It still seems strange to me that they booked Tottenham.tomccfc87 said:
They pay big money for Metallica because the years Metallica have played are the only years that Download has ever fully sold out. The cost of booking them is seen as a worthwhile investment because it provides a guaranteed boost to ticket sales on a level that even bands like AC/DC, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, didn't provide.seanclax said:
I don't think money would be an issue when it comes to download festival. Metallica have headlined many times and I'm sure they would charge more than pj. Personally I'd hate to see the boys at download, I don't think the crowd would be into it.tomccfc87 said:
Most big outdoor shows are usually booked about 12-18 months in advance as the outdoor venues usually have very strict limits on how many concerts they can get an events licence for in any given. Even if the show isn't publicly announced until around 6 months before the event the venue will have been booked over a year in advance. With the available slots for these shows being limited the best chance of seeing PJ playing an outdoor show in the UK next year might be if they get booked to headline a festival like IoW, BST, Reading/Leeds, Download, etcdrfox said:I see that some bands are already starting to announce U.K. shows for the busy June/July period in 2025. Fontaines DC announced today….
Fingers crossed if we get some PJ shows (which we all want!) they don’t leave it to February again.
Of those I think it might be too soon for them to return to BST again after 2022. Reading/Leeds is no longer really a rock festival so are unlikely to book a legacy grunge act as a headliner. The guy who books the Download line-up has said in the past that PJ are a dream headliner for him but the fact he has failed to book them once in over 20 years would suggest PJ just don't want to play there or Download are not willing to pay the fee that PJ are asking. PJ last headlined IoW in 2012 and is probably the best fit for PJ in terms of the kind of line-up they usually tend to book.
Of course it's possible that they may have had a reserve 2025 date booked at Tottenham in case of cancellation when they booked this years show and will return their next year. Or that another outdoor slot somewhere becomes available because some other as yet unannounced show falls through and creates some availability.
If it's not Hyde park next year then they should do 2 nights at the o2.
Pearl Jam failed to fully sell out any of their previous outdoor UK shows in the past 10 years (MK Bowl, Hyde Park x2 and Tottenham Stadium) and those venues all hold only about 60% of what Download does. So Download could perhaps be unwilling to pay the same level of fee that they may pay for some of the headliners they have booked in the past.
I agree that I don't think PJ would be a great fit for Download these days. They would have been a great fit during the first 10 years or so Download was running but both the bend and the festival have gradually moved in opposite directions more recently. However, it also wouldn't be the first time that Download would have booked a headliner who doesn't quite fit with the tone of the festival.
Was down the front for both Hyde park nights so don't know how well it sold but I would say the weekend was a success none the less.
It was definitely a great vibe.
I'd be happy with 2 nights at o2 and then hopefully 2 nights at waldbuhne or even Amsterdam.

There were still plenty of tickets left in every category and even in the golden circle area there was plenty of space once you got a few rows back from the barrier. This was our view on night 2 and we had plenty of space to dance around and could get in and out of the crowd to the bar/toilets no problem. I suspect it may have sold out had they only been playing the one night but that really brings us back round to ticket prices. With Tottenham being roughly double the cost of Hyde Park it was always going to be tougher to shift tickets. Particularly given that the Hyde Park summer concert series has always attracted a more casual crowd who just want to go and watch some music in the park regardless of the act (particularly as this was the first summer that concerts like that were possible after Covid) and with the event sponsors offering discounted tickets to their customers too. We certainly encountered a lot of people at both days in Hyde Park who were barely aware who Pearl Jam were. Hyde Park is just an easier event to shift tickets for.seanclax said:

I agree that 2x O2 shows is probably the most likely scenario for a return to London. But I do worry that with a maximum of 40k tickets available over 2 nights it could be a difficult task to provide a fair balance of ensuring that fans who had tickets for the Tottenham show get a chance to rebook with providing a fair balance with general sale and 10C. The band could just not bother prioritising those who had tickets for this years cancelled show but I think that doing so would leave a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of fans and may harm future ticket sales.2012 - Manchester (UK) 12 Jun - Manchester (UK) 13 Jun

Should be easy enough to get tickets through 10c though.0 -
Personally I think that not giving this years ticket holders a priority to rebook for a make-up show would be a big mistake that would piss off a lot of people who had tickets this year. Especially given PJ they did allow those who had tickets for the 2021 cancelled Hyde Park shows guaranteed re-booking for the re-scheduled 2022 shows and plenty of other bands have done the same when they have been forced to cancel shows only to return at a later date.seanclax said:

Is the band really going to go back to Europe for a only few makeup shows? With how much has been made about the cost of touring, particularly internationally, I'd be surprised if the band flew across the pond for just a few shows and it seems too soon for a full European tour given they were there this year. Have they ever toured Europe in back to back years?0

London and Berlin are the only cities that have been mentioned so far.
Personally I don't see them doing a 2 city tour but I think any extra dates are likely to be festivals and maybe Amsterdam.
Possibly Barcelona to as those shows were so great but who knows0 -
They've shown recently with the baltimore show that when a date is cancelled, then rescheduled the tickets just get sold as normal.tomccfc87 said:
Personally I think that not giving this years ticket holders a priority to rebook for a make-up show would be a big mistake that would piss off a lot of people who had tickets this year. Especially given PJ they did allow those who had tickets for the 2021 cancelled Hyde Park shows guaranteed re-booking for the re-scheduled 2022 shows and plenty of other bands have done the same when they have been forced to cancel shows only to return at a later date.seanclax said:

The band could just not bother prioritising those who had tickets for this years cancelled show but I think that doing so would leave a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of fans and may harm future ticket sales.
As for tickets next year, Tottenham was cancelled so if they play London there won't be any consideration for this years ticket holders.
Should be easy enough to get tickets through 10c though.
Can't see it being any different for London and Berlin if we get shows next year.

The thing that I want the most in 2025 is some 10C only shows. I think we would get all the gems and deep 90s cuts we love (Brain of J, Hummus!). The Red Rocks Amphitheater would be a spectacular venue for this.I'm spinning, oh-oh-oh I'm spinning0

Different situation, the Baltimore show was not cancelled by the band, it was cancelled by the venue. The London and Berlin shows were cancelled by the band.seanclax said:

Cancelled is cancelled and the only show they had wording saying they would look to help fans with tickets out for the new show was Baltimore and look at where that ended up.tomccfc87 said:
