Yep, 93 was beastly.  Far fewer songs, obviously, buy what they brought....they destroyed

nice, Gimli is a classic.. which I could of caught them on that tour :)
  • Classic show!

To my Canadian friends (or anyone who might know) - the 1993 shows in Canada seem to list very small venues (Calgary, Edmonton, ect..) Does anyone know if these were warm up shows? Non ticketmaster venues only? I know the joke is that Canada discovers popular bands years later, but 1993 was peak pearl jam fandom no?

Wasn't the Atlanta '94 show in a theatre, I don't think it was a strictly Canadian thing?  Even though they were big, a large portion of the fan base was still pretty young too (meaning, it's much harder to get to shows than when your not an autonomous adult with disposable income).   I think the venue's sound about right.   They were opening for Neil Young for bigger venues, and playing smaller venues on their own.

Reminds me of when I saw Nirvana.  Arguably they were as big or bigger than PJ, but at the beginning of '94 I saw them play an old jr hockey arena in Vancouver that holds maybe 3000 to 5000 people.    Presumably they never got a chance to do NHL/NBA sized venues consistently back then either.   Not sure how much the youth factor plays.   We went because my friend talked his Dad into taking us, but the Dad didn't' come in, he waited outside the venue.. lol.  My parents would never of done that. It got so much easier to travel to shows when I finished high school, got a drivers licensed and had income.

Man so jealous you saw Nirvana in Vancouver! Yeah good points about the fan base - and that's def why I couldn't make it to the earlier tours. Can you imagine seeing 1993 era pearl jam in those small venues?? Interesting fact that I just found out about the Beatles (did some research after watching the documentary for the second time) their last tour ever was underwhelming ticket sales wise, and their last ever show in San Francisco had 7000 tickets unsold!

Yeah, for sure. I was going to comment yesterday that it seemed his hair was always frazzled and in his face and he looked crabby as he'll. It is really amazing how different he looked from '92.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Yep.  My first PJ show was the first of three Mercer arena shows in December of 93.  Eddie was SO intense/pissed the whole show.  I remember just having adrenalin running through me the entire show because of the bands energy.
