boebert is an absolute ghoul, but does anyone else find it incredibly creepy that they were essentially being watched by big brother from the time they were leaving the theatre for about another several blocks walking?
Everywhere you go like this, there are cameras.  You have to know that when you go to a pJ show, sporting event, etc. every inch is covered.

I know, but why was it all released to the public?

Sanity bleeding out of the senate. Don’t know who is on the repub bench in Utah but I’ll fathom it’s far right and more freedom caucus than Mittens. Sounds a little delusional on his assessment of the Brandon Crime Wave’s ability to lead. Where you been Mittens?

Mitt Romney says he will not seek a second term in the Senate

I'm currently living in Utah; we move a lot, so I can't claim to have a deep knowledge of local politics. Rumor is there was concern that Romney would be primaried if he ran for re-election, which is kind of bonkers to contemplate. It's pretty much a given that whoever replaces him will be far more MAGA. So this is not good for Utah and it's not good for the country.

The sad part is that in 2016 the orange menace was pretty unpopular in Utah: he was anathema to both LDS and Democrats. Like the proverbial boiled frog, some people seem to have become more willing to compromise their principles over the past few years.

This is one of the tragedies of the party. Sure the voters vote in the general election, but it's only the hard-core that participate in primaries and caucuses. MAGA will always decide who gets the GOP nomination, which in a place like Utah is essentially the general.

As for Trump, my understanding is that his philandering ways got in the way of his image in Utah but that the state's GOP is as committed to MAGA and all that it has to offer as any other state's GOP.

Well our other senator is prominent seditionist Mike Lee, so there's that. I think the party, like the rest of the GOP, is committed to holding power, and they'll do whatever it takes to do that. Hence the gerrymandering.

McKay Coppins' biography of Romney should be interesting. Coppins is a great writer. The excerpts coming out yesterday and today, along with Romney's comments yesterday, acknowledge pretty explicitly that GOP leadership and most GOP members of Congress think that the orange menace is a clown. But the Republicans by and large are cowards, afraid of their voters and afraid of losing their power, so they enable the clown.

And as Charlie Sykes says, a clown with a flamethrower still is holding a flamethrower, so the potential for harm to all of us is great. And since MAGA is a cult, having word get out that "RINO Romney" and the other "cucks" in Congress laugh at their guy just makes the MAGA base dig in more against everyone who is not a true believer.

    This timeline kind of sucks.

Not sure.  The version I saw was watermarked with a news station all over it. So presumably the theater released it to them.  I think that's fine, they are in public.  There's a material public interest for a Colorado resident.

Maybe I’m being naive, but isn’t the footage from private entities rather than the government? Government CCTV is common, say in the UK, but it’s not often you see it in the US.

it must have been several different businesses that released it though. it seemed to follow them for several minutes.

Good point. She is loathsome, but there's not a law against being a jackass in public, so why do we all need to see the surveillance footage?

I know you weren’t bitching about it.

The sad truth is that you can’t walk out the front door of your house or employer without being on camera somewhere in your travels until you get home unless you’re self employed or retired and never leave your house or live in the sticks. The surveillance state is here to stay and while the US government doesn’t own or operate these cameras, they can fairly easily get access with a warrant or subpoena, or upon compliance via a request. And I don’t think there is any regulation against a private entity releasing, posting or making public any footage their camera picks up. I have resigned to accept that that’s how it is these days and it’s not going back.

Did we need to “see” Lorena Bobbitt being escorted out of the movie theatre? No. But if she were asked by the press or a constituent whether she did those things and was asked to leave and denied it? Then there’s reason or justification to release it. Elected members of congress should conduct themselves appropriately and when confronted, not lie about the obvious. But here we are (not saying she lied, just in general). Moving boxes comes to mind.

well, it was intended for local audiences I believe but anymore local=global.  it indicates to me that she isnt all that well regarded in her home state. yes, she was re-elected this past cycle but by a very slim margin in a redrawn district that was to have made that much easier for the gop candidate than she ultimately showed.

I also take a small amount of pleasure in exposing or sharing the hypocrisy and foibles of that power hungry party at every turn.

she in particular is an egregious level of ignorant for the position she holds.
