Discovering Pearl jam

Once upon a time, there was a girl who didn´t know about pj´s existence....... can you guys believe it!
Here´s my story.....
I was at high school when I first heard "Jeremy", all my friend just loved the TEN album, but in that time I prefered pop music so I didn´t care about it very much...
Later, everyone at school was singing pj´s songs all day long, but I didn´t know why they loved this new band that much, I thought they were crazy or something.
Anyway, there was a moment that I just couldn´t resist anymore, I was sick and tired of hearing "Pearl Jam this, Pearl Jam that" everywhere!... but, somehow, I ended at the shop buying the "famous" cd, I still can´t remember why I did it if I hated them so much...
Anyway, the funny thing is that once I had the cd on my hands, it took me just a second to wake up! I immediatly found out why my friends were so excited about this knew band!
The music was fantastic and that voice..., that voice was just glorious! I remember that I almost cried with "Release", "Black" and I didn´t even understood English!
After that day I joined to my friends at school and we started a club!
Now I don´t miss anything about them! Ed´s just my idol!
And... that´s it!0 -
A guy I had a little "thing" for back in '92 turned me on to them. I had never heard of them before, and then the first album I really got into was Vs, though he'd made me a tape of Ten. God, I haven't thought of him in a while- we worked together and I found every excuse to pass his office. ahhhh Those were fun times.Life is the riddle
Of which we're caught in the middle.

I'm still very much getting into them. My girlfriend has always been a fan, but for some reason I just didn't get grunge, I was more into heavy metal... I kinda liked Nirvana and thought I was cool, guess that shows I've grown
Anyway, I went through a music videos stage, and came across "Do the Evolution". From that moment I KNEW there ws something in Pearl Jam I had obviously missed. It conveyed my frame of mind so well. Needless to say I picked up Yield and discovered a new world! Since then I went onto "Vs" and "Riot Act" and just found myself becoming addicted to Eddie's lyrics, and (you've got to admit it) his sexy voice.
Then "Ten" happened... I felt winded. I started listening to it about a years ago, and it moved me so much I cried! "Black" & "Jeremy" one after eachother just creates such an atmosphere of elated desperation it was unreal. I still haven't fully recovered from it yet, but I sit back comfortably in the knowledge that I still have NC, Binaural and Vitalogy to go."Morality is the herd instinct of the individual" - Nietsche0 -
saw a pj special on tv a few years ago. id heard jeremy before that, but now i decided to get it. i also got animal, and for a few weeks i listened to them over and over. i then decided to get their albums, but wanted them in the right order. did some research and listened to them in the order they were released. its better appreciated that way, dont u think?
went to the 03 brisbane concert and totally went nuts. every1 waves their lighters around when they had songs like better man and insignificance. best experience ever0 -
my story.
well my parents are seperated, and my dad likes pearl jam and has only really had Vs but for like 10 years, but coz of my parents split since i was 3 months old i never really heard it properly for along time, but my dad would often talk about them, i never really thought anything of them because id never heard of there music and just thought it was another band like all the others my dad would listen to (led zep, hendrix etc.) then about 2 years ago i was just sitting around the house watching t.v then then the intro to jeremy came on then up came "Pearl Jam - Jeremy" i thought 'oooo pearl jam finally get to hear them!' it was nothing like what ive heard b4 but i carried on watching it, i dont know why but ed really grabbed my attention, so by the end of the song i decided i really enjoyed the song. but never really followed it up, then i heard alive, loved that. so i downloaded jeremy, alive and daughter. i also tryed out given to fly but didnt really like it, but this christmas just gone i decided i would buy ten on a whim because lots of ppl say its amazing and i liked jeremy and alive. christmas day came and i stuck it in my player and left it to play, i loved all the tracks loads and i wasent even concentrating. i wasent even listening to black yet couldent help playing it over and over, then when he comes in the the WHY WHY WHY part i was like Fuuuuuuckin hell! ive been hooked on PJ ever since. i have 5 albums so far and planning to get the rest v. soon0 -
I went back to work two years ago after being home with my sons for a long time......on the radio at work I kept hearing this magical voice singing the Beatles "Hide your love away" I had to find out who it was and what band he was with. it was Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam! I realized I knew some of their songs-but when you have four boys close in age-the noise level is insane....I stopped listening to music for a decade-I missed the start of Alternative Rock. After that....I couldn't get enough music-Pearl Jam brought me back to it. I lucked out with my timing.....Riot Act was soon released was given it by hubby for my birthday-loved it-next I bought all the albums they had out -Loved them all! Only days later, I was listening to my favorite Alternative Rock station and they announced the up-coming tour. The following day the DJ talked about fan club seating, feeling too old to be in a fan club I didn't join right away, but went to the 10c site and checked it out...I couldn't stop thinking about getting fan club seating-so the last possible hour I could have joined after major computer problems-I DID IT! I went to two great shows Uniondale and MSGII and wish I had gone to more. Purchased lots of boots and found the Rumor Pit. I can't wait for a new album and a tour-PLEASE....Pearl Jam lights up my world like nothing else. My sons and hubby no longer think I have gone insane and just accept the fact that I am addicted to the music!~*LIVE~LOVE~LAUGH*~

