I'm not ready to throw in the towel on the moderate GOP quite yet.

Here's a timely article about Mitch that was just published. Gift article.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene detonates her plan to oust Speaker Johnson

But Democrats have promised to ride to the House speaker’s rescue, at least for now.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Wednesday morning triggered her motion to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) as the top leader of the House, announcing she wants an imminent floor vote on the speaker’s future.

Her chances of success, however, are in doubt because House Democratic leadership has pledged to rescue Johnson from the congresswoman’s “motion to vacate” by attempting to kill the measure before it can gain any traction. Nonetheless, Republicans hold only a two-vote House majority and anything could happen in the volatile chamber where support from GOP hard-liners is always in question.

Standing alongside Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who also supports removing Johnson, Greene announced during a morning news conference that she is formally bringing up her motion next week. She intends to act under special rules forcing the House to vote on the motion within two full legislative days. The House is set to adjourn Wednesday evening and it’s unclear when Republican leadership will bring up the vote.

Seriously, dems in office are so naive.  Little Lord Farquaad (looks just like Johnson) just met with the number one POS and the dems are gonna save him.  Fool me once…

He didn't.  Johnson cut a deal with democrats and moderate Republicans.  More Republicans voted against it than for it.  The deal was that the Ds would not let Johnson go down on the motion to vacate if he moved the bills.  That's a good deal.

yeah i would take my chances with someone we know is bad like johnson than someone else who could be much worse, like, say, mtg.

i can live with johnson until the dems retake the house in november.

Johnson has at least shown the ability to put the job before the party and work to get certain things done. It's a low bar, but it's better than what MTG and Gaetz and the like want.

Yes I agree.  He wouldn't move it until he knew he was safe.

I mean, it's better than McCarthy though.  But I would not quite call it principled, only "better than the rest".

It never ceases to amaze me how much a half brain dead representative from a small rural district can be such a huge distraction from doing the serious business of legislation in one of the most powerful nations on the planet.  To me, that we continue to put up with her crap, that just makes us look like weak as hell.

That is her game, 100%.  That and her desperate need for attention and a sick desire to stir shit rather than actually so something.
And even more strange is that she keeps getting away with it.  We, our country today, allows, even creates that kind of sick behavior.  I don't like to think about where that is leading us.

It floors me that people think she's patriotic and "fighting for us." She's an elected AM radio pundit.

The domestic "politics as sport" is what drives the most prominent figures on the right. And anyone who dares actually put America first* is shamed out of their movement.

*I think that's why they say "America First" so often. They're trying a bit too hard to convince people.

They say it so often because people are dumb and will believe even the most blatant of lies if it's repeated to them enough.

How many people voted for a NYC billionaire (millionaire?) with a gold toilet and history of f'ing over middle and lower class Americans to be president because they're sick of "coastal elites"?

Idiocracy wasn't fiction, it was foreshadowing.

I’m looking forward to the cage match in the committee hearing room. The video is even better. Georgia must be so very proud, so very proud.

Johnson says personal attacks at committee meeting ‘not a good look’

A House Oversight Committee meeting devolved into a partisan shouting match between members, filled with personal attacks about intelligence and appearance.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) chided lawmakers Friday for a meeting the night before that devolved into a partisan shouting match between committee members and included personal attacks about intelligence and appearance.

Johnson told reporters that the incident was “not a good look for Congress” and that members need to treat one another with “dignity and respect” despite their political differences.

The House Oversight Committee meeting on Thursday that was supposed to be focused on a resolution over whether to recommend holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.

Tensions escalated when Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Tex.) questioned why Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was airing assertions about the political motivations of a judge overseeing a criminal case involving former president Donald Trump.

“Do you know what we’re here for? You know we’re here about AG Garland?” Crockett said during the rare evening session for the committee.

I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene responded. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”

That’s when things began to boil over, as Greene — a political flamethrower already on the outs with some in her party over her recently failed attempt to oust Johnson from leadership — and Democrats continued to fight.

In his remarks to reporters, Johnson didn’t go out of his way to defend Greene.

“We need people on both sides of the aisle to just, I think, just take the emotion out of it,” Johnson said. “We can have vigorous debate. That’s what this institution is built upon. But we have to treat one another with dignity and respect.”

Asked if he was disappointed at the behavior of some of his members, Johnson answered: “We’re going to maintain decorum.”

At Thursday evening’s committee meeting after Greene’s eyelashes comment, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) asked to strike Greene’s words from the record and make her apologize to Crockett, saying: “How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person.”

Are your feelings hurt?” Greene responded in a mocking tone, later asking Ocasio-Cortez: “Why don’t you debate me?” The New York congresswoman responded: “It’s pretty self-evident.”

“You don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene told Ocasio-Cortez.

Although Greene agreed to have her words stricken from the record, she added: “You will never have an apology out of me.”

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) then ruled that the comments did not violate House rules against engaging in “personalities” during debate.

Crockett, disputing Comer’s ruling, asked: “I’m just curious — just to better understand your ruling — if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

The meeting room erupted once again, with a Republican member of the committee telling Crockett to “calm down.”

The incident at the committee meeting, which led to a 24-20 vote along party lines to recommend holding Garland in contempt, was denounced by some members and egged on by others.

Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), who sits next to Ocasio-Cortez in the committee, wrote on X: “Disagreement is part of democracy, but the hearing descended into outright name-calling and insults about Congressmembers’ appearances. No American deserves this chaos in Congress.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), observing the chaos, wrote on X: “Looks like they’re having a totally normal one over in Oversight...”

Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison embraced Crockett’s response to Greene, sharing a GIF of someone taking out trash.

“[Crockett] is the queen of the oversight committee clapbacks… I know her arms are exhausted from the daily draggings,” he wrote on X.
