Just finished putting new braid on my light-medium spinning reel. Hoping I can get out in the next few days to throw some crocs/spoons, spinners, and lures for trout at the local reservoir. It is the perfect time of year here in NY and it is literally 5 miles from my house.

They stock some big ones in fall in nj. Waiting for the streams to swell up a bit.
Picked up this nj salmon last winter. First and only one i ever caught. Plan on trying again.

Lakes only. So not what traditionally comes to mind thinking of salmon.
    Still darn cool!

A random one shows up here and there in a stream I fish. Perhaps an escappee of the hatchery. Good fish story anyway

Finally got my pole fixed and hit the jettys in Long Beach Sunday.  Wind was blowing hard in so I couldn't cast as far as I normally do.  Pulled a few Shorts but I enjoyed the action.
    Back out there later today.

    EDIT: Duh, they were stripers.
  • Take photos Chris. I would love to see

I've been trying a few quick trips in some lakes by me. No luck catching anything yet.

And a short striper is still a big fish.

    Nice job.
this spot is pure magic on a cold early morning. The fish rarely cooperate.

  • Wow Lou. One day my friend I need to be there

I will.  The shorts are 16" fish so for a striper that's nothing, but will nonetheless!

Stripers in NJ are hot at the moment. So I have heard. I have friends down there that love it. I am not a big saltwater ot boat guy. Freshwaters are super low at the moment here in westchester NY. Went out Saturday. Hiked 5 miles, lost three expensive lures, my braid tangled, caught a small perch, and went home. Still a good day out!

Some great reads there. Some people chase the blitzes for years and never see them. I used to surf cast and fly fish Montauk from the north and south side rocks until it became a total shit show. Mid 90s until 2003 or so. One of my all time favorite fishing memories is fly casting to a blitz on the south side. The bass and bait were literally at my feet. And even though they are blitzing, they can be VERY picky. But landing a 25 pounder on fly rod, while standing on a rock with korkers duct taped to my boot waders is one of my greatest fishing memories.

    F..king hot!!
I was in a small boat off pier by seaside heights nj looking at the Jet Star roller coaster. The bunker were thick and their pin-like dorsal fins poking out of the water as far as I could see. The stripers were nowhere to be found at that moment. I'd assume they would be feasting at any moment. Super cool to see. The ocean is amazing.
