been mutated into a political weapon to pursue the administration's culture war — while 90,000 legitimate complaints pile up.

Please like and share this post if you believe the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission should protect all workers from discrimination — and not be weaponized for a reactionary right-wing political agenda.

Here's an interesting article about the perceptions some people have of California:

Alabama columnist Josh Moon is quoted as saying, "Each time I write something that suggests a progressive solution to a problem or criticize the backwards, Alabama-method for addressing issues, I receive the same comments from the same group of dopes. ‘Why don’t you move to California or somewhere where people think like you?!?!?!”

The author of the article goes on to say, "For many people, the very word "California" has come to represent more than just the state itself. It symbolizes liberal values, “woke” culture and environmental progressivism. A large swath of California residents would applaud these stereotypes, but there are also plenty of people in the state who wouldn’t want to be linked to these generalizations."

That last half sentence is something a lot of people do not realize- that California has a strong conservation and right wing presence.  (Even San Francisco, right? )  There are counties in Calif that voted for Trump (I live in one of them).  My own districts congressman is hard core right wing.  He is anything but woke (and I would love to see him get voted out with out new temporary redistricting!)

But although I do mind that there are MAGAs living in my state (or any state, planet, or universe for that matter), I don't mind that there are some conservative people living here.  I know some conservative people with whom I don't always agree on some subjects, but they are good, decent people, not racist pedophiles like... yeah, that guy.  Even the likes of Heather Cox Richardson have welcomed conservative leaning Republicans who have rejected the MAGA mind set.  Right on.

So my hope is that the people on the right who are leaving this state are MAGAs, but not necessarily traditional conservatives.  I know two MAGAs who left California.   I don't wish them ill, but I also do not miss them.
