Im not a regular visitor to this board and I mostly just read posts with interest, but I have to say all this talk of "needing" another tour to start or expecting another studio album seems somewhat overboard. Wouldn't all of you rather have a well-rested, excited and motivated Pearl Jam when they tour again, or a tired, overworked band whose performances may be sub-par. Eddie has seemed to be everywhere since last August, and I have a hard time imagining he has the energy to head out on tour with Pearl Jam right now. Let the man rest...Besides, Im hoping that if they take an extended break (like 12-15 months), some of the "fans" that are bandwagoneers will take a flying leap. Discuss...

    The "bandwaggon" left in like 94-95.... they have been trickling off real fans ever since.

    That's why they're called fans. They are always in "need". They will always want the band touring, releasing new stuff, making appearances. There's nothing you can do about it so just let them be, man! :D

    Do you think. It seems that their popularity is as big as ever right now...I work with alot of kids (13-18 year olds) and I am always surprised to discover how many of them even know who Eddie Vedder is.

    Um.. he hasn't been "EVERYWHERE".. he wasn't at Bridge like he was s'posed to be.

    And yes I know there was (probably) a good reason, but the last minute thing still sucked & it was not an even swap by any means.
    Sooo.. you'll forgive me if I'm still smarting over what might have been & wishing for a tour.

    Hey, Im not trying to piss off anyone, it just seems that a band with as much integrity and energy as Pearl Jam may need some additional time to recharge the batteries.

    No offense, but if you think today's fan base is as large as '92-'93, then you're nuts.

    You may be right. It just seems that back in 92, the grunge movement was so huge, and Pearl Jam was always considered part of that genre...there were plenty of grunge fans that happened to like PJ. Nowadays, with grunge dead, it seems that fans of Pearl Jam are fans of this one specific band, rather than an entire genre...does this make sense?

    Pearl Jam is a really easy band to ignore if you're outside the circle & don't really care about them.

    Oh, I'm not pissed off. :)
    But I think, Pearl Jam would never do anything like releasing a new album, or go off tour, if they didn't want and feel prepared to do it, so I guess there's no need worry about it. They're veterans after all, they know what they're doing.

    You must not have been around from 93-95. Vs. sold a million copies the first WEEK. I don't think the past few albums have hit a million total. They were probably the biggest band in the world. They are nothing near what they were in terms of popularity.

    That's what I keep telling my boss! I'm tired, wouldn't you rather I take a month's vacation and then come back all rested, excited and motivated! She says no, cause she's a jerk, just like Pearl Jam fans.

    I work with the same age group and about 5% of them have heard of Pearl Jam. I have a PJ sticker behind my desk and each year I have students ask me, "What's a Pearl Jam"

    All record sales have dropped ever since the ipod, itunes, limewire, sharebear, and etc... have become popular.

    Plus, most of the album buyers are kids and teenagers. Grunge was the biggest genre in '92-'95, and PJ, AIC, Nirvana, SG, were all feeding off of that...then the teen pop thing came along, they were selling alot hot cakes.
    when the teen pop thing died so did Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears (look at their recent record sales).

    The record sales USUALLY indicate if an artist is popular with the kids/teens/college students.

    Pearl Jam's majority fan base are 25+

    This has nothing to do with patience...I am patient when my 4 year old takes 45 minutes to put her sock on...I am patient when I have to wait in rush hour traffic.

    Being patient is a conscious response to an otherwise ideal situation.

    This is chemical...like a drug... an unbelievably addictive drug.

    I'm not gonna apologize....I want them all well rested and happy to see us...

    BUT I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT TOUR :D:D:D

    Sooner than later please ;)
