Remembering Roskilde

It’s the 25th anniversary of the darkest day in Pearl Jam history. Nine fans lives were lost that night in Denmark, and it’s one of the worst tragedies in the history of live music.

i wanted to tell the story of what happened. Less so about the moment itself, but the aftermath. How the band had to go back on tour immediately and heal through their own performances. How their writing reflected the events that happened that day, how they reinforced security measures to make sure nothing like this ever happened again. What you find out in the wake of the tragedy is that it’s actually a story of resilience and strength, and it shows a major growth in the maturity of this band as human beings.

This is part one of the story of Roskilde. We talk to PJ20 author, Jonathan Cohen, and a panel of our community members on their insight and personal experiences about what happened.

Hi, I host a Pearl Jam Podcast. We go back to some of the classic shows in their history and break down the entire setlist front to back. From historic perspective, to performances, to setlist construction, to fan stories. We do our best to capture the magic that is their live act and help you relive those memories, or if you weren't there, maybe turn you on to a show you've never heard before.

Live On 4 Legs can be found on Apple Podcast, Spotify and any other major podcast platform. But please support our website and check out the episodes archived there. Oh, and the Concertpedia as well (for you Five Horizons and Two Feet Thick fans, we've picked up where they've left off)

I had friends/family seats for Amsterdam 2012 and ended up sitting next to one of the victim's family members.

Nice to see that the band keeps in contact with the families.

EV solo show in Düsseldorf on 6/30/19 had the most powerful LBC I’ve ever heard.  That was the “19 years ago today” rendition. I hope they release it one day.  It was transformational.  And I can’t believe it’s been another 6 years since then already.

Pretty sure I spoke to you about this at one point because I remember this story

Difficult to believe it has been 13 years since the 2012 Amsterdam shows!

Unfortunately, the festival itself apparently doesn't remember. At least, I couldn't find anything on their instagram.

Part two is now out and focuses on their return to Copenhagen for the first time, how general admission was handled once they started to utilize it again, and amazing tribute performances of Black and Love Boat Captain.

If you haven’t listened to part one yet, make sure you check that out first to hear the story chronologically.
