Pearl Jam Crazed - This Band is a Gift

Yesterday, my husband and kids returned home from work and school. I’m off work for 6 weeks recovering from a surgery. Here’s the convo:

Husband and kids: What did you do today, mama?
Me: Well, I ranked every Pearl Jam song from 0-3 on a spreadsheet which gave me totals for each album. This gave me actual point values to rank the albums as my favorites. Then, I listened to the records in that order. 🙃

Thank you to Dark Matter for throwing me back into a Pearl Jam obsessed stage that seems to come around every so many years. I always love them, but I am IN IT with them right now.

Can’t stop listening. Can’t stop watching. Thank god I’m off work or I may not be able to keep a job, ha.

I’ve loved this band since I was 12. I’m now 37. 

I’ve seen them around 20 times. My first show was in 2000, and they opened with Evenflow. I’ve since been up front and held Eddie up by his black corduroy pants while he sang Porch in my face. I went to Mexico City while pregnant and heard the It’s Okay tag in Spanish, Esta Bien. I was in GA at Wrigley and cried like a baby when they played Release as my dad passed away in 2014. Pearl Jam got me through that, of course. I also peed my pants at Wrigley because they played SOLAT, and I lose it just as 12 year old me would because that is my favorite song of all. I just can’t quite hold my pee like I used to, LOL. I saw them dress up as Devo on Halloween. I went to Indi, the show got canceled, and still had the best time at Sleepybear Camground because it turned into a giant celebration of Pearl Jam with fans just like me. I could go on and on. 

There’s no point to this post other than this band has been a fucking GIFT in my life. They are the constant. I am thankful to share this same space and time in the universe with this band. 

Icing on the cake? My 7 year old daughter’s name is Stevie, and she now has her own song. It’s like the Pearl Jam gods winked at me.