I have been a HUGE fan of PJ for years now, my ex-husband (then boyfriend) was really into them when we first started dating and always played them, and as soon as i herd "indifference" that was it, I was hooked. PJ's music has helped me through alot of things over the years and to this day I still believe there is no one else in the world that compares to Eddie's fucking excellent voice. I live in Brisbane Australia and they are still Hugh over here, wish they would come out more often.0

Well I got into Pearl Jam last summer. I was on holiday in America and I was in NJ listening to KROCK and Jeremy came on. My Uncle was amazed that I had never heard a Pearl Jam song before. I loved Jeremy so much that I went and bought Ten, Vs and a bootleg the next day. I have never looked back! Pearl Jam are the best band ever!0

im still fairly new the pj, i discovered them through my guitar teacher, he went on and on about how they were (and still are) the only group that are the 'ideal' band, awesome songs, great arrangments, briiliant live, everything you want in a great rock group. i really took notice around the time riot act was released, and my dad had yeild and binaural, and i've worked my way back from there. the lyrics had guitar work are so unique and effortlessly moving.
i dont think any other group has as much consistancy in song quality as pearl jam. they can play two completly different sets over two nights and they will both be of equal quality, such a brilliant back catalogue.`_``` _```

I was working in a salon and everyday at 12, I would be fixing an old lady's hair and the song hungerstrike would come on. I would shut her out of my mind and bask in the music because basically I really was going hungry, not ever being one to eat breakfast.
I loved the song, and my hubby at the time loved it too. He would turn it up on our roadtrips to various places. I never really took notice to PJ though until the Jeremy video came out. Then, my ex bought Ten, and I've been hooked since.0 -
It's a tough one, because it was so long ago, but it was like it was meant to be. In about 1992, my friend from Seattle, who used to live in Minneapolis came to visit me. And he brought a bunch of grunge tapes with like Gruntruck, screaming trees,Nirvanna, soundgarden and a Pearl jam bootleg. I knew of some of these bands, my older brther had the Ten album, and I liked it, but did't know the magnitude it was going to have on me.
Anyway back to the bbotleg ny buddy had. It had State of love and trust on it, a bunch of ten songs, wash, and breath. When I heard SOLAT I new I was hooked. I listened to that song for days after the first time I heard, since I made a copy of the tape. I just felt I could really relate to the music. Now I am 26 and I bought every album as they came out, and to this day I think the next one is better than the last.
Peace

my uncle has ALWAYS listened to pearl jam, and he turned my brother into a bigger fan than he was. so naturally my brother was always playing their songs but i was into like blink 182 at the time and all of this really bad music that i thought was good. anyways, i just liked the mtv-style songs like evenflow and jeremy. but i grew through that period of liking bad music, found some of his good bands like nirvana, pumpkins, rage, chili peppers, etc... finally i found the Touring Band 2000 DVD in his room and put it in once i saw even flow at the back. so i watched it, and was of course stunned by the amazing solo by mike during it. i watched it and was mesmerized by how good it was at the time to me (and still is). so i watched it and jeremy but really didn't know any of the names of other songs i liked. but one time i just kind of let it roll in the background and it grew on me to the point where now ive watched it countless times and pearl jam is arguably my favorite band. i'll never forget the first time i heard go on it, i was like wow, i've never seen a band thats lasted so long yet still remains to have so much energy. it's safe to say that tb2k changed my life forever..."Last time I think we played that song here was like, a long time ago, and there was a bonfire in the back and people were like throwing each other into it...very exciting days but a huge fucking relief that that's not how it is tonight..." I got my toes wet in PJ when i was in my last year of high school, 01. Only Really got into them in my college days because my buddies introduced me to songs and albums i didn't know about. The first album i bought was actually a combo package of vs. and Vitalogy on sale.0

Basically I have loved PJ from the begining but I would love to read your storys of how you got into them if it was later. My friend was really into, although he was going through some serious mental stuff at the time so i wasn't sure if it was helping him or hindering him. Then i saw the Film clip for Jeremy, and totally took to the band and the songs. I got right into the whole "Seattle" style music. That was the early 90's, and since then i have always been on the look out for any new recordings of PJ songs i could get my hands on!0
