Right?! I think some are turned off by the first 20 seconds, but it picks up.
Now that I've sat with the album after a few spins, I agree that Got To Give does rock. I love the whole track, and it's placement is refreshing with a nice uplifting boost before the beautiful Setting Sun closes it out. Then on repeat, even Setting Sun flows so nicely in to Scared of Fear. I'm just spinning Dark Matter all day on repeat, no skips and it feels great.

For now "React, Respond" REALLY loud.  Can't wait to see what they do with that one live.

I like the ending to React Respond and parts here and there but it overall give me vibes of My Father's Son which I don't like.

    Scared of Fear
I went with Scared of Fear, but could have easily voted for Wreckage, Stevie, or Setting Sun. Really, just about every song except one has something special that I love. Very good album.

I hate to say it, but this is the first time in 32 years a PJ album has thoroughly disappointed me. The first album where I never once felt that euphoric thrill that every other album has at least somewhere. Nothing came remotely close to the likes of a RVM, Present Tense, Corduroy — or even an Unthought Known or Quick Escape. And that's to say nothing of the weakest set of lyrics of Ed's whole career. Riddled with cringy cliches and very little depth. You can really tell he wrote them on the fly on the studio.
After 2 cinema listens, Waiting for Stevie is the standout track, but even that doesn't measure up to what I'd expect from PJ. On the whole, the album left me flat — and even kinda bored. Never thought of say any of this about a PJ album.
Hoping i get a different perspective when i hear it properly on headphones. But for now, really disappointed. Sorry.
Wonder what you think after you’ve heard it in its entirety outside of the crappy movie theater experience I’m assuming you had (as I did). The sound was so terrible in the theater.  Hearing it today in better speakers it has completely blown me away.  It’s like the first time I’m hearing the songs now.

Long time fan.  Whole album was hard to listen to. Need to give it multiple listens.  Album sounds too ‘electronic’ to me. Not sure what the hype of Waiting For Stevie is about.  I had high expectations after everyone’s reviews on that one.  At first few listens I have Upper Hand as the best. Scared of Fear, Wreckage, Won’t Tell and Something Special I need to go back to.  In my opinion Dark Matter, Running and React, Respond are too produced and weak.

    Setting Sun
So many great songs. Hard to choose my favourite. Least favourite is wreckage but it's still a good song. Way better than Gigaton. Album doesn't fizzle out. Setting sun would make a great opener.

Great verse, way too soft Sirens chorus. The same goes for Wont tell.
I do get a Sirens vibe on Won't Tell. Very LB sounding, but better.
    It's a hopeless situation...

With 2 full listens so far.. Waiting For Stevie is #1 for me.. and Something Special would be my least fav..just seems out of place on this one.

Won't Tell and Got To Give are definitely getting a lot more of a minimal response than I expected

Got to Give is growing on me faster than any of the other songs, even though it wasn't the one that made the biggest initial impact. It's definitely top three on the album for me -- today, anyway. :-)
