So I am about finished with using PSA. The way they grade the cards now is so painful and ridiculous that it's just not worth it anymore.
The big card I had came back a 9. I had multiple people look over the card to see if there were any flaws. Magnifying glasses, lights, the whole 9 yards. All agreed it was a fine specimen.
The card is a Yammamoto Topps Chrome Blue auto rc. It had the potential to be a 2k card. Now its not...
Can someone please explain was a "break" is? I see that Fanatics has a site where you pay for a certain team, and then they open a pack?
Thanks
The seller has an unopened box or boxes of cards. They open or “break” the packs on a live stream for transparency purposes. You would receive all the cards for the team you are assigned/bought once the packs are opened.
Thanks!
Its a cheaper way to get cards but with the odds now a days its tough to pull anything. Might as well spend the money and open a box but even that can be a horrible experience when you get a middle relievers auto...
Yeah, I was getting a lot of filler doing breaks during covid and after.
I would suggest going into a random-team break as opposed to a pay value for team. Say the Rangers and Phillies have the hot card(s). Those teams would be like $125 to enter, while teams with very little value are like $20 to enter. Random teams spread it out and is a little more exciting with a team draw. Especially with 2 entries.
I found that it is just better/easier to go out, target, and buy cards that I want.

I agree w everything you just said, bravo.
I noticed around 2019 the printruns going up and more "filler" autos being more abundant in bowman breaks. I remember buying heavily into the padres in 2022 going for James wood. Full cases and not getting an auto or colored cards of him. That put a bad taste in my mouth and haven't bothered with breaks that much since.
So now i buy singles or do a random break for fun. I do not do breaks regularly anymore.

I submitted 5 Ohtani Topps Now rookie cards to PSA for grading. The cards have never been touched except for when I put them in a sleeve & top loader. I don't see any reason why they don't come back as 10s, but you never know!

I submitted 10 topps now ohtanis and all ten came back 10's. The QC on those cards are top notch believe it or not.

SGC and CGS will be my next companies to grade with.
Topps posted an obvious fake Willie Mays “Topps Certified Autograph” signed by his wife (unfortunately common occurrence with Mays) card on their socials in May. I’ve seen these same wife-fakes authenticated by PSA & Beckett. The hobby is at an all time low. I keep waiting for another 90s style crash but people just keep buying. Grading & authentication services are either incompetent or outright corrupt.

Topps just got nailed for issuing fake Messi autos too. They were also AUTHENTICATED!. Now I wonder if it was this ring of fakes that was behind it?
Luka was another known mom signer.
2 sigs I have watched change over the years are Lebron James and Shohei Ohtani. Difference w Ohtani is I have seen him sign his old sig on videos. Never saw Lebron sign his old sig on a video.
Now I am questioning the Trout piece I have hanging up in my man cave. It has dual certs from Fanatics and MLB. They both are legit certs. The auto and Jersey is time correct and yet still I have doubts. Doesn't that suck...
I am curious if they will be able to locate the real from fake certs?

I have been "investing" in auctions that award you random spots for pack breaks.
So far, I have gotten lucky winning a few $400 cards, but overall, it is a losing proposition!

Do any of them show the checklists and what your potential odds are at getting a good card?

Happy to say… the only autos I have are ones I received in person at shows. 😅
