    I was in AC for a work thing the last few days and it was surreal when the news came out. I saw it on my phone first and showed a few people near me and quickly realized I was not amongst like minded folk! It was pretty eye opening how unaware the majority of them even were that this was happening. One guy was gutted. One guy was shocked. One guy kept trying to tell me these are just misdemeanors and not a big deal....I enjoyed informing him that he was wrong and that Trump was now a convicted felon. 

    For the vast majority of voters, this will not sway their votes. But I do think this will swing some of the more reasonable people in the middle back to Biden again.

    I want to believe the convictions will sway the middle, but I'm so jaded from the 2016 election that I can't convince myself that will be a factor.  I mean there was plenty of shit on Trump before the 2016 election to push away the fence sitters.
    I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on.

    They absolutely will. There's always been plenty of shit. There's never been 34 convictions. Relatively reasonable in the middle are not going to want to vote for a convicted felon, despite what the maga dopes say. A lot of polling has shown that actual convictions will sway people. Had this gone the other way yesterday, and with it likely being the only trial to happen before the election....that would've been a colossal blow to Biden, and democracy in general. Best case scenario finally happened here.

    I had the impression from my brother in law, who lives here in Green Bay, that this is hardline R. But looking online it seems that isn’t the case. Could just be his colleagues and neighbours. He’s not a hard D, but he was telling me yesterday that he was shocked how much of a political statement it seemed to be to own a Tesla and be into “green tech”. His neighbors scoffed at his reasoning for not having a sprinkler system in his yard (water waste, not cost). 

    Either way, I fully expect some conversation at the wedding tonight to get spirited with at least a few drunken R’s.

    ligic would prevail here, but I could easily see how even moderates might downplay the seriousness of the convictions. People just ASSUME out of the gate that all billionaires are corrupt in some way. They likely aren’t going to give a shit about misreporting some financials. They WILL get concerned if it’s possible he might see jail time. Just like with Hillary. It wasn’t the crime for normal people, it was the potential affect it has on the office.

    The convictions won't impact MAGA. The devotion they have to him means they were all voting for him before and they're all voting for him now.

    They probably won't impact Nikki Haley fans; they're still getting 24/7 messages about the evil left. They were always going to vote for Trump and they still are.

    They won't impact the hard left. Some will still hold their noses and vote for Joe. Some will continue to refuse to vote for Biden, as they don't seem to connect Biden losing with Trump winning. I tend to think this doesn't sway too many people in this camp.

    They won't impact many Democrats, who were voting for Biden either way.

    That leaves the undecided and moderate types that kinda swing every election, anyway. There are several possibilities and one or some may happen:
    • No impact.
    • They buy into the unavoidable message that it's politically motivated and they vote for Trump.
    • They choose Biden because of the convictions. This could include the motivation to vote for Biden as opposed to voting 3rd or not voting at all.
    • It's just another annoying thing in the never-ending Sport of Politics and it keeps them home when they may well have voted for (Trump? Biden?).
    I tend to think the impact is going to be minimal. I think we're too jaded, too exhausted, and too inundated with bad "information" to even process the way we would have if this had happened a generation ago. It's just another juggling act in the circus.

    I know the Moving Train is a terrible example since it's probably those who are not particularly political that I'm talking about here but does this give anyone any thought of change? Maybe someone that was going to vote for RFK Jr? Or not vote?

    I live in one of the states that will decide 2024 (Wisconsin).  Sad to know the RNC will be desecrating downtown Milwaukee soon.

    Let's face it, if a guy says he could go out on the street and shot and kill people at random and his followers would still vote for him and that statement be correct, you can bet your bottom dollar Trump fanatics are not going to change their mind about who to vote based on these convictions.  They say those on the fence might change their mind but... seriously?...are there really still people on the fence about Trump?

    So, OK, we have had good reason to cheer and be thankful for these convictions, and I don't mean to be a downer here, but I would suggest not letting one's guard down.  There are still millions upon million of people in this country that will vote for the man no matter what.  That is what is concerning here.  That is the indication that something has seriously gone wrong with the thinking of a very large number of people in this country.  That is what we need to somehow work on turning around.
