“All day I am thinking: your son, your son. You need to do something for your son. Yazan is not a normal boy, he’s very disabled. But he’s the most precious thing I’ve got. Before the war he was improving so much. He was going to therapy. He was making good eye contact. He’s very shy, he cannot express his feelings. But I would take him to visit the neighbors and everyone loved him. He’s a lovely boy: he holds my head, he kisses my cheeks. Right before the war we had a surgery on his legs. At that time he was five years old. When the doctors removed his casts I brought him home from the hospital, and I told my daughters and my wife to close their eyes. When they opened their eyes again, Yazan was walking. We’ll never forget this moment; we had so much hope that he’d be a normal boy. But all the clinics have been closed now for two years. He’s had no therapy. Nothing has been done for him, nothing. Now if he walks three steps he falls down. Before the war he’d started to make sentences with a few words: ‘I need bread, I need water.’ Now if he wants something, he’ll just catch me by the arm and show me. And he’s doing this thing now, where he jerks his arms and legs. This is something we’ve never seen before. We thought we would always go forward. We thought that he would be a normal boy. But now I am watching him deteriorate before my eyes. I have a good job; I work on a medical team. But still, I have no power. It takes all my power just to keep him from dying. Last year he got very bad diarrhea. There was no drinkable water. All of the pharmacies were empty. But I heard of a pharmacy six kilometers away with diarrhea medicine. I was so tired. No car, no fuel, no donkey cart. It was like horrible American action movie: there was bombing, shooting from tanks, shooting from helicopter. But I walked six kilometers, and I got him some medicine. And we managed to stop the diarrhea. Anything he needs, I will do. I have two hands. In one of these hands I carry all the problems of my work, all the problems of the war, raising my four daughters with no food, no water, no shelter, no electricity. And in the other hand, I carry Yazan.”

After the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, antisemitism spiked in central Ohio. Jewish Columbus reported threats and harassment against Jewish people to police, but WOSU found the organization also reported protest activity that was critical of Israel. Some believe Jewish Columbus’ actions blurred the lines between hate speech and protected speech by reporting both to police. The group defended its actions to WOSU at first, saying it didn't believe the protests as a whole were antisemitic. Now, Jewish Columbus says it is reporting both antisemitic attacks on Jewish people and events it believes are against Zionism. http://bit.ly/4oL7TJf

    I guess they’re Hamas mouthpieces?

Revealed: Israeli military’s own data indicates civilian death rate of 83% in Gaza war

Figures from classified IDF database listed 8,900 named fighters as dead or probably dead in May, as overall death toll reached 53,000

Figures from a classified Israeli military intelligence database indicate five out of six Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in Gaza have been civilians, an extreme rate of slaughter rarely matched in recent decades of warfare.

As of May, 19 months into the war, Israeli intelligence officials listed 8,900 named fighters from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad as dead or “probably dead”, a joint investigation by the Guardian, the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call has found.

At that time 53,000 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli attacks, according to health authorities in Gaza, a toll that included combatants and civilians. Fighters named in the Israeli military intelligence database accounted for just 17% of the total, which indicates that 83% of the dead were civilians.

That apparent ratio of civilians to combatants among the dead is extremely high for modern warfare, even compared with conflicts notorious for indiscriminate killing, including the Syrian and Sudanese civil wars.

“That proportion of civilians among those killed would be unusually high, particularly as it has been going on for such a long time,” said Therése Pettersson from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, which tracks civilian casualties worldwide. “If you single out a particular city or battle in another conflict, you could find similar rates, but very rarely overall.”

    8,900
Named fighters listed as dead or ‘probably dead’ in Israeli database as of May 2025

In global conflicts tracked by UCDP since 1989, civilians made up a greater proportion of the dead only in Srebenica – although not the Bosnian war overall – in the Rwandan genocide, and during the Russian siege of Mariupol in 2022, Pettersson said.

And from the same article. Ain’t just me saying it:

Many genocide scholarslawyers and human rights activists, including Israeli academics and campaign groups, say Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, citing the mass killing of civilians and imposed starvation.

The Israeli military did not dispute the existence of the database or dispute the data on Hamas and PIJ deaths when approached for comment by Local Call and +972 Magazine. When the Guardian asked for comment on the same data, a spokesperson said they had decided to “rephrase” their response.

This is an example of how far we’ve fallen when this kind of shit happens. It’s the UK but you know, we’re right there with them in this regard. But I’m sure there are several here who say it’s “deserved” because they “can” and “do.” Brilliant.

When I tried to interview Marwa, the internet in Gaza was so bad I couldn’t hear half of her words. She then sent me a written follow-up, which was so moving, and so beautifully written, that I’ve ditched the interview altogether and am including it here in full: “Israel bombed our house into a pile of rubble and dust. Everyone in it-- my mother, my father, my four sisters, my brother, my baby niece-- became a memory in the same instant. During the war, the home had become our lifeline. Comfort wasn't always in words. It was in a shared cup of tea in the dark. It was my mother holding our hands, her presence a silent promise that we were not alone. It was my sisters distracting the children with stories. We would huddle together, our physical closeness a shield against the terrifying sounds outside. It’s probably a mercy that the house is now gone, because I don't think my heart could bear to see the physical emptiness of the rooms where so much life once existed. It’s the 'unimportant' moments, the background noise of a living family, that I miss the most. I miss the sound of my father's key in the door at the end of the day. I miss my mother's hand on my forehead, checking for a fever that wasn't there, just out of habit. I miss arguing with Nour about politics and then laughing about it two minutes later. I miss Mona's quiet smile from across the room, a look that says: 'I understand. I miss Ayat bursting into my room to show me a funny video. I miss the boys debating which one of them was the better gamer. Where all that beautiful noise used to be—there is nothing but profound silence. If I had one more moment with each of them, I would simply say: ‘Thank you.’ To my father: 'Thank you for believing in me more than I ever believed in myself.' To my mother: 'Thank you for every silent sacrifice I was too young or too busy to notice.' To my sisters and brothers: 'Thank you for being the irreplaceable pieces of my childhood and my heart.' And if I could sit them together one more time, I would say to them: 'I see you. I see everything you did for me, for us. And I am so incredibly grateful.”

Keep at it , you’re safe for now.

Mossad, like any intelligence agency, monitors a wide range of information that could impact Israel's national security, including international public opinion and accusations against the state. However, it is impossible to know if they are specifically aware of an individual online commenter like "Halifax2themax."

Intelligence agencies generally focus on broader threats and trends, such as:
     * State and non-state actors: Groups or governments that pose a direct threat to Israel.
     * Widespread movements: Protests, boycotts, and political movements that are gaining significant traction.
     * Key influencers: Journalists, politicians, and public figures with a large following who are shaping the narrative.
While they may be aware of the general criticism and accusations of genocide that "Halifax2themax" might be making, it's highly unlikely they would be tracking a single, non-publicly-identified online commenter.

Geno says, “ nah, they don’t try to stifle free speech or freedom of expression. All made up Hamas propaganda.”

Pro-Israel lawyers investigated over alleged legal threats to suppress support for Palestine

UK Lawyers for Israel accused of sending ‘vexatious and legally baseless’ letters to silence support for Palestine

An organisation of pro-Israel lawyers in the UK is under investigation after a complaint that it threatened people with legal action to suppress support for Palestine.

UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) has been accused of sending eight letters to individuals and organisations between January 2022 and May 2025 that “demonstrate a seeming pattern of vexatious and legally baseless correspondence aimed at silencing and intimidating Palestine solidarity efforts”, according to the complainants.

The complaint was lodged with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) by the Public Interest Law Centre (PILC) and the European Legal Support Center. They allege “serious breaches” of the SRA’s principles and code of conduct.

A spokesperson for the SRA said: “We have had a complaint and are investigating before deciding on next steps.”

UKLFI was formed in 2011 to use its members’ legal skills “to combat BDS [Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions] and the delegitimisation of Israel”.

Its website says: “We employ advocacy, legal research and campaigning to support Israel, Israeli organisations, Israelis, and/or supporters of Israel against BDS and other attempts to undermine, attack or delegitimise them.”

The complaint says UKLFI uses “strategic lawsuits against public participation (Slapps), which are lawsuits intended to limit freedom of expression on matters of public interest”.

One of the letters included in the complaint was sent by Caroline Turner, a director of UKLFI, to the Scottish Storytelling Centre, an arts centre in Edinburgh, that had announced plans to host a Palestinian film festival in May in partnership with Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland.

According to the complaint, UKLFI’s letter claimed the scheduled events were “inherently antisemitic and anti-Zionist in nature” and could lead to a referral to the Scottish charity regulator. UKLFI requested the festival’s cancellation.

Another letter was sent by Turner on behalf of UKLFI to the Cornelius Cardew Concerts Trust, which had organised a classical music concert called The World Stands With Palestine at a London college in November 2024.

The concert was to feature new music written “in response to the struggle of the Palestinian people”. Flyers advertising the concert included an image of a placard reading: “Stand with Palestine!! Stand with the Resistance!!”.

According to the complaint, UKLFI’s letter said the concert was “siding with the viewpoint” of Hamas and was likely to be in breach of the Terrorism Act 2000. It appeared to be “designed to stir up racial hatred against Jews and Israelis, and to sympathise with the aims of the Hamas terrorist organisation”.

The concert was cancelled by the college that was due to host the event.

Paul Heron, the founder of PILC, said: “UKLFI are acting in a manner that chills public participation and intimidates those who stand in solidarity with Palestine … We will not allow legal threats to shut down the public’s right to speak out on Palestine. The SRA has a duty to step in, to uphold professional standards, and to protect civil society from intimidation dressed up as law.”

The SRA’s website describes Slapps as a “type of abusive litigation” that can “undermine freedom of expression, the rule of law and amount to a misuse of the legal system”.

In a statement published on its website, UKLFI said the allegations against it were unfounded.

It said: “We are accused of writing vexatious and baseless letters, and the complainants say they have acquired eight examples from a period of over three years.” It added that since October 2023 UKLFI had been called on to address “hundreds of requests for help every year from Jewish members of the public expressing genuine concerns in many areas of life including medical services, retailers, education and the arts”.

“Many of the concerns relate to conduct creating an intimidating, hostile and offensive environment for Jewish patients, workers, customers or students, and sometimes excluding them altogether.

“If appropriate, we write to the relevant organisation and point out what is happening, the effect that this has had on the Jewish or Israeli customer or patient, and how applicable laws or regulatory requirements are being breached. We also explain how the problem may be solved.”
