you know its interesting. My sophmore yr in HS my school district added soccer as a varsity sport. boys only. We did have a female player on our team . the core of the team had come up together in a ymca league so we were solid but that was so with the boys who hadnt played with the core team yet.. it took a few to absorb her and adjust to her play , but we did it. and there was no grumbling or pushback that I can recall from the rest of the team.
Girls and boys play mixed here at a very young age. Not at puberty age. For good reason

that yr we were 15-16 yr olds....
This would be an anomaly. Our schools on Long Island had different gender sports.  The one all female sport we had was badminton.  All boys was wrestling and football.

I dont know but I dont think our district believed each school could field both boys and girls teams districtwide.

our school, the science teacher stepped  up to coach. he was no where near athletic,  may have been as a youth bit I didnt have that impression. he checked out a bunch of books on soccer and learned from that. we had some fill in assisting coaching. when he had time teammates  older brother who was playing or had played for ohio state helped out.

Thats cool they did that.  We pay A LOT in taxes here so we have many sports and the coaches all get paid for it which are usually teachers.

Long Island lawmakers passed a bill on trans kids joining girls sports.

I played water polo in high school. It was co-ed because the schools couldn’t never fill 2 teams. You’d typically have girls defend girls, and boys on boys. Wouldn’t always work out that way, but the risk of injury from taking a ball to the face is a lot lower than soccer where you use your whole body force to kick it.

It’s not handing anything to anyone. Is this something handled better by the sports governing agencies or your state’s governor?

How is one w long hair allowed to wrestle?  We had to have our hair short and nails trimmed. Coach would have made me do laps for taking off my head gear too.

Depending on the sport, shouldn't they, though. The point of the original post here was not competition but safety. If it's that much of a safety concern, then to protect this girl, she should have been told "no." She's not just playing against one genetic male but dozens.

There’s a big difference between a biological male playing down to a girls league vs a female choosing to pay up in a boys league. Especially when there are no female options for that sport. It’s still her choice to play against males.
