I imagine it’s the downtime between shows that wears on you the most. Not in your house. Difficult to be really productive. Lot of sitting around and waiting.

They travel well. The 5 star hotels are probably nicer than their homes. I would guess it is the shows and the travel that are physically demanding. Being away from family. I can imagine that being 60 on a tour bus or multiple flights in a short time is no fun. But they still do it and that is why we love them. I wish Ed had honestly answered that question.

IMO he did answer it. If he loved touring and being on the road he would have said it. Silence is loud at times.

Honestly doesn't look too glamorous & I just saw a few stills here. Nice chairs though.

I guess that is true. But he probably did not want to speak for the whole band. Hard to believe how long they have been doing it.

I agree. I’m sure each member has their own thoughts/ feelings about life on the road so was trying to cover for everyone there.

I think he didn’t want to share his opinion (whatever it is) in front of the guy who has said he isn’t a big fan of being on the road - Jeff.

Of course, touring is BY FAR the biggest source of revenue for them. All the derivative profit sources of being on the road help make it worth their while.

I know the guys love what they do and it’s clear are still passionate about making music and playing in front of adoring fans; but…there must be many facets that just feel like work. Nothing wrong with that. Cheers to them for continuing to give us their art and experiences we cherish.

I’ve been saying this for a long time now; everything we get from them is icing on the cake at this point.

Not sure what I was expecting but it was a lot more than that. Kinda disappointing.

Yeah. Speaking as someone who hit Ambassador status with Marriott before Labor Day this year, sitting around, not having your usual routine, not being at home, it kind of sucks.
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

Awesome to watch. Taking my 7yo to her third show at Ohana, and I think it's just dawning on her how big PJ are and were by seeing Eddie Vedder up close on TV. The same guy she watched from the stands back in May.

Super excited, she wants to try to get close to the stage on Friday 😊
Dressing in that super cute  homemade PJ t-shirt again?
Super that she wants to party by the stage! Good luck and have fun!
We've got an Ohana-specific one designed :) I just worry she won't be able to see very well, and she's gotten too big to get on my shoulders :/

    Appreciate it!
I want to see a picture of the newly designed PJ Ohana shirt you made her!!! So incredible you do that!

I took my girl when she was nine to Ohana and a really nice guy standing next to me put her on his shoulders during her favorite song off of Gigaton, "Take the Long Way", which was Matt Cameron's creation, and for amazing Corin Tucker pro-choice verses in RITFW. I'll have to play her the full album before we go down under so I know which one she likes best off of Dark Matter!

Not much you can fit in in 8-9 minutes. Especially when we know most of that stuff. But the casual or non fan doesn't

The main thing a piece like this accomplishes is that it informs a lot of people that Pearl Jam still exists. I routinely have people from my generation, when I tell them I'm going to this city or that city to see Pearl Jam, express surprise that Pearl Jam is still together.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

It also beautifully showcased Jeff's et al.'s work in Montana.

Nice seeing the band. But I can’t stand these types of interviews/interview styles. And obviously at the same
    time too ”short” :)

These are always nice, but I hate that half of it is devoted to recapping the basic story. I get it, many who watch this may not know it and we aren’t the audience for it, but if you’re gonna take time to interview them, I’d like something a bit more in-depth.

Sometimes there’s longer cuts that come out later. Hopefully that’s the case here.

Agree. Nothing new here. The setlist list discussion was cool but other then that, nothing new. I did not realize Jeff was 61, that provides some perspective.
Oh what a horrible piece, I mean why inform and teach the diverse walks of life that make this show the best on TV.

Well documented that Jeff isn’t the biggest fan of touring. But, you wouldn’t know night in and night out. He usually seems to be having a blast.

btw, Ed just couldn’t resist a wave/surfing metaphor.

It’s reassuring to hear that they still believe magic happens when they get together. That’s a great sign 34 years in!

The 2-3 hours on stage is the highlight, it's not why musicians, or wrestlers struggle with tour.  It's the touring part of touring they struggle with.   Different city every day, never sleeping in your own bed, away from family, etc... Can't really be grounded when you're never in the same place.

Brian Johnson from AC/DC had a show that I think ran 2 seasons.  One episode was him and Lars from Metallica talking about the challenges for touring.  I think it was Lars who went into how complicated it got, where they setup a central hub in Paris, where all their families were at, then they'd fly to whatever show in Europe, then fly back to the hub, to have some consistency.

I guess musicians (or any career that involves being on the road) don't talk about it very openly, but when they complain about it, it's not the performing live for a couple hours that's the issue. It's everything that's not the 2 to 3 hours on stage.
  • When Ed said, "Wrong question." -- my guess is: Touring? No, being on the road sucks. Performing for the crowd? Absolutely.

I did not say it was horrible.

Now the merch lines will be longer that the general population knows pj is still together ;)
