I’m hoping Europe gets weird like Edinburgh, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Zagreb, non-Berlin German date, Bilbao/San Sebastian, Lisbon
Well, we know for certain that Hipodrom Zagreb is booked on July 2024! Local music press have their money on the Rolling Stones… but who knows!

It’s a huge place and only handful of bands played there in the last 30 years: Bowie, Stones, Metallica, RHCP… I think that the last concert there was RHCP in 2012 (35000 people).

Pearl Jam played in Zagreb in 2006 (8000 people).

Could have Foo fighters, Pearl jam and smashing pumpkins in the space of two weeks in Dublin in June which would be great

Exactly. Wembley is terrible. I actually don’t think the O2 is that bad. The sound is better than the majority of arenas

I saw The Frames there in May, it’s a nice enough venue

Pain in the ass to get to if you live outside of London.
Exceptionally poor public transport after the show (huge queues for the underground station in particular).
Poor sound (though better than Wembley Arena for sure), particularly if you're in the back half of the arena.

Basically it's a bun fight and a stress unless you have a hotel in walking distance, and even then the sound quality is pretty crappy in the main. The whole place was lambasted when it was first being used as a music venue but these days folks just grin and bear it cos of the lack of decent alternatives.

This is all true from my experience. I do like the sound but I've only ever been first few rows g.a

Is it a fundamental problem with the acoustics of the venue? Or can good sound engineers get something good out of it? After all these years and all the experience with the venue. After all, this is not an unknown, insignificant venue.
  • The one and only time I was at the O2 in London, the post show transit hack was to grab a double decker bus and take that to another station.

O2 is the same as Ziggo Dome, if you're over 6 feet tall you're OK!

Anywhere is better than Wembley Arena though.
    Brixton Academy 14/7/93, Wembley Arena 29/5/00, Wembley Arena 18/6/07, London O2 18/8/09, Hyde Park 25/6/10, Manchester 20/6/12, Arras 30/6/12, Werchter 5/7/14, Leeds 8/7/14, Milton Keynes 11/7/14, Mexico City 28/11/15, Toronto 10/5/16, Toronto 12/5/16,  Amsterdam 12/6/18, Amsterdam 13/6/18, London O2 18/6/18, Werchter 7/7/18, London O2 17/7/18, Werchter 30/6/22, Hyde Park 8/7/22, Hyde Park 9/7/22, Budapest 12/7/22, Prague 22/7/22, Amsterdam 24/7/22, Amsterdam 25/7/22, Dublin 22/6/24, Manchester 25/6/24, London 29/6/2024, Berlin 2/7/24, Berlin 3/7/24
  • Earls Court sound was also super dodgy but at least it was easy access.
  • Roundhouse is the dream venue but sadly way too small for PJ.

I am under 6 feet tall. Went to Ziggo Dome 2022 and it was great.

You never know. Radiohead played a few shows there in 2016.

A good sound engineer who takes the time can get very good to excellent sound in either Wembley or The o2.
Saw Porcupine Tree at Wembley Arena last year and they had the best sound of any arena show I saw that year. Granted, they did apparently spend a long time working on it, but for the price of tickets, that should be the norm for all... not the usual half an hour, we can hear a noise from the instrument, next... approach a lot take.
The o2 has good sound for an arena of its shape and size, can quite often get an echo off the back of it though. Thought PJ sound was good for the 2009 and 2018 shows.
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits
