Sanity bleeding out of the senate. Don’t know who is on the repub bench in Utah but I’ll fathom it’s far right and more freedom caucus than Mittens. Sounds a little delusional on his assessment of the Brandon Crime Wave’s ability to lead. Where you been Mittens?
Mitt Romney says he will not seek a second term in the Senate
In a Post interview, Romney is critical of both Trump and Biden, and says most Republicans are drawn to a ‘populist demagogue message.’ His decision not to seek reelection is likely to be the end of the 2012 GOP presidential nominee’s political career.
Sen. Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 and the only member of his party to twice vote to convict former president Donald Trump in politically charged impeachment trials, announced Wednesday that he will not seek a second term in the Senate representing Utah, saying in an interview that it is time for a new generation to “step up” and “shape the world they’re going to live in.”Romney, 76, said his decision not to run again was heavily influenced by his belief that a second term, which would take him into his 80s, probably would be less productive and less satisfying than the current term has been. He blamed that both on the disarray he sees among House Republicans and on his own lack of confidence in the leadership of President Biden and Trump.
“It’s very difficult for the House to operate, from what I can tell,” he said in a lengthy telephone interview previewing his formal announcement, “and two, and perhaps more importantly, we’re probably going to have either Trump or Biden as our next president. And Biden is unable to lead on important matters and Trump is unwilling to lead on important matters.”

I'm currently living in Utah; we move a lot, so I can't claim to have a deep knowledge of local politics. Rumor is there was concern that Romney would be primaried if he ran for re-election, which is kind of bonkers to contemplate. It's pretty much a given that whoever replaces him will be far more MAGA. So this is not good for Utah and it's not good for the country. The sad part is that in 2016 the orange menace was pretty unpopular in Utah: he was anathema to both LDS and Democrats. Like the proverbial boiled frog, some people seem to have become more willing to compromise their principles over the past few years.Side note on gerrymandering in Utah (which is not relevant to a Senate race): SLC and Park City actually are light blue areas, unlike the deep-red rest of the state. But the Democratic vote has been neutralized via gerrymandering: there are four congressional districts in Utah, and all of them include portions of SLC. My best option to have a say in elections is to register as a Republican and vote for the least-crazy candidate in the primary. All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.0 -

As for Trump, my understanding is that his philandering ways got in the way of his image in Utah but that the state's GOP is as committed to MAGA and all that it has to offer as any other state's GOP.1995 Milwaukee 1998 Alpine, Alpine 2003 Albany, Boston, Boston, Boston 2004 Boston, Boston 2006 Hartford, St. Paul (Petty), St. Paul (Petty) 2011 Alpine, Alpine
