Personally I wish Ed would save this kind of thing for his solo or side projects. The fact that there are slots set aside for this kind of song are disappointing because they rarely land in the top tier of Pearl Jam songs. A true exploration of something more country and gritty ( I am thinking Chris Stapleton) would be welcomed.

Is it a cover of “man I feel
    like a woman” ?

It sounds like a leftover or unfinished song from earthling, it's only a clip but a clip of can't deny me, get it back, ole, or of the earth destroys this song, just my opinion,...

Hey i liked it. Not everything has to be super rock. Some melow music with what it seems a cool guitar solo is good too.

Also if this is the song about his daughters i qould expect a very calm song.

I don't know. If this were the rule, there probably would have been no "Off He Goes" on No Code. And possibly no "Comes Then Goes" on Gigaton. (I still don't know anyone else in the band plays on that song. In general, if only one band member plays on a song, it probably doesn't belong on a Pearl Jam album. But that's a great song whether it's just Ed or Ed plus Mike or Stone.)

Then you have the case of "Sleeping By Myself," which is a song I really enjoy but would rather it had been left off Lightning Bolt since it was a song we already had as an Ed solo song. The full-band version would have been a good Pearl Jam B-side.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

I thought the same, solo sounds good. Looking
    forward to hearing the rest

Put in the record that I still get excited for little snippets of new Pearl Jam songs and I won't really know how I feel about them until I've marinated in the album for a couple months

LB has a bunch of good songs but it’s not a great album, it feels like a mishmash of random sessions.
BS has fewer great standalone songs but it’s a better album because it has its own cohesive identity which is unique in the catalog.
Gigaton is ambitious & experimental but they didn’t stick the landings on all the experiments. It’s also (for me at least) colored more by the events of the time of its release than the others which makes it hard to give a fair rating to.
i think all three are still good, but the preceding 8 were all great.
That recording/mixing/mastering of Eddies voice on Backspacer is atrocious though. That ”let it sound like the  singer has a severe cold but is also assaulting the listeners eardrums with its harshness” ideal was a choice. And at the same time sounding muffled and echoy like they tried to save a take where Eddie sang off-mike.  A by-product of the doubletracking I guess.

Haven’t listened to it for a long while. But that is what I remember. It sounding very off-putting and harsh.

Where is the closeness and warmth from Riot act…

I like this take. I typically think of BS as a worse album than LB because there are fewer songs I like. But I do agree that BS has a more consistent feel to it than LB.

I'll also withhold judgement until I hear more of it, but I will say that it being the second clip released surprises me, given all the talk of how "heavy" this album is going to be. Maybe this is just the intro or a slow part of the song...

Doesn't feel like a good match with a March Madness highlight reel. And just from the standpoint of building hype for the album this isn't what I'd expect.

This song does fit well with EV's new look though.  Folk music and fedoras go like PB&J.

Strange little snippet to release at this point.  Not exactly the "heaviness" we are expecting, and not the best song for that little basketball promo thing.  That being said it's kinda or par with the type of tracks we get in that 3rd-or-4th -to-last slot of an album (i.e. Comes then Goes, Speed of Sound, Sleeping by Myself, etc)

That does not sound like Pearl Jam. I like Pearl Jam....
    Stone from the Spin interview.

'Something Special' was recorded in that first session at Andrew's house and those are Josh's initial chords. We moved things around a little bit, but the song really came from him. I love that it's a song about parenting and kids, but l also love that Josh Klinghoffer joins the band live on tour and also writes a song for the album. I just think that's fuckin' cool.

I’ve never really enjoyed anything I’ve listened to by Josh Klinghoffer or however you spell it so this might not be my favorite track if he was heavily involved in writing it.
