I always wondered what the appeal is for this band? His voice is just not good at all and I find their music to be generic rock

They put on a great show ( although once is enough). They have some good singles but I do generally agree. I will say the first show back at msg after covid was an epic rock n roll celebration. And Aurora is easily my favorite song from them.

For me I feel like they have a few albums that kickass front to back (colour and the shape, wasting light, etc..).  On the flip side almost every album has at least 1 or 2 poretty good songs.  Add up a career's worth of album and they put on a kickass live show.

Like the poster above me said, the live show isn't mixed up very much.   I feel the same way about metallica. I go once every 10 to 15 years, but not a band I feel like I need to see every tour.

Yeah just not my type of music that I like at this stage in my life!

Yeah, wasn’t expecting that. I wonder if Dave is bringing in Shane Hawkins and didn’t tell Josh why in order to keep that news under wraps. It would seem a bit early IMO but Dave will do whatever the fuck he wants.

If the situation left Josh feeling that way, Dave fucked up. I've historically been a big Dave Grohl defender but the last 3 or so years has been a real bummer.

I've never been a fan of the Foos. No real reason, just never got into them.

That being said, I know Shane has played with them occasionally, but I sure hope he's not doing it full time. The fucking kid is 18. And it's too on the nose for me. Grohl needs to leave him alone for a bit.
May your days be long, til kingdom come.

Of course Grohl sabotages the only thing the Foo Fighters have done in the last 15 or 20 years to really pique my interest. If he hires Shane Hawkins, I might just lose the little amount of respect I have left for him.

Josh Freese is a National Treasure... I can't wait for his top 10 list.

I love their 1st three albums, but since Nothing Left To Lose, it's felt like Nothing Left To Listen To (I'll see myself out).

Couldn't agree more about Shane though... leave the kid out of it.

Him returning to APC last year is the best music news for me since Faith No More got back together in 2009.
Grohl’s making a fool of himself letting him go for no reason.

um, none of us know the reason. it's none of our business. Dave hasn't fired anyone from the band in 25 years. There was obviously a reason. He's not embarrassing himself. Come on.

I think people (myself included) are fans of Josh and are reacting to his note where HE ALSO doesn't know the reason. Which is kinda the issue. If it was just a news story with no quote from any party I'd be more on your side.

they told him they are going in a different direction. Pretty standard fare for situations like this. Sure, that could mean a whole lot of things, but it doesn't mean he's embarrassing himself. Sometimes you dump someone you say "it's not you it's me" to spare the person from humiliation. Maybe there was someone in the band he didn't gel with? Who knows.

Maybe splitting hairs but while I don't think it's embarrassing per se I think it makes him look like a jerk

I'll add that my opinion has a lot to do with the specific situation and people involved. 98% of bands could fire their drummer this way and I wouldn't give it much thought.

You’re not wrong… we don’t know what we don’t know. Based on JF’s resume, I would be surprised to hear that he didn’t gel with anyone or was difficult to work with (but I get it… you were just throwing out an example). I’m also surprised he put out this note in the first place… maybe he’s not as professional as I thought or maybe he was blindsided and genuinely doesn’t understand the situation and / or maybe Grohl was a dick about it. All of these are possible, and maybe all of them are true, or maybe none of them. We don’t know.

Idk… it’s Grohl’s prerogative to keep whatever reasons he has to himself, but I definitely thought more of all parties involved both as professionals and people in general to think that if / when this split happened, it would have been amicable or at least understandable (for them at least). Maybe that’s on me for thinking too highly of people I don’t know.
I should also withhold the “beclowning himself” comment until he hires Shane Hawkins… god I hope he doesn’t do that.
I still think this is a dumb move as JF is one of the best drummers in the industry; time will tell if I’m right or not.

To be fair, Josh was never “in the band” but only a hired gun.

I am no expert, but doesn't replacing a drummer require A LOT of rehearsal time. The band can't be too thrilled unless there were actual problems.

I also predict the replacement will be someone's kid.
