When did they add Umphrey's McGee to the lineup?

Given Brent just left Mastodon things could be hairy there too.

Saw the merch post. I'm seeing them in Mexico City-anyone know what time doors open at Explanada de Estadio Azteca, if merch booths are outside the venue, best time to get merch etc?

It was weird enough that Mastodon was closing this out and now they have a salty crowd and who knows what for a plan without Brent. In hindsight all the red flags were there that this was gonna be half-assed.

    from a reddit post:

Tool plays an epic show in the Dominican Republic. Asking fans to fly to the DR for three nights of music with two nights of Tool as the headliner. The show costing an exorbitant amount hoping for a great two night of music. Tool planned to play an hour and a half each night. The first night did not disappoint. Many great songs that fans were dying to hear. The second night started with a surprise. As far as I know you could not purchase tickets to one night of the show. Meaning that everyone here was here for two nights hoping to see an epic no repeat set. They started the second evening with a repeat of the night before. Everyone disappointed about the repeat from the night before. Then Maynard asked who wasn’t here last night. No hands went up. They played a new song (Aenema) and then played repeat after repeat from the night before. We watched huge fans next to us walk out of the show. They only played an hour and mostly repeats from the first night. Why fly to the DR on a 3 night ticket to watch an hour of repeat songs from the night before? Not sure what to say but this was a very disappointing show. Especially for the cost. To pay to see a show and it turn out to be two of the same show was a major bummer. I will never pay to see them again which is very disappointing.

Wow. I love this band’s music, but JFC they make it hard to be a fan.

I guess I won't be hanging out with my buddy that went any time soon. Don't want to hear about THAT.

If main motivation was to knock DR off the bucket list, with a side of Tool?  Then it would be worth it.

There’s more variety in the two sets than a normal two show run.

I was on the fence about going.  I’m not regretting  missing it, but would have been satisfied with those shows. Plus a good supporting lineup!

I do feel bad for those that are disappointed

One can get a comparable all inclusive package at the hard rock or a neighboring resort for as little as 1/3 - 1/2 of what they were charging people to get into the festival. From that perspective, you're looking at an extra $1500 just for the concerts.

Had they not advertised two unique setlists that would be one thing, but I completely understand the frustration.

edit: & comparing this weekend to a normal two show run is apples -> oranges.

Ok. You convinced me. People got fucked over!

guess I was just trying to shine a turd?! I was clearly in the minority trying to find some positives. Easy for me, when I didn’t drop the cash on it.

This is easily the least amount of effort I've seen any host band put into one of these destination festivals. I've been to two and read about many others. The lack of effort is particularly notable when I consider how much was put into the Sessanta and Beat shows I saw last year.

Now if someone looks at the setlists and total stage time and says they would be totally satisfied relative to the cost - I cannot argue with that opinion but I also can't comprehend it.

How difficult would it be to scale back production and play a pair of 2 hour sets stuffed with a bunch of songs fans haven't heard regularly in years? Have they lost so much on their fastball that they can't work them up in rehearsals? Do they just not want to put in the time? Do all 4 guys look at this plan and say "perfect, we're proud of this plan?"

Sheesh. The two unique sets thing should be honoured. So the fans were right to be annoyed-Maynard should have understood. Especially when the tickets are so expensive.

Just got to Mexico City and hoping the band will be on form here. Maybe the set will have one more song in it as it'll won't be a festival (well the Cult are opening so that should be interesting). Will probably splurge on merch as hey not too many Kiwis get to go to Mexico City for gigs but I'm disappointed fans felt hard done by. Hope the rest of the tour fans get their hopes met.

If they played Eulogy the second night all may have been forgiven 😂

Part of me thinks it’s all Adam & Maynard making these calls… the other two probably have just learned to yield to them. & to your point about Sessanta, we know Maynard can go all out when he wants to, and the guy never stops working… so is it Adam in the end? idk. I do wonder about the conversations that took place… they can’t not have foreseen this reaction.

It's Maynard. He picks the sets so has to.be comfortable with what he can do vocally. Danny has said he can play anything from the catalogue-which means Justin and Adam can too as their roles are less physical. Adam does the videos with Junior and Breck and I imagine they're good enough to put together some kickarse lights at short notice were the band to decide on a curveball.

Man I would love to know what the conversations are like. Both before and after. If there was any debate before and then they go and get booed by their own fans....man oh man.

Enjoy Mexico City. If it’s like any of the shows I’ve seen supporting FI, it will be amazing.

Hopefully they have some fire in their belly after this weekend & it pushes the performance to another level.

Agreed… & of all shows, they had that crowd on a spit like no other before they even took the stage. They f’ed this up good.

Seen this set with 2 changes.  Otherwise it's the same songs.

This is also why I skipped last tour.  People tell me to keep seeing them but I will pass if they can't dig into the catalog a little more.

IDK if it's a spoof or not, but my buddy sent me a reddit link about a lawsuit someone's trying to put together after the debacle Saturday night.

    Good luck with that.
